Why would you say there was a problem with the feed? That is not the what I was told by customer service. In fact the feed was great, we never had a problem with the feed, but I have noticed the feed from Detroit is not as good as Buffalo. I think it is all about profit for Shaw and taking away choice for the consumer. Consumer looses again!!!
Bk1 Heres what I would do. First i would get a good quality antenna, indoor one might work if your close enough to Buffalo, this would allow you to pick up buffalo OTA as long as you have a new tv with ATSC tuner other wise a quick trip across the border to pick one up would be required. Then i would call SC and tell them to cancell your service, since you feel you are paying for something you dont want, then try to hook up with a different provider. This is the only way the customer wins in these kind of situations. I will say this though its hard to make every body happy, if they took away Detroit people would complain about that, so these are probably your options like it or not, but at least with the antenna option you would get the local Buffalo news.

it has a code that can remove the TV control for the volume and so that it allows you to control the volume for the box which can then be used to Mute for the box.

Did you push the cbl button on the remote first and then try using the remote buttons. If you push tv it might control the tv but not the remote functions for the cable box.

the first year I had HD (last year) they kept adding channels. Channels I totally didn't want like golf channel, the frame, big 10, but at least they were adding channels.

It seems like forever since we've had any additions to the lineup.

They had 10 channel reserved for centre ice/sunday ticket, and I think the most I saw of those channels use simutaneously was about 5 (they might only be using them at 2channels/qam as well because the quality of the HD on them was top notch).

they've got about 10 ppv channels in HD, I saw cut that down to 5.

They'res room for 10 more channels. I think channels alot of people want are CNN HD, The Score HD, Spike HD, NHL HD? it'd be nice to get some progress on it.

Shaw has the biggest percentage in HD subscribers 2.3 million yet we also get the worst HD programming thats great.

Incorrect - only 23% of 2.1m Shaw Cable subscribers have HD. It's Shaw Communications that has the largest # of HD subs because Shaw Direct numbers are included (33% of .9m)

maybe its just me but i am sick of americans getting cool stuff like the AT&T u-verse.

U-verse is a VDSL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VDSL) service operated by AT&T (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT%26T). It provides internet access (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_access) up to 18Mbit/s along with phone and television services. Total bandwidth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bandwidth) is 20-25Mbit/s dependent on the distance from the neighborhood fiber gateway.

Total Home DVR

Total Home DVR is a DVR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_video_recorder) service that can record four standard definition or two high definition video streams at once and play them back on any TV connected to U-verse via a set-top box. The DVR can be programmed to record from the on-screen menu or any internet connection using AT&T's website

it seems like with the amount we pay per month we should be able to upgrade these systems instead we are stuck with old technology and paying through the roof for it.

as for hdtv stations the US has hundreds of stations but the damn crtc won't let us see em because theres no canadian content on them. the crtc should start listening to the canadian people cause with all their regulations and stuff(not just tv i mean radio, cell phones, telephones, etc) they are starting to look communist to me.
Wow. Do you really need to record 4 shows (2 HD and 2 SD) at once? It will come. Stop whining. Do you realize that US cable subscribers completely outnumber us? Of course they have more channels and better services than we do. They have almost twice the amount (http://www.ncta.com/Stats/BasicCableSubscribers.aspx) of Canada's population as customers.

Not to change the topic or anything, but since this is the 'Shaw Customer Service' thread, I thought I would share a recent experience:

A week and a half ago, my house was hit by lightening while I was not home. When I arrived home, I noticed my Aspen PVR was making a loud 'fan' noise and there were no lights of any kind lit on the front panel. I figured the power had probably gone out due to the lightening storm that had just passed through but this unit is connected to a UPS and should have been fine. Also, none of the usual clocks were blinking(microwave, stove, etc.). I decided to just unplug the Aspen and it powered up just fine when I plugged it back in. Fan noise returned to normal too. Then I couldn't access the internet so I did a power cycle on the routers and Shaw modem (this usually solves the problem). Still no joy. I had to go out for a meeting and when I returned home, I noticed some burn marks on the ceiling panels of my front porch. Then I noticed some black scorch marks around the top corner of the door frame. I immediately recognized this to be lightening damage but thought it was probably the 'out' marks and would have to locate the 'in' point. I figured 'now I know why things weren't working the way they should'.

It turns out there must have been a sympathetic current produced in the wiring inside my house as three computers that were all connected to my LAN received blown network adapters. This included my laptop and it even took out the built in wireless cad too. Also, my battery will either not hold a charge or is just not charging correctly as I only get 10-20minutes of life out of it now.

Now to the 'Shaw Customer Service' part of the story: I called Shaw to ask them if they could test the modem from their end and they said it appeared fine. All the lights on my end looked good too but I still couldn't connect, even when plugged directly into to modem with a laptop that had not been connected to anything at the time of the lightening hit. The tech said the modem's ethernet port sometimes does not work following a lightening strike despite the fact that the modem reports everything is fine. He sent a 'reboot' command and the unit never did do a reboot so he said I should just bring it in for an over the counter replacement, no charge. I thought this was pretty good considering it wasn't his fault my house was hit by lightening.

A couple of days later, I noticed my DCT6200 was 'dead' too. It's connected to my HTPC project and doesn't get much use. I called Shaw again to ask if it is covered by their warranty or if I will need to include it in my home insurance claim. They are happy to send a tech with a replacement unit the next day. The tech was to check the grounding and signals. Sure enough, the tech shows up, early to boot, and with a BNIB 6200, not a refurb. He checked the lines and signal and everything seemed fine so, after activating the replacement box, he was on his way.

I have had my issues with Shaw and their HD system problems but I do have to say their customer service can be truly 'pain free' at times.

Here's a link to some photo's of the aftermath.

The 'in' point was found later at the peak of the roof on the back of the house. The really strange thing is both houses on either side of mine are much higher. Should I be buying lotto tickets?

I have had Shaw cable for 23 years, digital since it came out. I finally upgraded to the HD PVR. 2 weeks later the box went on sale for $150 off. I called in to Shaw to seek a refund on the difference. I was told in round about way too bad , so sad. I wish I hadn't invested in the equipment. I hear there is a swap program with Bell and Telus.
