According to Twitter's Twitter account

On Dec 9, the television screening in Japan of Hayao Miyazaki’s “Castle in the Sky” led to 25,088 Tweets per second - a new Twitter record.

I didn't see that mentioned anywhere on the "Year in Review" site, or on their @twitter page. I did see it mentioned on @twittercomms though, as well as on several third-party sites.

I do find this factoid a little bit odd, though; both that the TV showing of a 25-year old anime film that everybody in Japan has already seen, sets a tweet-per-second record, and that the record that is set is about triple the previous record. This would be akin to a TV showing of "Back to the Future" setting a tweet-per-second record.
