: Shaw DCT6412 Information / Questions / Problems
jb_yvr 2005-09-20, 12:30 PM However, there is one recording that will just not delete. In the subwindow for this recording, I highlight "X", then press "select", but nothing happens. It simply will not delete. Any comments/suggestions?
I noticed there is another option called delete priority or something on that same menu - have you tried that? I have no idea what that one does though.
Napial 2005-09-20, 06:42 PM Thanks jb yvr. I had tried changing the delete priority options but it did not help . . . it still did not delete.
garysm99 2005-09-24, 01:05 PM Is it possible to connect my Lap Top to 6412 and record from the hard drive on the 6412? Whic port is active on the 6412 and what software do I need on my Lap Top.
azza2005 2005-09-27, 06:38 PM Hi All,
I bought a comcast 6412/2005 up from the US and was told it could work with SHAW's service. (b4 you start telling me I stole it because Comcast dont sell them get your facts right.. comcast do sell them, their unreturned equipment charge for a 6412 is around US$500, significantly cheaper than shaw's price, thats why I didn't return it).
Anyway, has anyone out there successfully activated a 6412/2005??
thx

Azza, I'm in the process of working with SHAW to activate my 6412/2005. Thus far, not much success. They keep on instisting to me that the 2005 will not work and therefore won't even enter my box into their system. For the last couple of days I've been waiting to hear from a "supervisor". I'm going to try calling again tomorrow morning. I'll let you know if I have any luck.

Thanks Khledar.... look forward to hearing from you....
squintyboy 2005-10-02, 07:01 PM Here is a link to 3 pages of posts regarding how to get a comcast 6412/2005 working on Shaw's system. Posting number 16 details the procedure for resetting your box so that Shaw's firmware upload will stick and make it operational on their system. However, there are also warnings in these posts about following the procedure exactly or you may end up with a doorstop.

dub mon 2005-10-03, 04:23 PM Hey Guys,
How do I get the 6412 to display the "time of day" on the front of the PVR box. Currently it displays the channel number but I want it to display the time of day just like my VCR use to do. Is there any way to do this?
thx in advance.

Press menu twice, setup, cable box setup, change the first option to current time.
I had an good idea for my new PVR and it worked as planned.
I'm a big Hab's fan and RDS plays all there game in french of course.
So had Shaw add RDS to my channels. Connected to the English radio feed over the internet. Pushed pause until the Radio feed caught up to the play and then hit play. It was perfect. I had english play by play for my French broadcast. :D

Heck, if your pc and tv are in different room you could use an FM modulator on the pc audio out to listen to the game via your FM Tuner.

dkehler 2005-10-07, 10:25 PM I'm having a problem where certain recordings (not all) do not show up at the correct length, and once the program reaches the "end", for example the 17 minute mark of a one-hour program, I lose the ability to fast-forward, rewind or pause. Doing so takes me back to the "end".
The program can be watched in its entirety, but it would be nice to be able to skip the commercials. I've had the box switched out, but the previous one did the same thing.
I've tried programming the thirty second skip into my remote, but it has no effect on the affected recordings.
Am I out of luck until they release a new firmware?
pdubois 2005-10-16, 06:34 PM I have a weird problem and I am wondering if anyone else has been experiencing this. When I use the component output of the DCT6412, I have no problem. When I use the DVI output, the TV seems to lose the signal 2 or 3 times over a 6 hour period. It works fine otherwise. The screen suddenly blanks out for about 1 second and then the signal resumes normally. There is no glitch on the hard drive when I play back the segment where it happened, so it's not a Shaw cable glitch.
I have a DCT6412 and a Samsung L-T-P266W HDTV. I am not sure whether the problem comes from the DCT6412 or the Samsung TV as I don’t have any other equipment with a DVI output that I can feed to the TV to test.
The work around is simple, I don’t use the DVI. I don’t see much quality difference between the 2 modes anyway. But I would like to find out if there is a problem that needs to be fixed under warranty either with the DCT6412 or with the TV. If anyone else has had the same problem, or if it is a known problem, I would appreciate to know about it. Thanks!
Snakebyte 2005-10-16, 10:15 PM dkehler, I've experienced the same problem. Haven't been able to troubleshoot it yet or pin it down to a specific set of circumstances for it to occur. At the moment, I am testing keeping the 6412 powered on all of the time as I have a feeling that the problem may occur when the unit powers on or off while recording. I made a post on this a couple of days ago in a different thread. Have you had any luck solving the problem yet? Anyone else?

I have not yet been able to track down the problem, but I'm starting to leave my box powered on all the time as well because I ran into the infamous "will not turn on" problem, requiring me to unplug the box and plug it back in to reset it. So hopefully your theory is right.
It's interesting to note that I'm in Winnipeg also.
In addition, when I had my box replaced, the Shaw technician was completely unaware that this obvious problem (the fast forwarding etc. issue) exists.
azza2005 2005-10-17, 05:03 PM Hi All...
So now I have my 6412/2000 (purchased in the US) and I am trying to get it activated.
Question is, since I have been able to successfully connect it to the cable, and download the new software, using the boot procedure as outlined in another forum, does that mean that it is compatible, and all shaw have to do is activate it???
because i am getting some grief from them....
azza2005 2005-10-19, 02:01 PM hey... great news!!! i am operational. Shaw finally added the box today, and bingo it all worked perfectly....no problems at all.
Winnipeg 2005-10-19, 08:05 PM I'm having a problem with my 6412 freezing... I can be watching a program and the picture will just freeze. I then have to change the channel to get the pic back.... I'm now finding that I'm having the problem with recorded shows, where I will fast foward through a commercial only to find I lost 10-15 minutes of the program.. any one else running into this problem?
Malejko 2005-10-19, 08:47 PM I've been reading this forum since before I got my Shaw 6208 just over a year ago.
I know that earlier people were trying to upgrade the HD and / or add on external hard drives. Has anyone been successful with the 6208 or even the 6412?
What about these new phase 3 boxes with HDMI and an external SATA port on them - anyone hook up like a Maxtor Quickview drive to the SATA port or anything and get it to work like it does on the Scientific Atlanta boxes?
I thought I saw posts saying that people had gotten such upgrades to work, but now I can't find them. 80GB just isn't enough, and even the 120GB in the 6412's just wouldn't be enough either!
