Pink Floyd--PULSE: awsome concert DVD. I agree with you Filper, the DD 5.1 640 kbps sound was awesome. Too bad the video is 4x3 but the sound makes up for it.

Crash - I don't know what to say about this movie that hasn't been said before. Excellent look at racism and predispositions to people.
This was the directors cut. PQ was great. And the DTS-ES track shook. Great low sound throughout the movie.

The God Who Wasn't There- A 2005 documentary by Brian Flemming...
Bought this last Xmas and thought it was good, but much too short. I think it turned a bit personal towards the end with the school confrontation, but then again it is always a personal experience that leads one towards or away from religion.

I think this could've been merciless, a scathing indictment that nailed it once and for all. But then I wouldn't have a film to make someday, would I? ;)

V for Vendetta

Superb. The parallels to today's society are more than evident, but I think it could be equally applied to any time in history when governments need to be reminded of their place.

"People shouldn't fear their governments. Governments should fear their people."

"...artists use lies to tell the truth while politicians use them to cover it up."

Not without a few faults, but overall a great movie. Highly recommended.

Tsotsi - Last year's Oscar winner for Best Foreign Picture, Tsotsi tells the story of a young thug in the slums of Johannesburg as one of his crimes gone awry helps him discover his own humanity. Well acted, well-made, great soundtrack, nicely-featured dvd.

Ordinary People - 'heavy' family drama, inter-relationship struggles - very well-written and acted (Mary Tyler Moore, Donald Sutherland, Timothy Hutton).
The Spy Who Came in From the Cold - dark & heavy, based on Le Carre novel (Richard Burton).
Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte - twisted & intense (Bette Davis doing her thing with, and against Olivia DeHaviland and Joseph Cotton)

Caught the first two named at a "two for $10" deal at Wal-Mart recently - ouch, what a deal!!

I've seen the last 2. Great flicks. Bette Davis has 2 box sets that are worth checking out.

Is she a genius or is she mad or is she both????

james99 .... we have 'All About Eve' waiting "in the wings" to be watched next ... and then we'll be on to some others. Can't believe I missed so many of her works, but great to play some catch up!!

Re: 'Ordinary People' -- it's a very fine movie, and so well-worth a view. The subject matter - "dysfunctional family stuff" - is not particularly 'fun viewing' for many, but the writing & acting are so well done (by the pros - Mary Tyler Moore and Donald Sutherland, and Timothy Hutton in his first role). Hope you can catch it some time.

Good viewing!!

All About Eve was/is the greatest movie of the 1950's IMHO.

Yeah that 1st Bette Davis set is pretty essential. Dark Victory, Mr. Skeffington and Now, Voyager are classic "weepers" not to be missed.

If you like Hush Hush, Sweet Charlotte, don't miss Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?, found in the 2nd set.

Maybe we need an official "Bette Davis Appreciation Thread".

The Man Who Came to Dinner was probably the best movie in the 2nd set though Baby Jane was very good.

Past few days I've enjoyed watching a couple of recent purchases from Amazon UK:
