I know everyone is waiting for a bell HD PVR but I saw a blurb in the globe about http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/dvr/product.asp?model=rd-xs52
I only see Front Panel A/V & IEEE1394DV Inputs so I guess you'd need a cable box or something similar, so you could record it to your pc for free if you really wanted anyway.
And HDMI? Video Upconversion - 720p/1080i is only for watching dvds? It's not a input for recording from 720p or 1080i?

This will allow you to make 480i (NTSC) recordings with the s-video and RCA audio inputs. They would not be HD but you could record HD channels from the s-video outputs of a 6000 or 6100. This will not work while you are watching HD at the same time on the 6000, not sure about the 6100.
This unit will not give you a lot more than a standard VCR but will cost a lot more. I would wait for a HD PVR or upgrade your PC with a video capture card/AIW and DVD writer.

No, it's just an output. You can not record from HDMI/DVI.

The unit...and all DVR's, can be used for so much more than just recording an HD program, (yes you can record from the 6100, while watching it).
In this day and age, yes, it would be nice to have a two tuner HD-PVR, but if you wait for BEV, that may be another two years...especially if DISH is upgrading to MPEG 4 support and BEV plays puppy dog and follows the leader again.
With a DVR you can archive old VHS tapes onto DVD and make yourself a movie collection from TMN or MC, and have them stored on DVD.
If you have a camcorder and get the Pioneer series, (I only say that because I don't know the Toshiba's), they have firewire and you can archive your kids concerts or your trips to DVD as well.
Not to mention the fact that you can chase playback and pause live TV, just like the PVR's that BEV has now...and they cost just a fraction more.
All in all, there is something to be said for waiting...but then there is always something better coming out down the road...especially when it comes to Electronics and Computers and if you end up waiting too long...you will end up with nothing.
Bite the bullet and buy a DVR, (with a HDD), and you will wonder why you waited so long.
My two cents...
