I haven't checked to see if the hard drive is still spinning when its off but I do know that my 6208 is near silent. I don't get any sounds at all.

57, I'm not doing anything wrong, it just doesn't work that way. True it's always recording, so you can rewind it up to 45 minutes, but if you rewind it and hit record at that point it jumps ahead to live and records from there. The Bell 5100/5800 also made by Motorolla I believe, allowed you to rewind 60 minutes and record from there, then jump ahead to live and keeps everything.

PLUS every recording I've made has had some sort of picture glitch. Either the screen gets pixelated, or goes black or the sound drops for a second, but it's always something! That plus no commercial skip, plus what I mentioned up top plus slow channel changing...the list is growing. It might go back very soon! I couldn't give a crap about HD, there's not much programming anyway!

Anyone else have picture glitches (pixelate etc..)??

Ok...my 6208 is still acting up:

I have the movie "Underworld" in my list of future recordings to record on channel 58, 10pm to 12pm. I did not put it there and when I go to cancel the recording it says "contact Shaw and give them code NH".

Also, the soap opera I wanted to record for my wife did not record again this morning even though it was listed in the upcoming recordings.

This is strange...

I just had exactly the same thing happen (with the error code) - all of my recordings have happened OK so far, but I have a mystery recording for tomorrow that I cannot delete... Phoned Shaw, here in Calgary - CSR on the phone said he doesn't know what NH means (that's DANDY!)
Apparently, his colleague who's worked there for AGES doesn't know what is means either, and they can't "reproduce it".

I find it staggering that a message on-screen which SPECIFICALLY references Shaw AND their phone number contains an error code about which they have no knowledge or understanding... I sure hope this situation changes in a hurry after I dropped $800 on this behemoth :-)

The only solution they suggested was resetting the box (which would supposedly wipe out all my recordings/future recordings) so I said I'd prefer to "wait and see" for now!!!

I just added a commercial skip button to my MX-700 remote as per instructions in this thread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=b70871fc369acf00c6438e2ea5779127&threadid=4 16868 . If you have a MX-700 or Pronto you should be able to do the same. It's working great and adds a much needed feature.

What happens if you jump to live and hit record at that point, instead of hitting record when you've "backed up"? I'm just wondering that the STB might be "confused" by you having rewound, instead of being "live". Just a suggestion...

57, I tried that also, but it just starts recording from that point. Thanks though.

Anyone have distorted or pixelation happening that I mentioned above?

Marks, I have an MX-700, but that post makes absolutely no sense to me unfortunetly.

Does anyone have an answer to this question? The problem I am having is when I am watching a program that I have recorded to the drive, while at the same time recording a new program to the drive. I'll start watching the original recorded program by clicking the 'Watch from beginning' button. But if for some reason I want to stop the program, pressing 'Stop' on the remote will cause the box to want to stop recording the program that is being recorded currently. I guess the bottom line is that I can't seem to find a way to stop a recorded program while recording a new one.

Any help would be appreciated.

Since the unit only has one tuner, and it's busy doing the other recording, if you hit "stop" the unit can't "take you anywhere" because the tuner is busy...

I suppose it should stop the recorded programme you're watching and take you to the "recorded programmes" list. You may want to see if that option's available when you hit "stop".

57, when you press 'stop' on the remote the only option you have is to cancel the action of stopping the recording or stopping the recording. I guess what you could maybe do is hit guide and select the channel that is currently recording. This should probably stop the program and tune in the current channel. Kind of a pain.

On the SA8000HD, when it's recording 2 programmes (it has two tuners), when you turn on the unit, it takes you to one of the channels being recorded (instead of your usual "startup" channel.)

You can then press "List" which takes you to your recorded programmes list and you can watch a previously recorded programme.

When you press "stop" on the SA8000HD, it asks you if you want to - erase, start from beginning, go to end, continue watching. If you erase, it probably takes you to the same channel that it took you to in the first paragraph. Then you can bring up the "list" again.

If you try to change channels, it only lets you go to the channels being recorded (gives you the options available).

abeirnes2, I hope I read your post right. If you are watching a recorded program and want to go back to a new program that is currently being recorded, just hit the live button.

Sorry if I misunderstood your post.

Kramdens, that's probably the best bet. Thanks! I would like to be able to press a button and have it take me back to the menu screen for that program, but I guess this is better than nothing.

I wonder if Motorola accepts emails with suggested software enhancements

Or we could take up a collection and send them a Tivo. It's obvious they've never seen one.

Newest version of the MX-700 Editor has a file for 6208. Is the commercial skip feature in that file or this a learned feature on top?

So far the 6208 has been performing well - I'm delighted with the things it can do, for the most part.

Hope I am describing the problems well enough so you can follow what I'm asking; anyway here goes:

Am wondering whether other users are also not getting any program titles when recording. I record something off Channel 301, for example, and when I go to List, I get a date and time but not the actual title of the program I recorded. (Obviously can not sort by title then.) When I set the DVR to do a timed recording, when I reach the step where I select the channel I want, I do not get a program title, only get a message saying that digital terminal model so and so is required (even though I'm using one!). I hit select and the timed recording is indeed set up properly, but with no program title.

Also, is there a quick way (without going through the rewinding process) of returning to the very beginning of a recorded program, once you're into it a ways?

Your description is for recording by time and you do not get a title for a recording a program that way as your recording time does not necessarily correspond with a program entry. You need to select recording from the information screen when a program is selected from a guide entry. That way gives you the program's starting and ending times and title automatically. You can go into options and change the start and end times if desried.

If you press the LIST key, then highlight the desired program and press SELECT or INFO you should get a screen that has icon's at the bottom that allow you to resume play or restart from the beginning.

The reason you are not getting any program info when you record on Ch 301 is because Shaw never seems to add the program info for HDTV1 and HDTV2, they just always seem to say "To Be Announced".

To get to the beginning of a recording hit the List button on the remote and select the recording your are watching then select the rewind to beginning button. It looks like a vertical bar with a triangle next to it.

Now I have a question; Is there an easy way to change the guide to show the programing for future days? Right now I just press the right arrow button to adavance by 1/2 hours, it quite tedious.

The 6208 responds to the DAY+ and DAY- keys of my remote for my DCT2000. I use a Marantz universal remote so I can add any codes I want as long as I have a remote that can produce them to be learned by my Marantz. If you just want to use the remote supplied with the 6208 I don't know what to suggest.

My lack of program title info is not limited to Channels 301 and 302. I'm not getting program titles no matter which channels I record from??

Thanks Lego for the tip on getting back to the very beginning of a recorded progam - understand that now.

Just to confirm what you are doing. Are you pressing MENU, MENU, higlighting DVR, pressing SELECT and then highlighting SET A RECORDING and then pressing SELECT. If so, you prgramming a recording by setting a starting time and ending time and you cannot get a title from the on-screen guide.

There are several ways to set a progam for recording that automatically picks up the start and end times and program title. One way is to press MENU, MENU and then highlight LSTINGS BY CHANNEL and the press SELECT. Then enter the channel number you want to record, scroll down to highlight the program you want to record and press INFO. You should then see information about the program and a set of icons at the bottom for actions you want to take and highlight the record option, an encircled R and press SELECT and finish the process. This will set up a recording and will automatically default the program start and end times and the program title.
