A Slight Case of Murder - William H. Macy in fine form!! "Delicious caper" -- smart comic thriller, well-written and acted, based on a novel by Donald E. Westlake. An entertaining and fun view.

'Lucky Number Slevin' has a great bunch of surprises and some fine acting.

We both enjoyed it.

Yes I agree about "Lucky # Slevin". A couple of older ones I liked that I just got around to are "Match Point", and "Brick".

"Match Point" -- we just gave that one another look - and enjoyed it this time as much as the first time!!

I liked Match Point as well.

Hostel - Three backpackers find themselves in a Slovakian hostel that promises easy pleasure...and horrifying pain!

We were hoping that this movie, like "Saw", might be unexpectedly good, but it turned out to be even worse than we had imagined.

X-Men 3: The Last Stand - Great CGI, a couple of really cool fight/battle sequences, painfully trite dialogue and rote plot twists. Snore.

Dead Zone: Collector's Edition. The transfer and audio are pretty close to the original and the extras are pretty slim. If you have the original there is no need to buy this. If you are a big King fan the 4 extra features are pretty interesting. No interviews with King or Walken though.:(

Der Untergang (The Downfall) - I picked it up recently, along with Jackie Brown, as part of a "2 for $30" deal at HMV.

Now this is a movie! (See previous review (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=23456).)

Lost:Season 2 - the A/V quality on these season sets approach cinema levels. Those watching the series in HD must find it awesome.

Der Untergang (The Downfall) -- we really enjoyed our first view of that one, must do it again soon!!
Re: Lost S2 -- totally agree - and we're sure enjoying it on our new set!!

Watched The Flight of the Phoenix (1965) last evening - a little long, but a fine film, and well-worth the view. Picked it up via a 3/$20 deal at HMV.

Downfall is a great film indeed... I agree that the actor who portrayed Hitler did an excellent job.

Watched X-Men the Last Stand last night. If you are after excellent Video and Audio (especially the DTS track) experience, this movie delivers. IMHO however, the first 2 X-Men movies are better... When you watch this dvd don't forget to check out the scene just after the credits end.

Hostel A little more disturbing than I was expecting (including the acting). Makes me want to stay away from Slovakia for sure. Thanks for the tip cyclo...we watched XMEN The Last Stand the other night and had no idea about the scene after the credits (gives me something to do while digesting turkey tonight).

Bruno Ganz. A fine actor. Can also be seen as Jonathan Harker in Werner Herzog's Nosferatu, as the main angel in Wings of Desire (Wim Wenders) and The American Friend (also Wenders). He also did some very nice stuff on German TV.

cyclo or Big B, could one of you please either post a spoiler or PM me with the details of this scene (which, evidently, I did not watch)? Thanks!

No one has mentioned this before but:

Z Channel: A Magnificent Obsession.

Documentary about the LA movie channel that predated HBO or Showtime. It's main claim to fame was its showing of what was coined Director's Cuts. Also shown were indie and foreign films not shown by any other TV networks in the country. Also most of their audience were big H'wood film directors and actors who were influenced by the channel's movies.

Heaven's Gate and Once Upon a Time in America were panned by critics due to shorter studio cuts. When Z Chan. showed the uncut versions, they were hailed as masterpieces.

I had been to LA a few times and had only heard of Z Channel from TV Guide. I was unaware of what I missed during its heyday from 1981 to 1988.

The movie aired on IFC in May 2005. DVD has been out for a year now.

Now that I have my new TV, I'm getting caught up.

Glory Road......great basketball/race relations movie based on the true story of the first all black basketball team

Poseidon.....pretty predictable and not really worth the rental. Ship sinks, who gets killed and what order is pretty transparent.

Munich.....great movie, a little long and if you dont have an understanding or patience to get thru the politics of the 70's you might not enjoy it. I see why the oscar nominations.

HD DVD version of Grand Prix. Silly movie but incredible racing footage, especially in HD.
