To those interested, I have the 6141 with an EHD. After I record a movie I can play it back while recording it to my DVD recorder........it's good for those who like to keep certain movies and not use up the hard drive space.
Are you connecting the DVD recorder to the 6141 or
are you recording the output of the TV?

This device seems like a good solution
with it you can record using an component input

The files on the external hard drive are encrypted, but they can be copied using a linux system. They are ext3 format. You won't be able to view them, though.
I already know that i can see these files, but that they are encrypted.
I currently have a 500g external.
My intent would be to copy these files off, (temporarily) and then replace my 500g with a 1TB drive and transfer them back (after Bell formats the new 1TB drive, of course).
Do you know if that would be possible? (FYI-I understand that this would have to be done under a linux filesystem)

I was able to record a program from the PVR to my Liteon DVD recorder through the RF coax output. When I played back the DVD, the picture wasn't bad. My component, composite nd Svideo outputs on the 6141 are already being used or the quality might even be better. I was then able to view the VOB files on my PC and play the movie back on the PC.

Yes it is possible. I have done it. See the EHD issues thread related to the firmware update 183 (I think).

How does it work, i have been trying to figure out a solution which does not make me open the PVR 5900 as it is rented. I tried getting the TV Tuner to USB Stick option but unfortunately it does not detect the signals coming from the PVR on Coaxial.

I need to know how this box works does. How to configure this Box to get all the recordings from the PVR to my system? Also any special type of system required?

If you wish to discuss the Hippauge device, please use the existing threads in the HTPC forum. This is the PVR rip thread.

Question for you guys. When I had my 9242, I tried plugging in one of my USB HDD's as an external HDD for it. It formated it, but couldn't use it.

Now that it's been formated by the receiver, Windows doesn't detect it as an HDD anymore. Just as an Unknown Device.

Anyone know of a way to format this thing or get Windows to detect it again?

Thanks.

If you reconnect to PC, it should show up as a volume in the Disk Management section of the Computer Management console.

Google is your friend here, but that is one of the "friendliest" ways to get it available again.

Just wondering the format of these recordings are on the PVRs, and if they are at all encrypted? Could I play them on my computer?

I would assume not since I can see the issues with that, but just wanted to know for sure.

They are all encrypted and therefore cannot be played on a PC.

They can be transferred to a Linux machine but still not viewed.

does this work for HD or only SD?

Encrypted on the internle hard drive too? PVREXPLORE doesn't decrypt?

PVR Explore used to work but not now, I believe.

PVRExplorer still works for a 9200, including HD content. The resulting files are MPEG2 format, they are not encrypted and they can be viewed on a PC. These are facts, not idle speculation.

Really?! Have you done this, Simmer?

I'm kinda stoked now; if I can get HD stuff off my 9200 and onto my Mac.....good times!! :D

Thank you for that conformation Simmer. Someone forgot the story of the pot and the kettle.

Nuje, if you read this thread from the beginning you will see that Simmer has done this.

Just remember that the sale and/or distribution of copyrighted material without the permission of the owner is illegal. I'm not absolutely sure but copying for personal use may be permitted in Canada. I'm guessing BTV is fully aware that this is going on and they are quietly tolerating it due to that hassles involved in addressing it.

So don't do anything stupid and mess things up for everyone else.
