: New Build Suggestions?

I have one of the original SBGH antennas I built years ago in my house. It was made quite simply to experiment with performance, and not constructed for the outdoors. It worked so well I never bothered to make a weatherproof version.

After adding new siding with that foil-backed insulation needless to say I have terrible reception through a window :(

I have collected all the materials that I should need to do a new build, but after tons of reading I am at a loss as what variation I should use.

Here are the TVfool results (http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d67d9c42d40f3b6) The only channel I have had huge difficulties with is the channel 9. The rest I can get in with fair reception, but have to turn the antenna a bit left or right between channels.

I have a large tower at approx 35 to 40 foot height when I am done, but not sure what I will be putting up there yet:confused:

Your help would be appreciated, just let me know if you need anymore info, thanks!

Were you using the original SBGH with NARODs or without ?

Oh no, way before the narods. I tried to find my antenna build and cannot even find that, it was years ago.

I am getting confused with all the new designs I am seeing, modular or not, gh 6,8,10 . Maybe double 6 or 8?

I have reinstalled 4nec2 that I used with my last build, so I can (relearn) and work out a custom area to focus at. But not sure if I should be thinking single or double etc without over kill. I hope that makes sense.

Also the only channel that is giving me fits is the channel 9. They did a short range digital, and (I believe) the long range is still at their old tower and frequency. I have no hopes of reaching their short range, maybe a yagi/GH combo etc will at least get me the other.

So without sacrificing performance on the other stations, and hoping to add 9 to my list I am totally confused.

As I said I can build anything, and have a tower to put it on- there are just too many options I see.

I will have to hunt down the pdf I used on my build. It looks like this (http://clients.teksavvy.com/~nickm/gh_n3_uV/gh10n3_9V7_15u0.html) one (only because of the staggered reflectors) but the spacing down the middle is the same for each. And mine has only nine pairs of reflectors? No narods of course either.

Without NARODs on the GH, Im surprised you got channel 9 at all at 10 NM.

Without NARODs, the GH has negative Net Gain. With just simple straight 30.25" NARODs added to your present GH .5" above the stubs measured center of wire to center of wire, youll get at about 6 dbi on channel 9, which is more than a quadrupling of signal.

Well never did get channel 9, except every now and then if the weather or whatever was just right. As I said I need to do a build that can go outdoors.

I am not really sure of the actual differences of the designs on nikiml's pages. Or even if there is a different one somewhere else I should be considering.

As it is now I have to rotate or tip it a bit for different channels, not much maybe 10 degrees or so, but dont want to do that on the roof :p

Can you tell me what you would suggest?
