White Water 2006-01-31, 01:08 PM WW
How can I tell if my unit is updating.
I did a reset and then followed your directions.
Currently the bell box is moving around.
A.
The screen saver (Bell Box) should disappear and there will be a progress bar from what I remember. Before starting the process, make sure that TV2 is off, no blue light. If this still doesn't work, then it's possible that your unit's number is not in the list to get the update yet.

At least in the past, I have been able to prevent attempts at updating (& therfore crashing) by
1)disable auto update of guide - thjis has the effect of "turning off" both tuners at 3AM, and leaving you susceptible to crash
2) make sure the blue or green light is always ON - ie dont turn "off" from the remote screen that is fed by TV2 to keep blue light on
The only prob with this in the past, was that you would have to wait for guide to DL every 2 days
of course, you dont get update with this approacj

THis issue of them adding receiver number in batches in order to allow download - you seem to indicate this with authority, but how come I have never noticed this with any other receiver I have owned - and I have owned several different receivers in the past
In the past, whenever i have seen it listed that that an update is avaialble, if my receiver hasnt already taken it, I just turn receiver off, and it then the update usually comes within 10 min or so
Jeff
AndreGT6 2006-01-31, 02:56 PM I'm going to reset again and see what happens.
If not I'll just leave it on to avoid the lock up.
And call Bell.
A.
AndreGT6 2006-01-31, 03:40 PM So far no updates.
But every 15 mins the unit seems to cycle on and off.
IE the screen saver turns off, the tv goes to static (RF mode) green light comes on and then goes off back into saver mode.
We'll see if the unit freezes after beening off for an hour.

This policy started after a large percentage of single tuner PVR owners downloaded buggy E545 software a year ago. If there is a flood of complaints coming in regarding new software (from the first batch) then the others will not obtain the software and in some cases the software can be rolled back on those few models. This actually had happened with the 3100 not long ago. software version E536 was only in the stream about 3 days before it went back to E535.
AndreGT6 2006-01-31, 08:24 PM System locked up again.
Time to call bella...

AndreGT6 2006-01-31, 09:12 PM Update. Just off the phone.
I talked to 2 levels of techs.
First guy (after making me listening to that horrid music for 15 mins) told me I needed to resync my remote. I quickly asked to be forwarded to the next level which he did.
The 2nd tech was much better, she was not very current on the 3200, but tried to help me.
She asked me to go to 615 which does nothing for us :) TV Modular set up.
So she asked me to go to the point dish, set the transponder 13 and wait 30 mins.
If it does not update they will send me another 3200. I will not take 2 3100's.

reciptrap 2006-02-01, 08:34 AM Has the new software V107 fixed the problem.
AndreGT6 2006-02-01, 11:03 AM V107 is the problem. Wont download.
Set was locked this AM.
I may give it a few more days before I call Bell and have a new reciever set out.

reciptrap 2006-02-01, 05:03 PM I called this morn and asked right away for a senior tech and I got one after less than 5 mins the guy wiped all programing and told me to do the normal reset then shut down for 2 hrs when I started it up I had the update V107, But no channels, and as I am just about to throw it out the window, the phone rings and senior tech says did it take the upgrade I said yes but and he said I know you have no channels I am going to program them now, and he did . The info screen is different, same as my 4100 everything works for how long ????????? this might be the fix the guy said he was sure it was.
Falcon 2006-02-02, 10:23 PM V104 is no longer there. All units should update to V107.
TheSteve 2006-02-02, 10:53 PM There is a bug in the software update code in v104.
The 3200 will try to update and then crash and reboot.
Once in a while they won't crash and they will actually update - how long it could take nobody knows.
Way to go Bell!
Jeffnoone 2006-02-03, 12:18 AM YEah
I'm contiunuing to crash, despite the streaming of v107 only - no update for me
This is different to other stubborn updates, where it kept trying to DL the update - here it seems to be truly crashed, so I assume no more happens until it is reset by us
Ah well - how many hours will that cost me pleading with CSR's as they waste my time with generic suggestions, before I get thru to a CSR layer who might be able to do something
Sorry if I'm cynical, but they have quite a business - buggy software, then probably 6-10 more of my hours messing with this
BTW if someone does get a reliable way to overcome this - would they be able to post aticket number here, so that we coul ddirect CSR's to it
It seems as if a full reset is one possiblity - can this only be doen when there are Tier 3 people around - I believe this is MOn - fri working hours EST only
TG982 2006-02-03, 01:19 AM There is a bug in the software update code in v104.

My 3200 took a week of rebooting and crashing before it took the 103 to 104 update. I just left it alone and didn't use it for the whole week. When I finally gave up all hope I found it one morning updated. Now that the 107 update is out I'm guessing it's going to be the same rollercoaster ride!
It's not the software... it's the hardware! This is why Bell stopped selling the 3200's. Dish in the US has the same model known as a 322 and they had all kinds of problems with it too.
AndreGT6 2006-02-03, 09:31 AM I've disabled updates and leave the set on so at least it wont crash every hour.
A.
Jeffnoone 2006-02-03, 11:36 AM We may have a method to do this - basically that suggested by Reciptrap
I called in around 10.30PM last nite to Tech Support, got thru in about 6-8 minutes.
Gave tech a brief outline
Firstly the tech informed me that at least for the West Coast (outside of 5AM to 6PM EST) TEch Support was an emergency service only - this is teh first time I have heard this, as up to now, Tech Support seemed willing to tackle (or mess up) any problem, albeit without the help of Level 2 and 3, who seem to only work the above hours
This set me back a bit, didn't ask what was an "emergency" - ?$50 blown on PPP wrestling with a non-working receiver
Anyway I went on to explain the contents of this thread, and that the only solution I felt worked was the Reciptrap soultion - amazingly she actually listened to this, without the usual "what's your signal strength" "each receiver needs it own wall power socket" etc. that usually goes on
She didn't seem specifiaclly knowledgeeable on the 3200 issue
Then I asked for what usually would be unachievable without doing it their way - could she reset both 3200's? - entoire reset with loss of channels
"Yes - will do this" - I take back all my complaining
Turned off one receiver with off button, other with remote
40 minutes later receiver A had 107
The other receiver was in a bedroom, and I had just turned it off with remote but left it unwittingly on the Golf Channel - this one was still at 104, but now had no channels. Cahnged it to channel 198 ,and set transponders to 13 on both tuners, turned off with remote - 90 minutes later it had 107 also
BTW I unfortunately did not watch the screen(s) during this process, so I cant comment as to whether the usual "downloading software" progress bar appeared or not
So this looks like this might work reliably - she did not give me a ticket #
So must admit I was wrong on this one - Bell did come thru, with some help from this forum
reciptrap 2006-02-04, 11:19 AM Since I got the update I have tried everything and I cannot make it crash, leave off all night , leave off all day, switch on switch off , caller ID working. guide update working(3am default setting).even tried timers they work (first time for me) So far I am happy and when it comes to watching TV no one should have a problem.
bigz89 2006-02-05, 12:58 PM After another 45 min on the phone with BEV today they were unable to get my 3200 to update. They offered 2 ,3100's or a 3200 with V107 already installed. I said send the 3200 as the 3100's are more out of date then the 3200. Will let you know what happens.
Jeffnoone 2006-02-05, 02:08 PM Did they try the method of doing a full reset, including a wipe of your card from their end?
THis process takes several hours, as they can wipe your programiing and card clean very quickly, but it seems to take several hours before the receiver either takes your programming again, or is sent it.
Hope this is not a similar fiasco for everyone
