Uwish 2005-01-17, 04:49 PM SHAW HAS GONE LIVE WITH THE 6412!

Felgar 2005-01-18, 11:05 AM Thanks for the updates Uwish. I have a 6412 pre-ordered with A&B, so now let's just hope they come in soon.
technut 2005-01-19, 10:46 PM Further to my previous post (http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/forum/showthread.php?p=153493#post153493) in this thread, here's a scan of the Shaw BuyBack Form, which clearly indicates a $300 buyback for HD terminals:

So why is Shaw doing this? Surely its is not just to be fair and respectful of their clients and do the right thing. That would be nice but there must be something else going on or maybe its just a dream :D
technut 2005-01-20, 12:49 AM Talked to A&B Sound and Shaw today. It is my understanding that both have the 6412 in stock in Vancouver now. And another user posted that Visions also has stock, and $50 off coupon (http://www.visions.ca/coupons.asp). And someone else posted that A&B Sound price-matched the $50 off price.
Unfortunately I'm in Victoria and nobody has it here yet, to my knowledge.
PokerChip 2005-01-20, 01:08 AM Is the 6208 eligible??? 6200 is there.
The form says Other DCT (Specify). How much would a 6208 be worth?
Talked to a shaw CSR a few days ago who, like many have mentioned, said that the 6412 would be on it's way within a week. Have the 6200 but I was quite anxious to get a PVR. I held out until this weekend so I could get the programming credits (new house, no longer under roommate so new account) and was hoping to get the 6412 activated at the same time. Unfortunately not going to happen.
BB, FS, A&B, Visions (Calgary) all have it in their system but at zero stock and no firm date. BB had a very friendly supervisor, would not match visions $50 web coupon but said he might be able to do store credit. FS & A&B said no to matching web coupon (but I didn't talk to a supervisor/manager).
Sorry if this is all redundent and been said before, just confirming the latest news in Calgary.
On a side note Visions was getting rid of their 6208s for $414, initially said no to web coupon but then gave it to me for $364. Wanted the 6412 and was willing to wait a week or two more, but I figured I can't go wrong with $205 (after credits) for a PVR, dual tuner and more space would have been nice but since I have a 6200 I guess I'll just have to live with watching stuff in the other room if I want to record a different channel (or return it for the 6412 in a month).....6208 owners please put any buyers remorse out of my mind and tell me it'll be fine...:(
GrBell 2005-01-20, 10:20 AM I've only had the 6412 for a few hours, but these are the reasons I prefer it to the 6208.
1. Much less noise, although those who have said it is silent need their hearing checked.
2. You can record all shows in a series. For example I told it to record all episodes of my fav. BBC show "Spooks". No more having to search for when it's on each week (I hope).
3. The Swap button to access the dual tuners seems to work well. I recorded 2 shows at the same time.

GrBell, I'm pikcing up the 6412 shortly (have the 6208) and was wondering what the process is to recored a series? Is it really smart enough to find all occurences of the show in the guide and record them or does it just record it at the same time/channel based on the interval you setup (ie, weekly)? The 6208 has a repeat interval, so I'm hoping the 6412 is more "Tivo like".
Funny. I asking this because my wife wants to record all of her BBC shows, including Spooks. Best way to get new toys? Make it so your wife gets use out of it too.
GrBell 2005-01-20, 01:36 PM The record menu on the 6412 has a new option "record series" that wasn't there on the 6208. You have 3 choices which are "first run", "first run + repeat" and "all episodes". Not sure what the difference is between the last two !

I think the second option is designed to help catch repeats for the first run episode which occur later that day (or week). Its purpose is to ensure that a programming conflict doesn't prevent you from catching that first run episode.

Execllent, thanks. I wonder if it's able to only record a single instance of the same episode that is repeated at different times/channels to prevent duplication. i.e., the episode is new but is replayed at different times or on different stations and you only want to record it once. Any idea? Maybe options 2 & 3 have something to do with this.
jeff1960 2005-01-20, 03:01 PM I just spoke with Shaw in Saskatoon. The CSR had no knowledge of a trade-up policy for 62x0 users. She's going to check into it and will hopefully call back with some good news. What really irks me about this is that I'd be happy if my 6200 could record to an external firewire hard drive . . .. like the Motorola site said it would be able to.

Jeff:
Did Saskatoon Shaw say they had some in stock?
thanks
Puzz13 2005-01-20, 07:35 PM The DCT-6412 is available from Shaw in Edmonton as of today for $748.88.
6412 arrived at Visions in Calgary today. yesterday they had no clue, go figure
dual tuner, +40GB, quieter, series record option, pip(?), am I missing anything (in comparrison to the 6208)?
GrBell 2005-01-20, 10:00 PM Other minor differences I've noticed are :-
Menu system seems snappier (does it have a faster cpu inside?)
The system doesn't lock up if you surf past a porno channel
Front panel has the red light on when recording (I thought I had a message)
Fast Forward much faster. 30 second skip forward command is useful.
Alan Bealby 2005-01-21, 01:17 AM I was wondering if the 6208 also has the bug that prevents me from Fast Forwarding faster than FF1 speed on the three Sportsnet digital channels and the Star! TV digital channel. I was reminded of this problem when I tried to record an hour long program today from one of the Sportsnet digital channels and then FWD over the commercials. Can't do it. I had canclled the Sportsnet digital channel because recording them on the 6208 is mostly useless when you can't FWD at greater than FF1 through commercials. As they are I am back to watching the digital channels as the picture is much better on them than the anlog channel. So easy to set the recording on the 6208 but useless on playback.
I was hoping that this problem was fixed as GrBell said the freeze on Playboy and Hustler was not present on the 6412. If they both are fixed on the 6412 there may be hope for the 6208. It has been a long time though that these problems have been on the 6208.
GrBell 2005-01-21, 10:35 AM I watched one of the 3 sportnet channels and went backwards and forwards fast with no problem. Is that a good enough test or to duplicate the bug do you need to record a show ?
Alan Bealby 2005-01-21, 01:41 PM GrBell
"Do you have to record a show .... ?" I don't know. I usually don't try and REW in a program I am watching. Just my viewing habits. I have just experienced the problem with recordings. I will be busy until this evening but I will try and see if the problem shows up if I watch one of the Sportsnet digi-channels for awhile and REW at faster than REW1 speed. That also triggers the problem with recording. I will verify if it can correctly rewind at higher speeds and then I will then try and FF at faster then FF1 speeds and post here this evening.
t would be nice to verify that the 6412 either has this problem or does not. I will use any leverage I can get to take to Shaw to get them to fix the outstanding problems with the 6208.
