Does anybody know if the Calder Cup Final is going to be shown by any of The Canadian Networks? The final is between the Toronto Marlies and the Norfolk Admirals. The first game is on Friday June 1st.

Leafs TV probably. Maybe NHL Network?

Lets hope it is not Leafs TV its available where I live but it would mean an additional charge. Leafs TV is only available in part of Ontario.

According to the Norfolk Admirals website Every game will be broadcast locally on 102.1-FM and 1490-AM, as well as on the worldwide web at 1021TheGame.com. In addition, fans can watch every game on a pay-per-view basis online through AHLLive.com.

The Toronto Marlies website doesn't list any information that I can find about the finals being on TV. A look at the Rogers IPG shows LeafsTV airing Game 1 on tape-delay Saturday morning starting at 3am-5:30am. The game isn't listed for Rogers local TV, Sportsnet (regional or national), TSN 1/2, The Score or NHL Network (Canada), nor is it listed on RDS 1/2/I or TVA Sports.

Also, CFMJ (AM640 Toronto) has Game 1 of the series listed on their schedule for radio. No pre or post game show with Andy Frost though.

With that said, I have a feeling The AHL is probably trying to sell the TV rights to one of those entities right now. Last year when the B-Sens were in the finals Sportsnet picked the games up on Sportsnet Sens, but only Game 3-7. But looking at TSN's schedule, they can't fit the first two games in as they have NBA Finals and French Open coverage. Sportsnet has Blue Jays and UFC on the Friday but does have Sportsnet 1 open on the Saturday. The Score would have to pre-empt Wrestling, which may seem conceivable for many but it is one of the highest rated programs on the station and may actually draw more viewers than AHL Hockey. NHL Network just has highlights, Rogers TV has local programming and the like and Leafs TV is showing AHL Conference Finals games and other filler.

For what its worth, I checked the SSP and it isn't listed there.

Also, as a side, I am surprised MLSE isn't playing Game 3, 4 and 5 at the ACC instead of the Ricoh Coliseum. I know they have the Fresh Music Fest on the Saturday when Game 4 is going to be played, but I would have bumped it for this, and the other two dates are open.

They may have already melted the ice for the off-season?

I wonder if Sportsnet has ever considered having a secondary channel for Sportsnet Ontario such as Sportsnet Leafs. The other teams Sportsnet covers regionally all have the alternate channel. I know there is Leafs TV but that is not owned by Sportsnet.

Its a topic for another thread but I would venture to guestimate that Rogers view on this is that the Leafs would never get pushed off of Sportsnet Ontario for alternate programming since they will always be the most compelling.

The only time Sportsnet uses those alt channels is if they have a conflict with a national broadcast (NFL, World Series, etc).

Any Toronto games on those nights just air on Leafs TV instead. No need for a Sportsnet Leafs.

I'm surprised the Marlies weren't on Leafs TV to begin with...it seems right up their alley.

The Marlies are constantly shown on Leafs TV.

Games 1-3 and 6-7 of the series will air on Leafs TV, which will be available on cable systems across Canada during a special promotional "free-view" period during the Calder Cup Finals. Games 4 and 5 will air in Canada on the 24-hour national sports channel Sportsnet ONE. In addition, the entire series will be available on ESPN America, reaching millions of fans in more than 35 countries in Europe and the Middle East.

Fans can also listen to the Calder Cup Finals on the all-hockey NHL Home Ice channel on SiriusXM Satellite Radio (Sirius 207, XM 92), which will carry Game 1 and Games 3-7 of the series.

And as always, AHL Live has live streaming of every Calder Cup Finals game at ahllive.com.

CFMJ is only going to broadcast Game 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7. Game 2 and 6 conflicts with NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs which the station has the radio rights to, although if the NHL sees a finals sweep, they will probably pick up Game 6 of the Calder.

Also, find it interesting there isn't an American broadcaster, such as NHL Network. EDIT: Looks as if it just has yet to be announced. See: https://twitter.com/TheAHL/status/207938519514095616

Any incite if it will it be an unbiased AHL broadcast or will it be a 'homer' and produced by MLSE?

ESPN America isn't available in the USA. Its a European channel focused on USA and Canada sports. A look over at Lyngsat confirms that it isn't available on any satellite in the western hemisphere at present time (it used to be available at Hispasat at 30.0°W and Eutelsat 7 West A at 7.3°W).

For more detail see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ESPN_America

As noted in my earlier post, The AHL Twitter account hints that an announcement regarding what station in the USA will air the game is pending. Of course, we are about 35 hours away from puck drop for Game 1 so they better get their act together.

As for Canada, we will have to see tomorrow what happens with LeafsTV and if suddenly everyone in Canada is going to have access to the station. I wouldn't be surprised if some BDUs just put the game with the LeafsTV feed for free in their sports package. Rogers for one has updated their guide listings to reflect the game being on, with a 30 minute pre/post game as well. But the guide makes no mention of a free preview.

Thank you. I got my answer and deleted my post just before I read your post. Thanks again.

I've noticed today on BELL TV,that I am getting LEAFS TV and I'm located outside of the LEAFS broadcast area, in Montreal. It looks like the AHL website is right and the channel is on "free preview" for the Calder Cup finals across Canada and not just the LEAFS region. ...Good news.

Me too. I'm in Manitoba and LeafsTV is currently showing and open on Bell. Please prove me wrong Marlies, but I think Norfolk is gonna sweep.

I sure wish the broadcasters would have stepped up a few years ago like this when the Manitoba Moose were in the Calder Cup finals.

Can someone tell LeafsTV that they don't need to fit their SD station for 16:9 and then provide side bars. I get it that Norfolk is only 4:3 and that they need to upconvert to add side bars for the HD station but it should be full screen on a 4:3 screen then, don't need bars all around the picture.

Can't wait till we get back to Toronto and the game is shot 16:9.

Is anyone watching on The AHL website? Are they just picking up the LeafsTV feed or is there a neutral feed being produced by the league? To me it looks as if there is a clean/neutral feed and then LeafsTV is just putting their own ticker and overlays on as they can.

Could LeafsTV not have just booted over to the CFMJ (AM640) feed when they lost the video feed? That would have been more useful. Just put the score-up and at least let us hear what was going on.

Apparently it was on FTA at:

G17 12089 H 13235 HD Admirals vs Marlies

It might come back in future games, including tonight.

I take it they didn't actually have an HD feed?
