EnderWiggin 2008-01-29, 06:47 AM I brought a copy of Cyndi Lauper - Live At Last (2004) for my GF but after watching it with her, I now have respect for Cyndi as a performer, she is very talented, funny and witty. Very entertaining...

BCScott 2008-01-29, 07:52 PM The new Cowboy Junkies "Trinity Sessions Revisited" was just released in a combo CD-DVD package. I recorded it from CBC-HD a couple of months ago and it's spectacular! Lots of guest artists including Ryan Adams who does an incredible job.

vanzant 2008-06-02, 08:06 PM Roy Orbison Rules DVD 1988.
Roy Orbison and Friends: A Black and White Night 1988
A number of reviewers comment on the absolutely spectacular 5.1 and DTS mixes for this release and I couldn't agree more....this is not only arguably the best DVD yet released, the remix was done from 1987 tapes and really shows why it is worth considering re-buying your favorite music when remixes are released.
Regarding the black and white format.....it is sharp and clear with excellent video mixes.....you are usually on the right person at the right time throughout and the fact that it was shot at LA's Coconut Grove makes it even better.
And now the music....ah, the music....of coure it has Pretty Woman, Cryin', Dream Baby. But what is spectacular is Roy's delivery of Blue Bayou, the sailing lyric in It's Over, the rhythm section on Candy Man, the fun in redoing his 1st hit from Sun Studios...Ooby Dooby...there isn't a track on this one that won't find a special place in your heart.
It simply cannot be said any other way.....this is what Roy was always all about....and you've got Springsteen, Lang, Souther, Riatt, T-Bone, Costello, Browne......all to vouch for it!
Dave Murray 2008-06-02, 11:08 PM New Version (the previous was on LD). The Ultimate Heavy Metal DVD.
Didn't really know where to put this, so I chose this thread. It's not really a concert DVD, but it is something that music fans may like.
I just purchased the Genesis 1970-1975 (7CD and 6DVD) box set. There are other versions available soon in vinyl and SACD, however, this one has what I needed. The DVDs are encoded in DTS-ES and DD5.1. The remixes of the early Genesis years (with Peter Gabriel) are excellent. Those who are two channel fanatics can listen to the CDs while those interested in surround sound can listen to 6 channel surround (DTS) or DD5.1. The vinyl people can spend twice as much and get the albums. ;) (I have the original vinyl in good condition)
I've listened to about 2 hours so far and the mixes are great. The comments from the Genesis personnel are also interesting (although again, I've only listened to less than 10% of what's available in this box set so far).

Edit. Note that there is no real "video" with the music on the DVDs of the Albums. There is discussion as a separate section afterwards, but don't expect any video with this older music, other than some static pictures. This leaves lots of room for the DTS-ES and DD5.1 audio.
Edit 2. Watched some more today and there is some archival footage, with pretty poor PQ and sound...

It includes the archival footage of some old televised concerts (such as the 1973 Shepparton BBC show). Not exactly the best quality, and all stuff are already easily found on the Internet, but nice bonuses nonetheless. (would have been even better if they had discovered a complete video of a concert from "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" tour, but that's probably just dreaming at this point).
For best concert DVD, since we're on the topic, I'll add "Genesis - When In Rome 2007".
ironman07 2009-02-17, 04:29 PM Paul van Dyk - Global
JohnnyCanuck 2009-05-26, 11:26 PM Came across a really intriguing one: Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama.
It's actually a 1996 concert from a German TV festival featuring probably the strongest post-1977 lineup. Four original members (Gary Rossington, Rickey Medlocke, Billy Powell, Leon Wilkeson), Johnny Van Zant, and Hughie Thomasson (The Outlaws). It's not remarkable for the video or audio quality. The same lineup's 1997 Lyve From Steel Town is appreciably better in terms of quality and I would strongly recommend that over this.
What really makes this DVD stand out is the inclusion of three bonus tracks from a 1974 Hamburg performance for the same TV show. Although the quality's not great, the footage was in remarkably good shape. Very little footage of Skynyrd from that era exists. The songs are Working for MCA, Freebird, and Sweet Home Alabama. The lineup was Ronnie Van Zant, Wilkeson, Powell, Rossington, Allen Collins, Bob Burns, and Ed King. Collins absolutely kills the Freebird solo, King co-wrote Sweet Home Alabama, and Rossington's slide guitar is as pretty as anything anyone has ever laid down. It's a remarkable three tracks of a band entering its prime.
What are the chances that "Eagles Farewell Tour 1 Melbourne" will be released in Blu Ray? The HD-DVD version is of reference quality both in AQ and PQ. The other one that may come close to or equal it is "Elton John 60th Birthday". Coming close as third for me is "The Police: Certifiable."
