: What are you watching on DVD these days?
johnp'in'bc 2007-04-09, 09:42 AM Jackie Brown.... six players on the trail of a half million dollars in cash .. the only questions are ... who's going to get played .. and who's going to make the big score!! A film by Quentin Tarantino. Great view!! Fantastic (crystal clear) transfer and sound. Not sure how or why I avoided this one for so long. Took it, along with another from a "2/for" discount bin the other day .. what a catch!!
skypilot 2007-04-09, 12:18 PM Children of Men - I can't remember being so forcefully swept up by the imagery and emotion as I was in this movie! Exceptional to the bitter-sweet end. For me, the symbolism of animals -- appearing at random in unpredictable places -- was equally gripping. 10/10 for me!
Interestingly enough I found Babel to be a little boring. I don't think the stories came together as well as they did in Crash (although I have heard people say the opposite). Cinematography was excellent - would like to see that in HD :)
kgeorge78 2007-04-11, 06:50 PM recently i saw babel - crap; rockey - crap; casion royal - pretty good!
But right now Im watching 24 Season 4. The first 3 seasons were amazing. Season 4 is on par if not better than them.
Can't wait until the ending (8 more hours to go!!)
I also purchased a few old westerns.
Hondo
Hang Em High
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly
The magnificant Seven
Pretty excited to watch them - wife is going away for a few days so it gives me things to do!
Also just purchased Children of Men. Possible Sunday night watch.

I agree with you. This was a sad attempt to capture the type of magic that crash provided.
eljay 2007-04-14, 11:31 PM The Departed - A rookie cop goes undercover to gather the evidence necessary to take down a Boston crime boss, while one of the mobster's protégés infiltrates the ranks of the Massachusetts State Police's SIU to act as his informant. When the opposing sides become aware that they have a "rat" in their midst, each man is forced to put his hidden identity at risk in order to expose the other. The increasingly treacherous struggle between the cops and the crooks ultimately leads to a confrontation between the two men, only one of whom will survive it.
The story, although a little erratic at times, was interesting and fairly elaborate. Both DiCaprio and Nicholson turned in solid performances. All in all, a very decent drama.
microft 2007-04-15, 10:27 AM The Good Shepherd - Was expecting more, the movie never takes off. Great cast and interesting story but bored me to sleep.
The sound was mostly centre channel and didn't help the movie at all.

Can someone tell me what is the relation between the little boy and the girl he kept peeping tru the hole at? I ask because of what he was doing up on the rocks when he pulled down his pants....very bizarre. Am talking about babel of course
hockeymancw 2007-04-17, 09:44 AM I picked up Jackie Brown (with Pam Grier, DeNiro and Sam Jackson) for 10 bucks. It was excellent - story about a Stewardess, Bail Bond Lender, Local Gun Dealer and Friends who try to trick the cops into letting them smuggle $50,000 in to the US from Mexico.)
I also got Killing Zoe for 10 bucks. This is a bank robbery gone wrong. It is a very good movie; Eric Stolz stars.
For that price, I would recommend both.

Its been about a month since I saw the movie. But if I recall the relationship was brother and sister. Weren't they the only family up in that part of the mountain? And yes this would make the whole scene rather bizzarre.
digitalfiend 2007-04-20, 04:03 PM Smokin' Aces. I wasn't expecting much, but it was very entertaining!
Nels Stewart 2007-04-21, 02:20 AM The History Boys - A close-knit group of eight students return to their prep school for an extra term to hone their qualifications to get into Oxford University but a whiff of scandal befalls their favorite teacher and threatens to distract them from their goal. Based on the play of the same name, using the same cast, the movie starts a little wordy but then finds its stride as you get to know the characters.
SensualPoet 2007-04-21, 11:15 AM Isn't that sort of Dead Poet's Society but without Robin Williams?
eljay 2007-04-21, 10:28 PM Capote - A mass murder in Kansas becomes author Truman Capote's inspiration for his next novel. The obsession which grips him during the course of his research - which spans several years - results in a novel that secures his status as a literary genius and also haunts him for the rest of his career.
Although the story is somewhat minimalist and moves at a leisurely pace, the movie is both interesting and captivating and features another outstanding performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman as Capote. (Damn, this guy is good!)
Nels Stewart 2007-04-22, 09:42 AM The Butcher Boy - Neil Jordan's tale of a young Irish boy's troubled childhood at the height of the Cold War is darkly comic and twisted. Eamonn Owens, as Francie Brady, is a smart-talking whirlwind who carries the film entirely on his young shoulders in his very first movie role. This brilliant 1997 film is FINALLY out on dvd; I can't believe it's taken this long! Now if only Miramax would get around to releasing Hear My Song...
kgeorge78 2007-04-22, 09:34 PM Today I bought:
The last King of Scottland
The Good Shepperd
Children of Men
Wifes gone on VaCa with the girls so I have all week!
Plus I just finished 24 season 4 (amazing) so its time for a few movies before I start season 5.
HIDEF 2007-04-23, 09:47 AM Saw Blood Diamond yesterday. definately worth the 2 1/2 hours.
beware, not for children under 16 as it gets pretty graphic in violence.
james99 2007-04-23, 09:49 AM I'm waiting for the HD version of Blood (later this summer) glad you enjoyed it.
digitalfiend 2007-04-23, 03:46 PM How's Children of Men?
eljay 2007-04-23, 03:52 PM Depends on who you ask:
