I heard it was a piece of crap compared to the original (just like the recent remake of Flight of the Phoneix). The original is on DVD and it's really cheap (< 12 dollars most places).

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy - Very funny. What you'd think chauvanistic men would have been like when the Women's Lib movement began. Hilarious parts, if you like Will Ferrell. Movie-4/5 Vid-4/5 Sound-3.5/5

Anchorman: Wake-up Ron Burgandy - the filmakers had so much footage, they made a second movie about Ron, and its included in a 2 pack (Wal-Mart, $38). Funny stuff. Some scenes are repeated, using other takes, but has it's own story, not related to the first movie. Movie-5/5 Vid-4/5 Sound-3.5/5

Napoloen Dynamite - High school nerds, this movie is for you. He's a sad guy, who's 'misunderstood' by the rest of the student population. His brother is also a geek, talking on the computer "with hot chicks...all day." Does have a good story attached, and the Napoloen character is absolutly hilarious. Some of his lines are great, and the delivery is equally funny. Movie-4/5 Vid-3.5/5 Sound-3.5/5

2 more good free rentals from the library.

VICTORY: "A Seductive Tale of Passion & Deceit"
starring: Willem Dafoe, Sam Neill, Irene Jacob, Rufus Sewell

It is set in a remote Dutch East Indies seaport.
Dafoe is a bit of a recluse who rescues a beautiful woman.
Excitement ensues!

My wife gave it an 8 out of 10.

MidSomer Murders-Dead Man's Eleven
One episode of a British Detective series.
Our library has about 8 of them.
I would give this one a 6 out of 10.
The most startling part was the actress who played
the part of the rich man's young second wife.
Her name is Felicity Dean and she was a ringer for
Gwyneth Paltrow in this movie.
I knew it wasn't Gwyneth, but couldn't get over the resemblance.
It's surprising that this likeness hasn't been played up in the media.
Anyone heard/seen this actress?
She has been in several movies according to a web search, but I never
was able to find a picture of her.

The Emperor's New Clothes - A "romantic comedy" that provides an alternate explanation of Napoleon's last days. It's not ground-breaking, but it's pleasant and features some lovely Parisian backdrops.

Just finished watching a little gem of a Canadian movie, Luck, a bittersweet tale of longing, and bad choices, set against the 1972 Canada-Russia hockey series. The 70's look of the film is impeccable, the dialogue is bang on, Sarah Polley is radiant. And AA has done a pretty nice job with the dvd. Might not be easy to find, but definitely worth seeking out.

Spider-Man 2. Loved it, definatly lived up to the hype. One of the best in 2004.

Angels in America - Great mini-series. It won a load of Emmy's last year, and they were all well deserved. Excellent stories, descent DVD's. Somewhat front loaded when they could use surrounds, especially during scenes with echos and music. Other than that, great video and sound, but little in the extras department.

I didn't think the Incredibles was going to be released on DVD until February? Can you tell me where to get it sooner?

It comes out around Easter time. I have an Oscar screener copy on loan. on another note, Anchorman is pretty good. Not as good as i expected but still pretty good.

We spent the week-end watching this and while it was interesting
and absorbing, we felt like we had been through the war by the time
it was done.
Amazing actual film footage of the war was included throughout.
The pictures of the prison camps were quite brutal, but I guess not nearly
as bad as being there.
Several story lines were kept going which followed the different theaters of war from America to the Pacific, to Europe, and England.
Quite a bit of a history lesson or reminder/refresher.
I don't think they could ever make such a huge mini-series today as it would be too cost prohibitive.
The old cars, steam trains, and airplanes were great to see again.

The Family Guy Volume Two/Season 3 DVD. I got into it a few weeks ago and bought the DVD yesterday at Costco for $29.99! I'm buying Volume One/Season 1 & 2 this weekend.

Started 'Millennium' Season 2 last night. Enjoyed Season 1, hopefully, this season won't disappoint as well. I've read that a couple of writers with X-Files had a strong influence in the scripts for Season 2 -- so the themes are a touch more (maybe much more?) 'introspective' (getting into Frank's head and thoughts, along with conspiracy stuff re: the Millennium Group, et al) than Season 1. Whatever, good stuff for tv fare!!

Just finished watching Stander, supposedly based on a true story about a disillusioned captain in the South African police department who turns to a life of crime to work out his guilt. The movie kinda devolves in the second half from its political ideals to a fairly standard robbers and cops caper, but it's still a pretty fun ride.

Millennium was a favorite of mine... specially the first 2 or 3 seasons (before Frank's wife departed). I wish they would make another series like it in HD.

The Manchurian Candidate Enjoyed this movie very much. Strong but not incredible performances from Schrieber, Washington, and especially Streep. Have not seen the original, but I don't care to. This was a very good movie, and one I had wanted to see for awhile. Glad I did. 3.5/5
Video: The video was very good. Lots of scenes used red and blue, and alot of red can lead to macroblocking and bleeding, none of which I saw on my screen. 4/5
Audio: The audio track uses the rears quite heavily, like most movies should. During speaches in halls, the sound echoed, as it should, from the surrounds nicely. The war sequences also used the rears nicely. 4/5

The Village Many people didn't like this movie. I LOVED it! Great movie, with a good theme. Another good twist from Shyamalan. Keep making these great movies, and I'll keep buying them! 4/5
Video: good transfer, though it is a little weird to see a movie totally devoid of one color. 3.5/5
Audio: Good use of LFE and surrounds. Clean sounding. Good soundtrack to test out my new receiver on. 4/5.

Heavy - A failed attempt at a slice-of-life tear-jerker about a shy, obese cook at a small diner who falls in love with the newly-hired and lovely young waitress. It has every element you'd expect to find in this type of film...but not a single one works. Even Liv Tyler (as the young waitress) couldn't save it. :(

Adaptation - A bizarre film built upon yet another Charlie Kaufman screenplay. Nicholas Cage does a good job with his dual roles and the layered story is presented well, but the movie isn't quite as interesting as other Kaufman-based films ("Being John Malkovitch", "Confessions of a Dangerous Mind" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind").

Adaption is a good movie. Charlie Kaufman and his "twin" brother both won Oscars for the screenplay.

The Butterfly Effect - despite mixed reviews, here (in a previous thread) and elsewhere, we really enjoyed it. A not too easy to always 'catch the drift' type movie, but worth the effort, and worthy of a second view, and sure better than being 'spoon fed' in more typical Hollywood style all the time. Decent extras, that add to the film. Didn't watch much of the 'infinifilm' stuff, but may during a second viewing some time.
