Our third Gateway Portal is located in our garage where we have our workout equipment. Previously I had a laptop connected to an external LCD monitor. We attempted to connect the new Portal to the external LCD monitor but it does not work.
LCD monitor - Acer P236H with a VGA and a DVI input only; no HDMI input. I used a $10 HDMI to DVI adapter.
The monitor specs are 1680x1050 H66 kHz V 60Hz on VGA. I don't know if the specs change when it switches to DVI input.
When the Portal is connected and the monitor switches to DVI input, I get the message "Input not supported". Pressing the function button on the monitor to access settings does not work - I press the button, and nothing happens. The screen continues to show "Input not supported." I cannot change any settings manually on this monitor anyways.
I spent 1/2 hour on the phone (after waiting on hold for an hour) with tech support and they could not resolve the issue. When I unplug and plug in the Portal, I get video for a couple of seconds then it goes blank. The tech support suspects there is a mismatch with the resolution.
Unless someone else is aware of a solution, I am looking at purchasing a cheap HDTV with HDMI inputs for the garage. Hopefully my experience will save someone else a few hours of frustration.
Cheers,
Mike :(
