Any else see this at home yet? OH MY GOD! This was one of the most captivating movies ive seen in a while. The plot was excellent, the cinematography is fantastic with a true 6.1 DTS soundtrack to go along with it.

The intro was so good I was jsut fixated on the screen, so make sure your seated with no distractions when the movie starts.

"Based on a true story, sort of"

Go rent or buy this movie.

Watched The Island last night starring Ewan McGregor. Apart from the fact the copy only offered English 2.0 and Fench 5.1, my wife and I found it to be a very captivating movie. Sean Bean was excellent as the 'bad' guy (isn't he always).

I F'd up, and bought a PV'd Lord of War with 5.1 only, not knowing there was a DTS-ES 2 disc version available. Looks like I'll be sending that one to the pawn shop and getting the good version.

(Frank Miller's) Sin City - This film adaptation of three of Frank Miller's graphic Sin City novels features a star-studded cast and some fine performances. It was both slick and stylish (in a "1940s detective film" kind of way); unfortunately, the novelty wore out after about an hour, making the second hour a little tedious to watch.

That, and the new special edition SIN CITY only comes with a DD5.1 track, while the original release has a DTS track.

I expect to perk you to also purchase the 'forthcoming' Special Deluxe Collector's Director's DTS ES Remastered Superbit Reference Edition.... until the HD release :).

I recently picked up MIRRORMASK, but haven't had a chance to view it. Dave McKean and Neil Gaiman do some bizarre stuff in this story. I've seen enough clips to get the general idea.

Band of Brothers is the best war series I've ever seen. I have the full DVD set and usually try and watch them once a year. Compelling stories and characters, excellent sound and picture quality.......HBO really outdid themselves with this one. What those soldiers endured in the forests of Bastogne was brutal.

I watched "Million Dollar Baby" on the weekend. I wasn't sure if it would live up to all the hype but wow, did it ever. Swank, Eastwood and Freeman all have a great chemistry together and their acting was superb. I'm not really a fan of boxing but to be honest this isn't really a movie about boxing. It's more about the life struggles we all experience, the ups and downs and the inevitable relationships we form along the way. Definitely Oscar worthy.

Cinderalla Man is a far better Boxing themed movie. Too bad it came out second or it would have had more Oscar nominations. "Baby" was a good movie for the first 90 minutes but the change of direction in story was disappointing.

Cinderella Man is on my ziplist so it will be interesting to see how it compares to MDB. I actually thought the ending was refreshingly un-Hollywood.

Recently watched:

Proof - Anthony Hopkins, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jake Gyllenhaal

Plot Outline: The daughter of a brilliant but mentally disturbed mathematician, recently deceased, tries to come to grips with her possible inheritance: his insanity. Complicating matters are one of her father's ex-students who wants to search through his papers and her estranged sister who shows up to help settle his affairs.

Lord of War - Nicolas Cage, Jared Leto, Bridget Moynahan, Ethan Hawke

Plot Outline: An arms dealer (Cage) confronts the morality of his work as he is being chased by an Interpol agent (Hawke).

and The Constant Gardener (description previously posted).

All I thought were very good. The Constant Gardener being the best, although probably has the least "mass appeal" (I don't expect others to enjoy it as much as I did). The acting in all is top notch, even Nicolas Cage, who I normally have little patience for, was good and at his least annoying.

We watched Walk The Line last night. Enjoyed it, but do have a couple of critical reservations about the movie:

First - we found it a little too 'slick' and 'Hollywood', to look 'real' as a portrayal of Johnny and his life. Wish they could have made everything much more 'grittier' (and much less "slick & sucky") - as we suspect both Johnny, and his life around that time, would 'really' have been.

Second - we thought 'what's his/her name' did fine jobs of acting, and even singing, but really wish the makers of the picture could have seen fit to "voice dub" Johnny's and June's voices. (as done in 'Ray', and several others, etc.) These two were 'ok', but they sure were 'not' the 'real' thing. But maybe Johnny's estate wouldn't permit that to be done?

The movie, as a movie, provided an entertaining view. But in our opinion, it could have been much more. And in our opinion, was certainly not up to the caliber of 'Ray', in its portrayal of the artist(s) involved.

Red Eye - A woman is accosted by a killer on an overnight flight and forced to participate in an assassination plot in exchange for her father's life.

Good flow and pacing, well-developed tension and decent acting: All in all, a promising movie...until the plane lands, the woman escapes to her father's house and the story runs out of steam. The last 15 minutes of this brief (75 minutes) film were very disappointing.

Lord of War - Excellent movie. Had a blast watching it ;) Compelling story. PQ was very good. Audio was excellent (6.1 DTS).

Will be watching Walk the Line before the Oscars, and Crash (On MCHD) Monday probably.

Just watched Domino.

Awsome DTS ES 6.1 track - it took a few minutes to get used to the visuals, specifically the rapid edits. I thought Micky Rourke was awsome. He's definately making a comback with Sin City and this move.
Overall, very cool. I liked Man On Fire, so I gave this movie a shot and it payed off.

Now I'm waiting for Fifth Element SUPERBIT to arrive in the mail!!
