: Shaw Customer Service - good and bad - post comments here
Gord Lacey 2007-01-15, 07:50 PM Those lovely Shaw idiots have removed my HD Plus package, even though I purposely signed up for it back in December to avoid this issue! At the time I made it very clear to the person that I wanted to sign up for it to avoid being deactivated when the free preview ended.

I procrastinated signing up for HD Plus, and when I noticed my channels disappeared, it only took me 2 minutes to re-order them over their website....it was no big deal.
spitoon 2007-01-15, 11:52 PM I was away last week, and when I got back I realized that my HDPlus channels were gone as well. I re-enabled them with a phone call...while I was holding for about 1/2 hour, it dawned on me that I could probably do it through the website...duh!
I suppose that's the only way they could do it really...they couldn't just leave them on and start billing people for them...although, in your case Gord, they should have figured it out.
Gord Lacey 2007-01-16, 01:56 PM The guy was at a loss as to why it was taken off my account - he read the very clear notes that the previous person left.
I guess I could have gone through the website to have it added, but I wanted to know if there was a bigger issue with my account since I shouldn't have been deactivated in the first place.

ctown6412 2007-01-16, 03:54 PM After replacing 5 dct 6412's and me calling with issues again the tech said
that them replacing the box will not fix the issues, as " there are several known issues with the 6412 and 6416 that motorola are working on" "we have no control over the issues so we can not fix the problems untill Motorola provides us with a fix"
Several of my issues they know are there but they CAN NOT FIX it untill Motorola fixes it. "this can take a long time"
Issues that I have continued to experience
muting when fast forwarding( shaws fix is to stop the playback then replay the recording) I only have to do this after EVERY commercial break!
hd audio proplems( serious random distortion)
phantom recordings
saved and locked recodings being over written with random shows(name stays correct but recorded show is changed)
and 1 min scheduled recordings that shoud be an hour long stop at 1 min then some how later on become the full hour recording
I was so fed up with the crap hardware that I asked about a refund and they will buy back the dct for $398"depending on the condition" mine is a few days old after the last swap.
I have now dropped shaw and have switched to bell for my HD,
My internet is with CIA so I am finally SHAW FREE!
ctown6412, your subject was false. Shaw did not admit prolbems rather One tech disagreed with 5 others. He may be correct but it was hardly an admission by the company or proof!
It wouldn't be the first time techs disputed what other techs had said!
faston 2007-01-16, 05:03 PM Ctown:
Wow, that is an ugly list of problems. I know it won't make you feel any better, but in my 2 1/2 years with first a 6208 and then a 6412 I have never experienced even one of those problems. Still on the first 6412 that I upgraded to. The one that puzzles me the most is the fast-forwarding issue. I don't FF very often (use the 30 second skip for commercials), except during football games to get through the half-time shows and it has never muted on me, not even once.
I hope you are luckier with BEV.
ctown6412 2007-01-16, 05:27 PM I guess a better wording for the subject might have been
"Shaw CRS admitts issues with the 6412, confirmed from his internal company resouces"
Yes Hugh, you are correct it is not proof as with any company as large and powerfull as shaw unless THEY put it in writting for the the general public to see then there is no proof. But for me when a representative of a company says "we know" this is a problem that is proof enough for me.
The csr was quoting lines from their internal bullitin board my assumption was it was thier bullitin board of know issues, I could hear a second party talking and directing him to areas of the board. He was constantly saying let me "ask my supervisor" or let me "check the bullitin board" . Maybe he was reading the 100's of posts of issues here or at other sites I dont know 100%
Sure the one CSR is not "Shaw" but he and every other csr does represent the company as do every other employie that is part of a company, without emplyies there is no company!
After bring up these issues I was just suprised that they finally agreed to buy back the machine, I have been asking for a buy back or refund since the 2nd month that I had problems with my first hdpvr from them. I have even sent in written requests to this matter, and all that has ever happend was a phone call and refunds to my account for lsot useage time.
