Tragically Hip - One Night in Toronto (the best $10 concert dvd ever)

An excellent price, but how about $6.88 for "Rattle And Hum" from the Wallymart bin ??? I saw a few there the other night. Best concert DD track I've ever heard.

filper....have u heard the Tragically Hip DVD? I have the rattle and hum one (one of the biggest U2 fans for 18 years) and I have to say the Tragically Hip sounds amazing. The new U2 vertigo DVD sounds very good though.

I've got all 3. I'm a rock n' roll junkie :).

The Vertigo audio track is great, but the fast editing gives me a headache.

'Rattle and Hum' has a warmth in it's presentation and perfectly captures U2 at their zenith. I'm sure I've watched it 30 times.

'That Night In Toronto' is an excellent capture of The Hip as they are... Maybe I'll fire that one up again tonight.

If you think that editing is bad you should try one of the Paul McCartney DVD's!

Unfortunately I've seen this trend on too many DVD's.

It seems to be a 'kiddie video' mentality... even a Micheal Buble DVD I have suffers from this quick cut eyestrain.

The Eagles-Farewell tour 1 from Melbourne Australia.

DTS 5.1 sound with PCM stereo as well. The video is great and so is the editing. A real pleasure for the eyes and ears.

I am a Junkie as well. I wish they would release 'Under a Blood Red Sky' on DVD. That was fun to watch on vhs.

Rattle and Hum takes me back to my youth...damn im old.

Some other notables are

Audioslave 'Live in Cuba' not the best picture quality but nice to see the first US band to Play Cuba. Chris Cornell is great.

Any Coldplay DVD you can get your hands on...the one only released in Europe is great. Can't remember the name.

Metallica...what more can I say about these guys....great DVD's

This not my favourite, but it certainly merits a mention. I got it originally for my best half...

"Caught In The Act" Michael Buble.

Well shot and a superb LPCM stereo audio track... in fact I didn't know I didn't have the 5.1 DD track playing until the show was over.

A wonderful Canadian performer with charisma and great stage presence who performs the standards as if he were from the era.

The package includes a 'bonus' CD as well.

A great night out !

I agree. It's great to watch a performer who really appears to enjoy what he is doing ! Great entertainment !
I just finished rewatching my copy of Eagles' "Hell Freezes Over" DVD.
In my mind, it's still the benchmark, by which to judge all other concert DVD's for both PQ and audio. Far superior to the more recent "Farewell I Tour".

Yes, I'm a much bigger fan of pre-Achtung U2 then I am of the current crop. I have the Boston and Vertigo shows but rarely put them in, and I'd seriously approach any new CDs or DVDs from them with caution. "Sky" was a great show and would be fantastic to revisit with remixed sound and restored picture.

Rattle and Hum takes me back to my youth...damn im old.
I remember going to opening night for this flick at Park Lane cinemas. Loved it. I was in grade 12 at the time and their music could still affect me emotionally. When they kicked into "Helter Skelter" I remember getting a chill down my spine...good ol' days. Somehow the latest Nickelback or whatever else passes for "good" music doesn't move me at all the way the older stuff does, but that could also be the age speaking ;-)

Audioslave 'Live in Cuba' not the best picture quality but nice to see the first US band to Play Cuba. Chris Cornell is great.
Abolutely. And I have every Rage CD and DVD I could get my hands on. Now if only Tool would release a live DVD...

Always mean to grab "A Year in the Life" on DVD. My VHS copies just don't cut it. I just picked up the latest Motorhead - right from the outset, with the kickoff to "Dr. Rock", these guys just don't let up. Your ass will be bruised from the relentless kicking it will take.

I think u and I have the same taste in Music. I agree on all points. My favorite U2 song is probably Running to stand still. I love playing it on guitar...only if I could sing. Some of my other fav's are Radiohead and Pearl Jam. Also the old stuff from both bands. I have all the DVD's from both bands and some are hit and miss. I really like guitar centric music.

If you get a chance and like Coldplay...one of the best DVD's out there is their 2003 Live show. I find Chris Martin not a great singer live but on this dvd he shines.

I totally agree on Tool needing a live dvd. A Perfect Circle also needs to release a live one.

Cohhed and Cambria have also gotten my attention lately. Only have a few songs by them but they seem to be a well put together band.

...Pearl Jam.
Yes! The show in Halifax was incredible. They are truly a "fan's" band. Of course, I remember that flaccid crap Q104 endlessly fellating the Stones and hyping the Moncton show, and pretending to like PJ as the show date approached. Their idea of playing a PJ song is spinning "Last Kiss", but only if it doesn't bump the endless monotony of Eagles, Doobies, Supertramp, BTO, Guess Who, Steve Miller, and other classic rock acts they play over and over and over until you get physically ill. Their playlist hasn't changed in 15 years, and listening to this station is like eating cardboard.

I'll have to check them out!

Yah the show in Hali was amazing. They played a good set and I was very happy leaving the concert. Seemed Eddie really got into the show...which many have said in the past he doesn't.

Its actually Coheed and Cambria sorry I type terribly sometimes. I listen to Mudvayne some right now...they are a bit hard alternative but have some good songs. Waiting for a DVD from them as well.

Yesterday, I picked up Fleetwood Mac - The Dance and Diana Krall - Live in Paris. (While I'm not a huge fan of Diana Krall, I do like some of her stuff and I decided to buy the DVD after reading numerous positive reviews.) Last night, I gave both of them a partial viewing (~45min./ea.).

-------------------------------------
Live in Paris: Stunning. Sultry. Mesmerizing. Yes, she is. But so is the concert! :D The DTS soundtrack is perfect: Instruments and vocals are crisp and well-placed and the surround sound field is immersive without being obtrusive. (It's similar in quality to the audio on the Eagles - Hell Freezes Over DVD but even better.)

The PQ is excellent if a little soft on the occasional shot, but the camera work is great, with plenty of close-ups and without the MTV-style quick edits. I highly recommend this DVD.

"Let's fall in love..." - I'm already there! :D

(Video: 9-9.5/10 | Audio: 10/10)

-------------------------------------
The Dance: I caught this concert on TV when it aired a few years ago and, generally speaking, I liked it. (Buckingham's an excellent guitar player, but his stage presence is somewhat irritating.)

The DVD's 1.33:1 OAR and PQ reminded me of, well, a made-for-TV special: Not bad, but not great. (SoundStage it ain't!) The DD5.1 audio is pretty good, although not as expansive or well-balanced as the audio on Live in Paris. It's also a little uneven: The bass on Fleetwood's drums is exaggerated compared to the rest of the instrumentation, while McVie's bass guitar is surprisingly muted.

Those quibbles aside, the band is in fine form and the songs are enjoyable. For $13.99 at Music World, it was worth picking up.

(Video: 7.5-8/10 | Audio: 8/10)

I agree with almost all of the already posted concert DVDs. One that hasn't been mentioned is "THE CORRS - LIVE IN LONDON". It's a great DVD, and was my first DVD to offer multi-angle views :).
