Lorenzo1000 2012-04-28, 02:44 PM My Harmony one works just fine with my Gateway system...no delays whatsoever.
On another note my Gateway finally followed my portals into the land of the new update overnight!!! :) Everything seems to be functioning pretty well...still not perfect but an improvement over where we were.
Emvious 2012-04-28, 02:53 PM I was just trying a few other settings... Since I have two Harmony One remotes, it is easy to do side-by-side comparisons with different settings. One thing that does seem to help is to go in to the device troubleshooting in the Harmony software, under "Portal responds to some commands either too many times or only occasionally" and lower this number (I set it to 0 and it seems fine, but if I notice issues I will increase it.) It appears this does have an impact on how long the remote sends the command for a button press.
Jetranger 2012-04-28, 04:04 PM I just checked and my 'delay' settings are 100ms between keys and 150ms between devices(I didn't even realize I had this setting so these are likely the 'default' settings). I tested the Harmony and factory remotes side by side and I actually do see a delay now that I have tried this. It's so minor that I guess I have missed it since I had to get used to pressing the Skip buttons more slowly so it wouldn't cause a problem.
I would set the number lower but I really don't have any issues with the speed it's at now. I guess I'm not moving through the menu like you are, FenderF4i.
FenderF4i 2012-04-28, 05:07 PM One thing that does seem to help is to go in to the device troubleshooting in the Harmony software, under "Portal responds to some commands either too many times or only occasionally" and lower this number (I set it to 0 and it seems fine, but if I notice issues I will increase it.)
Setting the response in troubleshooting to 0 seems to have solved my issue, and it now responds nearly as quickly as the stock remote. Thanks for your help everyone!!!
bevster 2012-04-29, 02:04 AM Noticed today in the guide the shows that were airing did not match the description.. for example, ch 209 said brokeback mountain, yet cbc news was on.
I decided to go into the dashboard and click update epg just for kicks and then the guide reflected the correct show after that.
Wonder how many ppl will have problems with recordings because they need to update it since this new update came out? I wouldnt have guessed to even try this without reading these forums.
Jetranger 2012-04-29, 02:11 AM This is interesting as the guide data should be updating nightly on it's own. Did you happen to notice the last time it was updated before you did it manually?
Ormrod 2012-04-29, 12:54 PM Last night I missed out on recording the LA/St. Louis game because my system had it listed as "NASCAR Racing" in the guide.
bevster 2012-04-29, 01:05 PM Jetranger,
no i did not notice the last time it updated, I just went in there and went straight for update epg as I have read a few have done since the new firmware. Prior to the new firmware I have never seen this happen.
Hope its back to normal now, will report back if i notice it happen again.
cellarboy 2012-04-29, 11:51 PM Well since my system took the updates I've had several portal reboots and "lost communication" errors. Seems to have been a bit of a regression for me after the Gateway exchange and system tinkering a couple of months ago got thinks working relatively well.
Nice work Shaw.
I'd really be curious as to how these units are performing on the other recently announced Gateway customers systems. What software load do they have. What features do they have that we're still waiting for?
Of course, having worked for Shaw Direct/Starchoice and experienced first hand the quality of their internal firmware development and testing, I expect very little.
Jetranger 2012-04-30, 01:05 AM I've had a couple of 'spontaneous' Portal reboots but my guide hasn't been an issue, at least not that I have noticed. The time between the Portals and my DCX3400 has varied from over a minute to only a few seconds and is now about 14 seconds behind. I realize the 'time issue' wasn't addressed in this update but it seems to have been wandering a lot in the past few days.
There's a good chance things are quite different for any other operator of the Gateway as Shaw's network requires some custom software that accommodates their network that is different from most others, apparently. It's possible other users could be enjoying features that us Shaw customers will have to be patient for while both parties, Shaw and ARRIS, get the systems 'playing nice together'.
By the end of this summer, possibly sooner, we should have a good selection of 'features' to play with and figure out how best to integrate into our home networks and our media viewing habits. Shaw may be deliberately waiting until the summer season to release DLNA, for example, as there is less chance of disturbing 'series' recordings and the like should the code enabling it be a more 'disruptive technology' than it is already intended to be.
FenderF4i 2012-04-30, 07:29 AM I can say that I haven't had a single problem yet. The entire system is much snappier than it used to be for me, in both menu navigation and transport functions. I'm actually quite pleased with this update!
stanl 2012-04-30, 11:57 AM For me the update has been mixed. And I am one of the ones that has had a virtual trouble free Gateway experience.
The transport functions are certainly more responsive as I can rapidly fast forward without problems.
However, my guide is much slower than it was before. The update has introduced noticeable lag (sometimes up to 5 seconds) when scrolling through it. Previously it was instantaneous.
And since the update I have experienced 2 spontaneous portal reboots in the middle of watching something (once recorded, once live). I had never experienced a portal reboot prior to this.
So for me, I would have to say that overall, the update has introduced more problems than it solved.
buckycat 2012-04-30, 12:11 PM No problems here except some missing Logos on the guide since the update. No reboots or freezes, so generally happy. Don't really care about the missing chunks of channels on the grid guide anymore as I prefer the other guide now.
sailorickm 2012-04-30, 12:31 PM Buckycat: what is the "other guide" that you prefer?
buckycat 2012-04-30, 12:37 PM The guide that you access by through the main menu.
FenderF4i 2012-04-30, 12:45 PM I also have preferred the "new" guide compared to the grid guide, as it's fast and doesn't suffer from the missing channels problem.
sailorickm 2012-04-30, 12:54 PM Are you both referring to the "Channels" menu? It shows one column of what's playing now (and how many minutes are remaining), and off to the right side it lists "Coming up" for the channel focused on the left with the next few shows and their start times?
I took one look at that and never looked again. Maybe I'll give it a look.
buckycat 2012-04-30, 01:01 PM Yah thats the one. I didn't like it at first but now that I'm used to it I prefer it.
wnderinguy45 2012-04-30, 01:16 PM Nothing but issues here:
VOD not working ( just get the swirling arrow in the bottom corner )
Channel menu becomes unresponsive for minutes at a time
Some( but not all) PVR selections not recorded
time is off (started at 10 minutes ,but now 15minutes off)
etc...
The blue download arrow on the front of the Arris Gateway has been blinking for two weeks now ,unplugging from power for 5+minutes makes no difference upon restart.
shawsean 2012-04-30, 01:32 PM @wnderinguy45 - If you could pm me your account details I'll have a Gateway specialist investigate further. Please also let me know the best time to reach you at.
Cheers,
Sean
