: Gateway: Missing "new" tags on shows, missed PVR recordings

Besides this daylight savings time issue, I noticed today that my gateway did not record The Simpsons on FOX channel 208 here in Edmonton. I noticed that it didn't have the "NEW" tag on the episode, I guess that's why.

I looked ahead for my future recordings, and Alcatraz which is on tomorrow on FOX 208, and New Girl which is FOX 208 on Tuesday didn't have the "new" tag either, so they also were not in future recordings.

Anyone else notice this for any other shows on different channels?

I just checked New Girl on Fox HD and mine is scheduled to record at 6:00pm on channel 208 Tuesday.

This is a long running issue with the guide info. Some series are all marked as 'repeats' because they have previously aired in the US. There has been no definitive solution to this issue, as far as I know. The only option we are left with is to set 'repeats' to be accepted but that doesn't even work if there is no additional info in the show description.

An example is 'Gearz' that will often have just the title and no description. The new episodes started playing last week and the first one had no description and since a previously aired episode, with no description in the 'info', was run earlier the same day, that got recorded and the 'new' episode didn't. Then, just to rub a little salt in the wound, the 'repeat' episode that ran immediately following the new one did record.

I happened to notice this 'planned' activity and was able to set a manual recording in advance. I have noticed that some regular series recordings like NCIS:LA didn't record last week and I'm pretty sure it was a new episode. I still have to check on that but it means I have to DL the episode as there isn't one on VOD even.

Last new NCIS:LA episode was Feb 28 according to epguides.com.

Thanks, that covers that one off but I am positive about the 'Gearz' episodes since I watched all of them. I found it very odd that a 'new' episode had no description at all. I used to think 'all' episodes would be recorded but there is no option for 'all with duplicates' so I guess that explains why this can happen.

I suppose I need to set a 'time' for when it should record but since this seems to be 'flexible' on channels like Speed, that isn't the best solution either.

Alcatraz is also messed up on the Motorola DCX3400. Even if you change the series recording to "repeats" or "duplicates", it still won't record. The only way to get it to record is to do it manually. (I haven't watch Alcatraz yet, but I'm recording it just in case it doesn't get cancelled.)

Thanks for the info everyone. I've never ran into this issue before for any of the US/Canadian networks. Thankfully I caught it in time.

I have seen this occur for other shows on cable networks though. For example when An Idiot Abroad was on the Discovery Channel I think it was marked as "repeat" even though it was first airing in Canada.

I do know one way around this is just to set a recording for specific time and to set it record new and repeats. It would be nice of the information between the Gateway and Motorola boxes was in sync though.

On getting the Gateway and Motorola guides in sync, both guides have issues with new/repeat and one is better at some shows and the other is better with other shows so syncing them up just changes when the problems happen. Now if they could get a correct guide first, that would be great to get in sync with.