Many of us that have dealt with shaw csr's know all to well how uninformed, and untraind SOME can be. "It wouldn't be the first time techs disputed what other techs had said!"
Man after writting all this and reading it back I must say I do sound a bit put off with shaw and I am. I've gotten a pretty good insite into shaw over the years not only as a client but with several friends that worked internally there in serveral differnent departments. I have even let "them" use my house and myself in commercials.
If anyone takes offence to this rant or my pervious post I do say im sorry but this is how jilted shaw's service has made me feel over the years.
Just another post to be lost in ever growing good and bad thread.
ctown6412 2007-01-16, 05:35 PM Faston,
The FFD issue happens when I am recording 2 shows at the same time as watching a playback, I use my pvr with 95% hd content.
My next door neighbor and my boss both have this exact same issue too, but i am unsure as to what exactly they record. Its likely either a basic software issue or it is a limitation of the hardware not able to do all the hd processing that is required by the recording and playbacks at the same time.
Ps my unit was a 6412 phase 3, I also watch on a 120" screen and some my past issues were fluctuating video quality issues.
I think the first issue that I ever had was a hard drive that sounded like it was made with rusty bearings( it was REALLY loud)
couchpotatoe 2007-01-16, 08:35 PM I have the same FF audio drop on my newish 6416, had it on my other 6412 phIIIs as well. Its probably the same for everyone with the same firmware/software.
For me its if I am recordeing any channel, HD or SD, and am watching another recording, don't matter again if its a HD or SD recording I watch. If I am watching a program and during that time a recording ends, I get the no audio problem as soon as I either Pause or FF the program I am watching, only for the first time after the other recording finished. And I am also certain it does it the same if it starts a scheduled recording whilst I am watching another recording. I know its a software bug everyone seems to mention a lot.
spitoon 2007-01-17, 11:22 AM A quicker fix for that is to simply mute/unmute the STB...that way you don't have to stop and restart your program.
ctown6412 2007-01-17, 02:29 PM the mute button has no effect when this happens, or not atleast on my last 3units.
Extreme 2007-01-17, 03:20 PM I get the audio drops all too often as well but i havent taken notice as to weather or not a program was recording or not at the time.
But what works best for me to fix it is to press the previous/last button 2x. once to leave the recording and the second time to get back.
ctown6412 2007-01-17, 03:27 PM I came up with an even easier solution, I have sold my DCT and cancelled shaw. But now that I have done so Id bet that they should have it fixed within days. Murphys law
Gord Lacey 2007-01-17, 07:44 PM There's an unmute code that can be assigned to your remote. I remember seeing the instructions here, though it was awhile ago and I don't recall what they were.
When you press the Unmute button (after coding it in) you'll see "MUTE" at the top of your screen - pressing it again will remove it. It's some kind of internal muting, and this button fixes it. Instructions may be in the Motorola 6000 discussion area.
EDIT: I found the information after searching on Google. Hopefully this works for you:
1)Press the "Cable" button on the Remote
2)Press & Hold "Setup" until the "Cable" button blinks twice
3)Enter Code 994
4)Press "Setup" button
5)Enter code 00141
6)Hit whatever button you want to enable "mute" while using the cable box. (probably best to assign it to one of the A,B,C buttons)

technut 2007-01-18, 12:31 AM Mute/unmute using the PVR code doesn't solve the problem for me. I've tried it a few times. That mute function fixes the PVR being muted after turning itself on for a recording, but not this issue where you lose sound after FF or skipping through a recording.
Gord Lacey 2007-01-18, 02:10 AM Weird, that's the code I use when I have the same problem. I usually have to press it two or three times to get it working, but if it doesn't work for you then I don't know what to suggest.
Gord
spitoon 2007-01-18, 11:44 AM It has always worked for me too...not sure what else to suggest. I know I've seen that issue when I press "Skip" multiple times.
technut 2007-01-19, 01:12 AM But what works best for me to fix it is to press the previous/last button 2x. once to leave the recording and the second time to get back. For me too.
spitoon 2007-01-26, 10:12 PM Did anyone notice the digital message regarding the Shaw customer service survey?
You can access the survey on the main shaw page in the lower right corner. Here is your chance to let Shaw know what you think.
