Did you know that you can Recycle rechargeable batteries?

To find the nearest location where you can take your dead rechargeable batteries click here (http://www.rbrc.org/consumer/clocate.html). For most Canadians you'll find a retail store nearby that will take your dead batteries so I encourage you to do so since batteries contain many toxic chemicals.

Unfortunately no network appears to exist for recycling single use batteries or that will take back single use batteries for proper disposal.

In Toronto, the only place that I could find was the hazardous materials drop off centers owned by the city. What they do with them is unknow and unfortunately the drop off locations are iconvenient and only open for limited times.

What I'd like members to do is to post places that will take dead single use batteries and properly dispose of them.

Oakville - Hwy 25 disposal site has facilities for all toxic types of disposal paint, batteries, cleaners, acids etc.

It was free last time I went.

I believe any Radio Shack will take them. I usally save about a year or two worth and drop them off at Yonge & Eglinton RS.

Radio Shack and The Source take any (small) batteries as far as I know.

In Durham Region (Ontario) I use the hazardous waste depot on Ritson North in Oshawa. I find their hours are quite good and there's no fee. I just collect them in a small plastic bin until I'm heading in that direction. They rarely leak so there's no mess.

At work, we have a recycling bin for all types of batteries.

I would not want to be seen as criticizing the administrator or monitors, but why is a discussion of the disposal of single use batteries in the high speed internet service providers forum?

I just checked and there have been no "moves" of this thread. Since Hugh put it here, it must have been his "wisdom". ;) Perhaps I'll find a more suitable forum.

We have several battery recycling containers in our office.

I just bring mine in from home for disposal.

One thing to be aware of when "saving" batteries at home for recycle. Do not simply through them in a container letting the contacts short. This could cause a fire, or chemical leakage.
