: CLOSED — Shaw Gateway: Code Update 7.0.1b.17 (See Post #1)
buckycat 2012-04-27, 02:06 PM Seeing that there is an official Shaw rep reading this forum (shawsean), can we get an official statement on what this "update" actually provides to us with bug fixes/new features? I seem to recall with previous updates Shaw Champ posted a detailed list of changes. Haven't seen him on the forums for a while though.
GamerGuy 2012-04-27, 02:33 PM Though I appreciate the forum updates, Shaw customers should not have to go to a 3rd party site to see these things.
Again, bad business as I see it.
buckycat 2012-04-27, 02:39 PM ^Thats true. Though most people who aren't on these forums probably wouldn't even know (or care) that there was an update.
Golf Crazy 2012-04-27, 02:47 PM I absolutely agree. I am one who likes to go through those logs to. I am quite annoyed with the lack of this option, and I have already stated such to a manager a few weeks back.
It's just poor business practice to keep your paying customers in the dark in my opinion. {edit:} Especially when one pays in the hundreds of dollars for this hardware!
But it is only poor business practice when you are worse than your competition. In this case, Shaw doesn't care if it is better than Telus or Bell, it just doesn't want to be worse. Poor service obviously isn't cutting too big into their business, we all bought the gear and we are much better informed than the regular consumer who doesn't read items on this forum.
atong 2012-04-27, 03:01 PM My Gateway has updated, and one of my two Portals. Unfortunately I've rebooted the Gateway a few times today because channels weren't available (231 - HGTV, my wife's favorite). Not sure why that is.
Try going into the dashboard and updating the EPG of the Gateway. I was missing all channels 405+ and doing that fixed everything.
Jetranger 2012-04-27, 04:28 PM The 'change list' that I provided in Post #18 is likely the best you are going to get as Shaw has been 'burned' with these lists in the past. When an item is listed as 'fixed' in a code release and it turns out it actually isn't fixed, that is seen as a failure and/or liability to Shaw. Therefore, they are better off just saying, "A new software package is being sent out this week and that should solve some of the more common problems."
It's a sad excuse for them to have to do this but they have never been big on telling anyone what they are doing or when so, really, why would they change now? I would be much happier knowing as much as I can, sooner than later too, but this seems to be the last thing Shaw cares about since it doesn't improve their bottom line but only stands to hurt it so they just don't do it. The recent exceptions seem to have been a 'test' and now we are back to the 'silent treatment' again.
Hopefully someone at Shaw will see everyone's comments here and take a different view but I wouldn't expect that to happen anytime soon. Here's to hoping I'm wrong.
FenderF4i 2012-04-27, 06:29 PM What are the best key delay settings for the Harmony remote when used with the Gateway? The button presses are quite a bit delayed for me compared to the factory Gateway remote.
Is there a way to improve this?
cafebrad 2012-04-27, 07:47 PM I have no audio today thru hdmi, but i do thru audio cables to a receiver. Is this something new to anyone else as well? I power cycled a couple times to no avail. Is it possible for the hdmi to lose audio capability but not video. My equipment updated back on the 24th or so and just now this is happening and i wonder if its related or if i am just now experiencing an issue i didnt before that some others are.
Jetranger 2012-04-27, 08:13 PM Is your TV a Toshiba or Panasonic? If so then yes, it is a known issue. I'm not sure what can be done about it but there is a fix coming for it but that won't be until the next update.

I had the same audio failure with a new Sony. I was advised by shaw to go under the settings, and select audio output, and then toggle from Dolby Digital, to Stereo, and then back again, or visa versa.
This worked for me as I was optical out from the portal directly to the LG sound bar, thus the tv had no connection whatsoever.
This is apparently a known problem that should be resolved soon.

Thanks, I gave that a shot, and restarted the Gateway. The channel is back, and hopefully it'll stay that way. Looks like two of my wife's recordings didn't work because of this issue. Uh oh...!
GWNorth 2012-04-27, 11:49 PM I certainly hope Shaw doesn't completely revert to the silent treatment. The launch of Gateway seemed to be a more open, co-operative effort on the part of Shaw to connect with their customers and was a marked difference from their support of other hardware they use. Wasn't that part of the "Gateway Experience"? Without this effort, I believe Gateway would have failed as a new platform. From reading these forums, there were too many very serious problem at launch that took far too long to address. If they had been giving the silent treatment in those early days, I think most people would have returned their boxes until Shaw sorted things out. I came in later than many here but the tidbits of news on impending fixes and features made a huge difference to me in sticking with Gateway. If all I the information I could get was from phone/chat CSRs that just say they don't know, I probably would have given up on Gateway and stuck with Motorola hardware or gone to Telus.
If Shaw has been burned by changelists saying something that is fixed when it isn't, perhaps they should have worded things differently to say they have "improved", "reduced", etc. an issue unless they are sure they have fixed it. Even if the changelist is incorrect for one of two items, customers can at least see that they made an effort there and I think in almost all cases, people can be understanding. IMHO, people get more frustrated with lack of information or response to problems. People are hoping for fixes and features for Gateway and considering how long the last update took, people can lose hope if they don't get some feedback even if the release dates have to be vague.

Jetranger 2012-04-28, 02:49 AM FenderF4i, I'm not sure what you are referring to. What model of Harmony remote do you have? I have the 'One' and I don't recall and 'delay settings' and have no issues or differences between it or the original Gateway system remotes.
GWNorth 2012-04-28, 03:20 AM Not sure about the 'One' but, for the 650 and 700 I use, the Logitech set up software on the PC allows setting an inter-key delay and in the advanced menu on the remote itself (press and hold help to enter this menu) there is an inter-device delay. Playing around with these settings may get the remote to behave closer to the default Gateway remote speed.
FenderF4i 2012-04-28, 09:45 AM I have the Harmony One. On the Shaw remote, if I'm in the menu and I hit a directional button 5 times quickly, it responds to each key press immediately. On the Harmony, it takes longer to register the 5 key presses. I have inter-key delay set to 0, which I would have though would make it responsive.
Can you find out what your settings are, jetranger?
roopster77 2012-04-28, 11:54 AM I have 3 Harmony remotes, a Harmony One, 1000, and 700. None of them have delays set on them...
FenderF4i 2012-04-28, 01:58 PM All 3 of your Harmony's are just as responsive to button presses as the Gateway remote?? Mine makes the Gateway feel slower.
Emvious 2012-04-28, 02:34 PM I have found my Harmony remotes to always be more sluggish than the original remotes with all devices, even after fiddling with the delay settings or setting them to 0. I have two Ones, and I previously had a 720.
Explanation of settings:
http://blog.logitech.com/2010/08/24/harmony-tips-and-tricks-adjusting-speed-setting-so-you-dont-always-use-the-help-button/
One thing that the Harmony does not let you set is how long the remote sends a command for a single quick button press. This causes volume control issues for me with one of my devices.
