: LG DU-42PX12X Plasma
seanhs 2006-01-04, 01:25 PM I hooked up this tv yesterday and watched the Canadian Junior game, i have to say i was stunned at the quality. I hadn't really seen a good HD picture before, but this was AMAZING. The picture was great colors, and a very smooth picture. I haven't got a chance to tweek the picture with my DVE dvd, so hopefully it'll get even better (which is hard to believe). A great price if you got it on boxing week special at visions for $2500... My only minor compalint is only 1 dvi input (and not hdmi) but not that big of a deal at all. A+
seanhs 2006-02-01, 06:24 PM Just wondering if anyone has noticed any posterizing (blotchey colors in parts of the picture where there should be a smooth gradient, ie faces, walls etc). I have started to notice this now and it is bother me.
The other thing I was wondering is, is this set supposed to make a nosie? There is now quite an audible buzz comming from the back of the set, not sure if I just didn't notice it before, or if it recently started.
Any input would be great. thanks!
intrac 2006-02-01, 07:35 PM I don't see the problem you are having. I ran the DVE DVD shortly after I got the set, and it made a difference in all the non HD settings. The adjustments have to be made in all the formats -- DVI, Video 1, 2, CATV, etc.
I don't hear anything at the back of my set.

You could be hearing the cooling fan. IME, it's not disturbing provided the sound of your system is not muted.
intrac 2006-02-06, 02:39 PM The posterizing is caused by your contrast setting being too high.
seanhs 2006-02-14, 01:22 PM adjusted the contrast settings and it is still a problem. Does anyone who has this set notice the posterization in 24? w/ BEV?? Thanks.

What are your other settings at?
All of mine are around 50%.
seanhs 2006-02-15, 01:42 PM I just had it ISF Calibrated, so all the settings are fine, all around 50-60 i believe. I do hear a noise comming from the back, shouldn't it be qite, although i doubt that it would be because of that... should it be silent, i thought this model did not have a fan?

I have to put my ear up to the set's rear, before I hear anything like a slight buzz which is from the power supply.
This set, as far as I know, does not have a fan.
Did the ISF calibration setting get rid of the "clay face"effect on some 480 i/p pictures. I used DVE.
I've got a 42PX4D model that I bought in January.
It had a terrible buzzing noise coming from the back....so bad that I returned it.
The replacement also has a buzzing noise.
This noise changes in intensity depending on what color is on the screen. If it is dark, then it becomes more quiet. When the color is bright, especially white, then the buzzing gets loud.
Even with the volume up to 35%, I can still hear the buzzing.
Pretty annoying when watching something like hockey or skiing, with lots of white on the screen.
Anyone know what this could be?
OK, I went into the video menu and discovered that the contrast stteing was over 90% !
Turning it back down to 50% reduced the buzzing noticeably.
I still wonder why?
Neild 2006-03-20, 05:50 PM Should start a new thread about the buzzing on 42PX4D. I'd read that somewhere else before.
Regarding the 42PX12X, it does have a fan, it probably gets noiser over time with dust build-up and all.
Neild 2006-03-20, 05:52 PM Answering another (old) question:
Which looks better, 1080i or 720p?
In my experience, each looks better depending on the source.
For most network broadcasts that are 1080i, I find 1080i looks maybe a touch better.
For ABC-HD however, which is broadcast in 720p, there are times it can look really bad in 1080i. Switching to 720p clears it right away.
Neild 2006-03-20, 05:58 PM Question regarding blotchy colors....
Is this the 'clayface' effect? (Where an area that should be smooth range of blues or reds is instead represented by 2 or 3 steps of that color)
If that's what you mean, there can be many causes, some of them curable, some of them not.
One of the easiest seems to be to make sure you have decent cabling. I saw once where this effect was cleared up by switching from poor really long cables to higher quality short ones.
Another is to fiddle with the settings, especially contrast and brightness. Turning XD off can help reduce the effect, although you lose some of the dark contrast then.
What is your source? Lower grade sources can be more susceptible to this because they don't have as great a range of colors in the signal to begin with.
Also, check your viewing situation and range. Clayface up close (2 feet) or in a very dark room can sometimes be minimized by adding some ambient light to the room or moving back a touch. Granted, that's not a pure fix, but it can be a decent workaround.
shauncaldwell 2006-12-19, 11:35 PM No Signal - Has anyone had problems with their DVI connection on this set? It is very common for me to put a DVD into my player (LG DV7832) and get a 'No Signal' error on the screen and occassionally a green and white screen...if I use my remote to cycle through the DVI/Component1&2/RGB inputs a couple of times, the picture will appear (usually when I cycle through DVI twice). Very wierd...wondering if it my TV or my DVD Player.
intrac 2006-12-21, 12:31 PM I've only had an issue when using the Rogers SA3250HD box. The box has a DVI connection and I get a momentary HDCP message. It appears that Rogers has still not implemented the latest software.
I don't get a problem when connected with my SAT receiver's HDMI output connected via HDMi/DVI adapter.
