: After 'Shaw Secret Sale' discussion thread
S.Chan 2012-01-07, 05:14 PM Also did anyone get receipt for purchases from the secret sale? I was told there were no receipts and I would have to check my bill.
I went to Coquitlam Centre and did not get a receipt.
I did not get a receipt either. I was told the charge will show up on my Shaw bill as an equipment purchase.
JasonB 2012-01-07, 10:30 PM I received a receipt, but I went on the second day (in Victoria).
I have a feeling that this event was a learning process for all of them.
Disappointed that I haven't heard back from @ShawJohn after sending the email as requested... :(
Jetranger 2012-01-08, 06:42 PM For those who were lucky enough to win one of the 'Free TVs' at the 'Secret Sale', like I was, here are the numbers I got when using my Spyder3 to calibrate my set this afternoon. I set the TV to 'USER' as it was the same as STANDARD. This way you can do a 'before and after' comparison when you are done. All other settings were as set at the factory.
Since the numbers are hard to see, here's what they boil down to:
Brightness 50
Contrast 56
Saturation 46
Hue -4
Sharpness 10
Colour Temp: Warm*
*This last one was almost dead on when viewed in the graph so no further adjustments were needed.
I would post the pdf of the graphs but it seems I am at my 'quota' for attachments so when I figure out how to make some more room, I will add the document then.
Extreme 2012-01-08, 09:43 PM Brilliant... Thanks for the work and the information JetRanger.
Jetranger 2012-01-09, 02:26 PM Here are the graphs that support the settings the Spyder3 came up with.
Thanks for the space bump, Hugh.
gill7 2012-01-12, 10:14 PM Will Shaw be holding another sale similar to this?

Is the DCX3400 going to be for $99? As it was at the secret sale?
JasonB 2012-01-20, 11:31 PM I forgot to follow up here; ShawJohn followed up with me when he got back to the office, and the situation was resolved to my satisfaction.
I'm not going to go into details, but the lengths he and several others went to in order to make this work, especially after some confusion that was more than partly my fault, have gone a long way towards solidifying my satisfaction with Shaw's service. Kudos.
PaulB 2012-01-21, 05:08 PM Looks like a part of this sale is back in BC for Chinese New Year: http://www.shawchinese.ca/chinesenewyear
- Gateway + Portal Special: At event locations, Gateway + Portal has special CNY low price (Over 50% Off) - $148
Awesome. Thanks for the heads up!
ranjy 2012-01-22, 11:22 PM I went to Semiahmoo Mall in South Surrey and talked to the guys at the Kiosk there and ...I'm getting something similar (not quite as good)...Gateway + 2 Portals for $173, but I have to trade-in my HDPVR + SD Shaw Box.
PaulB 2012-01-23, 06:43 PM Went out to Aberdeen Centre yesterday and bought a Gateway and two portals. Just got a phone call from Shaw to schedule the install for tomorrow morning.
Now I have to figure out how to rearrange my entertainment unit to make room for the gateway.
Jetranger 2012-01-23, 06:46 PM Check the 'Install' thread as you don't want the Gateway in your entertainment center if you can avoid it. It should be remotely located.
PaulB 2012-01-23, 07:35 PM I've read that thread and understand the concerns, but in a condo there aren't many options:
- Entertainment centre (potential noise & overheating)
- Closet where the cable enters the apartment (potential overheating)
- On dresser in master bedroom near second TV (potential noise / over spouses' dead body)
I'll ask the installer what he thinks about the closet location, but if DLNA is going to require a hardwired connection to my SMC modem, the entertainment unit is the only option.
Jetranger 2012-01-23, 07:40 PM Fair enough. Sounds like it really is your only option.
S.Chan 2012-01-24, 01:51 AM Is the DCX3400 going to be for $99? As it was at the secret sale?
There's no mention of this on the webpage. However, maybe PaulB or another member that went to the event can better answer this.
Went out to Aberdeen Centre yesterday and bought a Gateway and two portals.
The website mentioned "draws, games, and specially priced monthly products" (有抽獎活動、遊戲、每月特惠產品). Were they giving away TVs again for the draws (like they did for the Secret Sale)?
PaulB 2012-01-24, 11:06 AM They were having a draw for a free Gateway and Portal, but I didn't notice any mention of free TVs.
gill7 2012-01-26, 01:31 PM @ S.Chan
The box was on sale for $99, got it for $110.88 with tax. =D Didn't even have to go there to get the deal.
TechGuy8 2012-01-26, 01:40 PM @gill7,
Did you call in or online chat to get the MCX3400?
