No company is obligated to refund any difference in price if a item goes on sale the near future.

That's not true. ANY customer purchase can be returned within 2 weeks time regardless of what the company "policy" is. It's a LAW. In fact, most shops advertise it as "price protection", but it really is a law in place for the customer.

I am not talking about returns for refund or store credit. I am talking about someone buying something at a specific price and the next day it goes on sale. That same person goes in to the store and gets a refund of the price difference. No company is obligated to give a refund with just the receipt.

Of course, the customer could always bring back the item and then buy the item again at the cheaper price.

If it goes on sale the next day it would fall under the 2 week timeframe, wouldn't it? If they won't refund the difference, you return it, simple as that and buy it at the lower price. How does your scenario differ in any way???

you don't understand

There is no law that states a company must price match any item that goes on sale even if it is a day before the sale starts. If a company has a policy that price match guarantee, that is their own company policy.

Return for a refund so that you buy it again at a cheaper price is just a work around when companies who don't price match their prices.

Think of this way, you can't go into the grocery store and buy a bunch of bananas at 1.99 a pound on the last day of the flyer. The next day which is the first day of the flyer, the price for the bananas is now .99 a pound. You can't go back to the grocery store and get a price refund for the difference. You can go back to the grocery store, return the bananas for a full refund and then go and buy a new bunch of bananas at the lower price. Even though both do the same thing, that is how some companies work.

I have had Shaw cable for 23 years, digital since it came out. I finally upgraded to the HD PVR. 2 weeks later the box went on sale for $150 off. I called in to Shaw to seek a refund on the difference. I was told in round about way too bad , so sad. I wish I hadn't invested in the equipment. I hear there is a swap program with Bell and Telus.
blue there is a 30 day money back gaurentee on the HD PVR. If you call back and talk with a supervisor they should definitely be able to approve applying the credit to your account. I have done this myself for a customer. If they do not approve it and you are still under the 30 day return then I would suggest taking the DCT back and then turn around and buy a new one again at the reduced rate.

So I called last month to remove the movie channels from my account since I found I wasn't watching them and I might as well save some money. I was just about to pay my bill for this month and to my surprise, my bill actually WENT UP! Looking at the details, for the same day I removed the movie channels there is a $29.95 "transaction fee". I just got off the phone and the guy said whoever did the change forgot to remove the charge so he adjusted it. I'm just glad I don't have an automatic payment set up or I might not have noticed.

are shaw customer reps allow to go through customer records without the customers consent?

I just found out that a friend who recently started working at shaw customer services was going through all her friends and relatives accounts.
"out of boredom"
is that even legal?

Are you thinking of the 10 day cooling off period for door-to-door sales?

newfbc and CenterIce: I think shollywood just got confused between a full refund and getting a partial refund due to price matching. Full refund is a law. Price matching is not.

There's no law that a store has to give a refund on a sale. Period.

That is correct. Some stores will give a refund as a courtesy to retain customers but in no way are they required to by law.

I'm referring to caveat emptor. No one is required by law to give a refund for anything, any time, any price, sale or not.

you never mentioned did you buy the box direct from Shaw or at a Retail store like Bestbuy. If you bought the box at a retailer you would need to seek a price adjustment from them, not Shaw. If you bought it from Shaw directly they should have honoured the price for 30 days from when you purchased it.

I am not a lawyer, but retail purchases are covered by the Sale of Goods Act, which is part of contract law. The goods must be suitable for the purpose for which they are sold or the buyer has remedies under the law, i.e. a refund.

Am I the only who frustrated to no end with Shaw Cable?

Each time I go back east to visit my parents, I fume to see they pay $26.95 a month to get ALL of the following: NHL Centre Ice, NFL Ticket, MLB Extra Inning, NBA Pass, Nascar, In-Car, College AND Basketball package and the OHL.
Shaw graciously offers me the NFL Ticket ALONE for $44.99 a month, pure nonsense and the CRTC does not deal with any of this. :(

I know the odds of ever getting it is next to impossible but since I am stuck with Shaw at my condo, I will try.

Thanks
