I had the remake of "Phoenix" wasn't that good compared to the original. Then again, the original wasn't great, just above average. That being said, i had a friend who just watched this movie and liked it. So now i'm curious.

I didn't enjoy the remake as much. One of those movies that fades in your memory really fast. Nothing against Dennis Quaid, but he ain't Jimmy Stewart. I think the remake suffered from poor writing more than anything.

Sky Captian and the world of tomorow Good movie for the fact that all of the movie was shot on a green background (key) only the main actors are real. The special effects were very impressive. Plot was good although sometimes a bit broken up. Worth seeing just for the fact that it is all done in a studio with computer graphics. *3 out of 5*
The Incredibles Very very good! so much to pay attention to and a great story line even for adults. The annimation of Pixar just gets better and better each time. Attention to detail was great and the audio was fantastic with great dynamics and souround pans. *4 out of 5*
Back to the future DVD remaster set I just had to go out and buy the remasterd DVD set and watch it again I enjoyed this 3 part series when I was younger and it still was very fun to watch again. Although some of the special effects are a bid dated it still was ahead of its time when first released. Worth seeing again. *3.5 out of 5*
The notebook if anything this movie will try to bring out the tears. A very well told story and enjoyable from start to finish. Not full of action but I did not find myself looking at the clock hoping it would end soon. *3 out of 5*
Radio This is one of my favorite movies of the past year. It is a true story of a mentaly handicaped boy that finds frendship in a couch of a football team and realy gives us a look inside the life of a young man that is able to teach a whol team to respect even love people that have mental dissabilities. Dont miss this one. *4.5 out of 5*

The Longest Yard - What a great flick. Can't wait for the remake. I know it won't be as good, but I still want to see how they do such a classic sports movie. The transfer was actually pretty good, anamorphic WS. Audio was lacking (2.0 mono). I used an all channel stereo, and it seemed to funnel some of the sound to the sub. There is a new release coming for the new movie. I'm guessing it will be the same vid/audio transfer, but who knows. Still, very good, and a funny movie.

What with some of these movies that get re-released on DVD with revamped video but are released with 2.0 or 3.0 sound tracks? Disappointing.

I don't know why they would bother to remaster the DVD and not bother with the audio. The Back to the future DVD set I bought did remaster the audio as well to Dolby digital and it sounded good.

The Italian Job (1969) -- one case where the original movie was definitely (IMHO) inferior to the 'remake' (or 2003 version of same). We wanted to see how it was done with Caine and crew, but now that we've seen it, we can say we much-preferred the updated version for visual fun and excitement. We do like Caine, but even he didn't save the movie!!

The original Italian job wasn't impressive. A little to slapstick.

Rounders - With all the poker hoopla, this re-release may be a bit over exuberant. I will say that I did like this movie before poker was on TV 5 times a week. The commentary with the real poker players is actually fun. They talk about what he should have done, real situations, and of course brag about what they've won. If you like poker, buy this movie.

I really like the original Italian Job. The remake had little to do with Italy.

Heh, the Italian scenary was great, it's the movie that we didn't think was. Even the hyped-up car 'chases' (both pre- and post- getting the gold), IMO, were rather boring, or just silly. I like KinStud's word for the movie -- (a little too) 'slapstick'. That it was, much of the time.

We're about to watch the newer version -- for a second time, but via the dvd release this time, we saw it originally on Movie Central. For us, it'll be interesting to find out if we feel any differently about either movie after this view. But whatever the result, we'll have enjoyed the "ride".

Last movie we watched was Mean Creek. We're moving and have packed everything. (a little pre-mature in my opinion) I'm going through withdrawel. 13 days to go. I have to decide what movie should be the first movie to watch in the new pad. (fully detached so I can crank it up for the first time in 5 years)

I watched Sideways last night and although I thoroughly enjoyed it, I just don't get why it was so award-worthy. It was definitely entertaining, but hardly riviting.

But hey, what do I know :)

We watched Sideways last night too.

A nice scenery of Northern California.

Also watched half of Ocean's 12 and turned it off.

Our Saturday night at the movies was Vera Drake, and we can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this latest Mike Leigh (Director) film -- this guy can sure craft a movie. Incredibly realistic, solid, and moving performances by all concerned ('Vera' was so good, it was hard to believe at times, that one was truly watching a film!!), with fantastic settings and scenes of London in the 50's. We were totally 'drawn into' the movie. Nels Stewart commented on the 'theme' of the movie, so I won't repeat. We would call this a "must see" movie -- even if only just to see that the art of making movies is far from dead. Mike Leigh sure knows how to make a movie!!

Over the last couple months I have watched some TV Box sets.
The Shield - Seasons 1, 2 , 3 - Excellent!
Sopranos - Seasons 1,2,3,4 - Also Excellent!!
24 - Seasons 1,2,3 - Also Excellent!!
Alias - Seasons 1,2,3 - Also Excellent!!

I am just finishing up on The Shield and I am pleasantly surprised at how good that series is.

Dogville - My wife and I gave up on this "art" film after a record time of only 10 minutes. We just couldn't take the achingly dull pacing and excessive narration. Perhaps we're missing out on something - although, having read some reviews (which we probably should have read before renting the movie), that doesn't appear to be the case.

Ocean's 12 was average and that's being kind.

Just finished a triple bill of Super Size Me, Fahrenheit 9/11, and The Corporation. I think I will now go hide in a cave until civilization collapses.
