eg.

satellite 91 X
transponder ok X

it also says im missing port 2 odd and even

colts 18 416 , if you give your approximate location I will give you what your dish settings should be set at. Your dish could be incorrectly set for receiving two satellites.

it is 120km east of edmonton, alberta

Run "check switch" to see if it clears it up.

Gents,

Have done everything that everyone has suggested, twice. Signal strength of 84% on Sat 91, but can't find 82.

Lots of tree work to pick our way through, I assume that being the issue.

Would I be correct in thinking that the beam/signal has a smaller footprint? I tried as someone suggested, picking up 82 on it's own, but no joy.

Thx.

The footprint of both 91 & 82 covers the entire country.

Is there no way you can re-locate the Dish .?

Okay, I just installed 3 dishes and receivers, no problem. On my last attempt I am using an older model (5800) I have the dish up, it has the dual LNB attachment on it, but I am only using one LNB (the 91) as this model doesnt receive HD content anyways. From that 91LNB there are two cables entering the house, from that point I have only one of them running directly to the receiver. I cant find any signal at all from either 91 or 82, even though I only need 91.

The only signal I am picking up is an incorrect satellite located almost due south and at an angle of 41-42 degrees.

Am I doing something wrong with this install? The other installs were a snap, and two of them were HD receivers and one HD PVR receiver. Should I remove the dual LNB attachment and put the 91 right on the mast arm? Any info into this matter would be greatly appreciated...

BTW, I am located close to Detroit Michigan in Windsor Ontario, my co-ordinates that I should be using according to the calculators is: 40.4 elevation and around 190 azimuth. My mast is perfectly plumb as well as that makes the whole install much faster, usually.

Does it indicate which satellite it has found, even though it says it is the wrong one?

Don't forget dosborne, if it is a new receiver, the software they ship with will still say "Wrong Sat" even on 91 degrees, until you download the Bell Software.

I would suggest using a working Bell receiver, with upto date software to see which bird you are hitting, then adjust the Dish accordingly.

Just a bit of background:

I live in Edmonton, Ab, I moved into a house and there was a starchoice dish wired up with three coaxs. I bought barely used 6131 receiver and a brand new 20" dish (w/ single LNB). Mounted up the dish with the LNB in the 91 slot, and in an effort to decifer which cables went to where in the house, i hooked up both ports 1&2 to two unknown coaxs. There is also no switch hooked up. Since i dont have an hdtv, i just want to lock 91 and be done with it.

I'm using a buddy's satellite signal finder, and ive been able to locate 82 at 100% at about ~133 azimuth but its missing on some transponders. But i can't, for the life of me, find any trace of 91. I set the elevation from 24 to 30 and scanned due east to due south. Ive been able to find that american one 110 something but seriously no 91 at all. Another funny thing is, when i find the 82 at 100% and i have it set to find 82, if i then set it to find 91, it wont even show up with 82 as 100% but wrong satellite it just shows nothing. I also cant be certain which port on the LNB is providing the signal.

Am i able to locate it with this setup or do i need the two lnbs and a switch (because of the receiver being used)? Does the port on the lnb matter? Do i need a signal booster?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Can't figure this one out.

Well if you are getting 82 on the 91 LNBF, you need to be down and slightly Right, from behind the Dish. Maybe 1/8" or so to the right, on the mast rotation.

Your setup is ideal for aiming, adding a switch will make it harder.

Often, since the 2 sats are so close together, one drownsout the other. Connecting a receiver and running the check switch option could possibly resolve it without much further effort although as Pinza states, you are very close. Follow the directions in this thread. Put the LNB in the 91 slot and bypass all switches. see if you can find 91. You are close, so it won't be far from the current position.

The thing is i DO have it in the 91 slot and i am NOT running a switch. Its seriously like 91 doesnt exist for me for some reason. Is there any way you can get it to ignore 82?

You cannot ignore a Satelitte.

Apart from a Line Of Sight issue, all I can say is just keep trying.

I just had another idea.

Why not move the Cable over to the LNBF in the 82 Degree slot, then when you hit 82, providing your skew is set correctly, you should automatically have 91......

Thats a good idea. I was trying to set it with no skew however. Ill give that a shot. Thanks man.

You should always set the skew for your location first.

Even though you do not have a switch, run the check switch test.
