Update: Another power cycle has me back to getting the shows recorded watchable, but I still can't delete the phantom recordings.

Okay, I have a question. When you pause or skip or rewind or use slow motion you get the information bar at the bottom third of the screen that tells you were you are in the recording or live shot or what have you. My question is, is there anyway to get rid of this bar or move it. It never fails that if I want to pause the picture to get a good look at something, that the stupid bar is over the thing that I want to look at. I find this most annoying. Does anyone know of anything that can be done about this bar?

Also, after taking the advice of many of the postings on this site, I leave my 6412 on all the time to avoid the problems I was getting when I turned it on and off. Are there any problems developing from never turning the unit off?

Hit the Exit key to get rid of the bar (but it pops back up every time the minute indicator increments).

No problems here so far with just leaving it on all the time.

Has anyone else experienced a glitch where the 6412 temporarily forgets it has two tuners?
It seems to happen to me like this: I am recording something in the background, viewing a second channel. I then start playing something previously recorded. When I press stop during the previous recording, the box changes to displaying the in-progress background recording. From that point on, if I try to change the channel, the 6412 brings up the 'Cancel recording in progress?' dialog. (Until the recording finishes, anyway, then everything goes back to normal.)

From that point on, if I try to change the channel, the 6412 brings up the 'Cancel recording in progress?' dialog.I can't explain why it is switching to the tuner that is currently recording. But the warnings and behaviour you are seeing is normal if you are viewing a tuner where a recording is in progress.

The box isn't smart enough to switch tuners for you, even if the second tuner isn't in use. You have to hit the SWAP button to get to the tuner that isn't recording, and then you can change channels.

Doh! Okay, I understand now. Boy, is that ever a silly design flaw.... Thanks technut.

Are we still on the initial firmware release? Isn't that maybe something that could be programmed into the software?
Also, I've still got the phantom recordings....weird.

If you want to tweak the volume level of your 6412 to match other sources (or just to maximize it), the 6412 does have a functioning volume control.

There is no front panel volume control so you have to adjust it with the remote. Unfortunately the remote by default controls the TV volume, but you could program in the 6412's volume key codes if you really want to.

But an easier method for a one-time adjustment is as follows:
1) Press the Cable button at the top of the remote to ensure it is in Cable mode.
2) Press (don't hold) the Setup button and then press 143 for volume UP or 145 for volume DOWN.
3) Repeat step 2 for each increment of volume level, as many times as needed.

I've tried to do this with my 6412 as it seems to output sound much higher than my other equipment. However, I haven't been able to make these directions work.

Is there an update to these instructions or is there an alternate way to adjust the master volume?

Thanks,

Steve

Is there an update to these instructions or is there an alternate way to adjust the master volume? These work with my version 1 remote but with the newer version 2 (http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/forum/showpost.php?p=148264&postcount=7) remotes you'll have to add a couple of zeros, eg. 00143 and 00145.

If you have an iPaq (or some other handheld) with Nevo (or some other remote program), you can download the remote codes for a Mot box and use the iPaq to change the master volume.

Just found this great guide for those that want more technical info about the 6400 series:

Hi there!

I recently bought a Motorola DCT 6412 at Ebay. I tried to get Shaw to activate the box. Gave them the GI number, serial number and the U/A number. The last number they asked for was the number the comes after the DCT6412.

After waiting for almost a week, I was told that the box the I bought is not compatible with Shaw. Is this possible?

Shawguy, any suggestions? I blew 415.00 for the box. Is this a firmware problem? Software problem? Can this be fixed?

Please help!!

Number is 2005. Will that matter? Anyway, I looked at the thread above. It seems like there might be a way. I will have Shaw add my box in their inventory. And I'll try that suggestion. Hopefully it works for me.

Thanks Technut, your stuff here are really helpful.

Just talked to Shaw. They are unwilling to add my box in their inventory. Because if they do, they say that they will have to service or even replace it if it breaks down.

Any suggestions?

I don't know what the difference between a /2000 and a /2005 is yet, but I suspect it may have to do with the coax connector(s). I'll post about that in the other thread.

I can understand Shaw not being willing to add your box to inventory since it isn't one of their boxes, but does that mean they aren't willing to activate it? It seems to me those are two different things.

They tell me that for them to activate the box, it has to be in their inventory. Question is why they allow other people to be activated (or added in their inventory) and not me? In the other threads, they activated those other guys who bought the 6412 in the US or those who moved in the Shaw area from non-Shaw area. It does not make sense.

I've lost my recording. It doesn't show up on the Future Recordings menu, but it's still recording.
Do I power cycle, or should I create a new recording over top to cancel the old one?
