: How to properly align your satellite dish - Discussion and Tips
cwilkinson85 2011-01-18, 10:45 AM Could anyone post me a link for a diagram of where to mount the sw21's to the dish, I just want to see what Im doing before I go shovel my roof off!!!
Thanks for the help Pinza I got 91 up and running beautifully!
Pinza 2011-01-18, 12:56 PM Bell supply a bracket to the Techs, so without it, most people just use electrical tape or tywraps and fasten it to the Mast.
cwilkinson85 2011-01-18, 02:18 PM Ok so now that 91 is locked in, I theoretically should just put the other LNB on Disconnect the two cables from the 91 put 4 short cables onthen from each LNB run one line in to each sw 21 then re-attach the 2 existing cables into the house correct? I dont need to re-point or re-align or anything?
Pinza 2011-01-18, 02:33 PM No, that is exactly how it 'should' work.......
I use Dish 1 for 91 and Dish 2 for 82, just for future troubleshooting buut it really does not matter.
taxtwit 2011-01-19, 01:45 PM Wonder why my elevation is set to 31.5 instead of 27.5? So if I have my sat 82 set to 95% then your saying that 91 will be just to the right, and don't touch scew or elevation after I have found 82 even though my elevation is off?
I've always found the elevation numbers in the Bell installation guide to bear no relationship whatsoever to the elevation I actually set the dish to, based on the elevation scale on the dish. Part of the problem is that the nut that you loosen and tighten to adjust elevation covers at least 8 degrees of elevation, depending on whether you're supposed to read the scale from the bottom, middle or top of the nut.
As for the goofy protractor thingy the installation guide suggests you make to try to find out whether a particular location has a line of site to the satellite, forget it - all that I accomplished when I tried using that thingy the first time I aimed a dish was to waste a good 4 or 5 hours installing a dish at a location the thingy said I'd have line of site, when I didn't.
Another elevation issue for we westerners is that the elevation is so low, a properly aimed dish almost looks like it's aiming at or even below the horizon. The combination of the mysterious elevation scale on the dish and the vague notion that the dish has to be aimed up at the sky make elevation the trickiest component of the three (skew, pan, elevation) to lock in, especially out west.
Two tips: (1) drive around the neighbourhood with binoculars :o and find another Bell dish and look at the elevation setting on the dish by looking at where (for e.g.) the bottom of the elevation adjustment "nut" is - once you find this, set your elevation the same way, even if it is out of whack relative to what the installation guide says; and (2) once you have some signal, don't forget to fine tune the elevation by moving the dish up and down until the signal peaks.
cjeepers 2011-02-06, 04:45 PM I am working in northern Alberta, I am attempting to tune in to bell tv 91 but all I can find is Nimiq 82, shoud I point east, west, up or down, I dont have a compass

cjeepers 2011-02-06, 05:10 PM that worked fine I found nimiq 91 right where you said, I am attempting to tune in Bell tv 91 for the past 4 hrs Bell 4700 reciever. Nimiq 91 gives me no channels, any advice??
Pinza 2011-02-06, 06:06 PM Is it subscribed.?
Correct Smart Card.?
Did you run a Check Switch.?
Even without subscription you should still get Ch#198.
Will-Sandy 2011-02-24, 05:56 PM We have a problem we have had our bell satellite system now for three years we used to have satellite 91 and 82 now we have only 82, they a signal test and on 82 at a 100 % did a switch box test and have to XX under 91 what to do now help
Pinza 2011-02-24, 06:34 PM I would start by swapping over the LNBF's, see if you still get 82. If you do, then you have proved the problem is NOT with the LNBF, so you wil have to start checking Cables/Connectors etc.
What switch do you have installed, SW21's or an SW44.?
Will-Sandy 2011-02-25, 07:20 AM We had the system installed for us so I do not know what they installed, how would I tell, also how do you swap LNBF's
Connections are good
yellow_boss 2011-03-15, 08:42 PM I just upgraded to DP Quad LNB with two feeds to DP34 (#1). The DP34 (#1) is feeding 1 x 3100, 2 x 6100, and a 9241. All is fine on the 3100s but the 9241 is not getting sat 82 all of a sudden when earlier it was fine.
The second pair of LNB feeds from the Quad are feeding another DP34 (#2) which is feeding 2 more 3100, both working fine.
I cannot figure out why the 9241 is not getting sat 82 while the 6100s on the same DP34 switch are. I swapped cables out and no success.
Any advice?
Costa 2011-03-15, 09:15 PM Whats your signal on 82? on the 3100.
Pinza 2011-03-15, 10:32 PM I would try the 6100 on each port just to double check the outputs, then try again using the cables attached to the 9241, if both those work it must be a problem with the 9241 itself.
Do you have the problem with both Tuners.?
Does the 9241 work if it is the only receiver connected to the switch.?
Does the 9241 work if you connect it directly to the inputs from the LNBF.?
yellow_boss 2011-03-16, 06:00 AM It's now working. Last thing I did before turning in last night was unplug the 9241 figuring what could it hurt. This morning, I plugged it back, ran check swtich, and now all is fine - 82 locked in no problem.
Thanks for the replies.
RudeBoy16 2011-03-21, 11:32 PM I have a 6131 bell set up in Mesa Arizona I was just running a single lnb dish with no problems and changed to the dual lnb dish on a tipod. I could not get and signal and when i rehook to the dish on the roof i get no signal do i need to find 82 or 91 to just get my single lnb back working the roof dish has not moved could my reciever be hung up I have tried unpluging but still no signal
thanks
Rob:(
Installer 2011-03-22, 06:15 AM when you hooked up the second dish for 82/91 you must have done a "check switch" did you also do this when you switched back to the single dish?
unless you moved the dish you should be good to go.
RudeBoy16 2011-03-22, 10:02 AM when i run test switch its says i am running a sw44 switch i was running a sw21 when i tried to hook upthe hd and when i switched back to the single dish i had no switch but check switch still said i was running a sw44 switch
taxtwit 2011-03-22, 01:50 PM You aren't likely to get any 82 signal at all in Mesa, Arizona, so not sure why you'd bother changing to a dual LNB dish.
