: Shaw DCT6208 Errors / Problems / Questions / Impressions
It's not a matter of Shaw enabling them, but Pre-vue writing software code to make it possible to enable them.
Would love to see another software company out there write an interface for the 6000 series boxes, like Tivo.
nomas 2005-06-21, 04:51 AM Is there any way with the 6208 to go to the END of a recording other than FF through the whole thing?
Anybody? I'm curious about the same thing. Or perhaps a FF with a higher granularity.
TIA
talljak 2005-09-07, 05:31 PM 2 times in the last week since I bought my 6412 i have turned it on only to find no picture or sound. the guide still works but no cable hd or music
I have to unplug it, basically resets it self and have to wait for the guide to re-download
is there a reason for this or something known about this issue
thanks for input
Cableguy72 2005-11-07, 05:08 PM go into your list of prerecorded shows, start one then stop it, then your tv channels will show. best to just leave box on all the time.
zzzman 2005-11-21, 01:21 PM I have a 6208 and have read in previous posts and on other forums that some people have unplugged the fan next to the hard drive which is the source of most of the noise. Can anyone confirm that they have had this fan unplugged for a long period of time with no issues.
DCTGoddess 2005-11-23, 06:08 PM There's usually no problem as long as the DCT gets plenty of ventilation.
zzzman 2005-11-23, 06:55 PM Thanks DCTGoddess,
I have nothing right on top of the DCT and at least 6 inches between the top of DCT and the next shelf above. Also the shelf unit it is on is open in the front and part of the back.
kyun7128 2005-11-23, 11:56 PM Hi. I have a Comcast DCT6208/1000 and Shaw (Vancouver) successfulling added it to their network and they activated it. Unfortunately, I cannot get all the channels. For example, I scroll up to 14 and then it jumps to 24. There might be other channels but I did not take a closer look.
Anyone have this problem? I called Shaw tech support and they could not check it because they could not communicate with my terminal. The idea I have is to do a complete reset of the terminal. Perhaps when I remove the old Comcast programming and I download Shaw's, it may function properly. Does anyone know how to do a full reset on this terminal? I found instructions for doing it on a 6412 but I'm not sure if it will work on the 6208.
Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. I thank you in advance.
Ken
alexb75 2005-11-29, 03:52 PM Hi,
I was wondering if there's a difference between 6208-2000 and 6208-2005 and which one works with Shaw? There was a guy who told me that 2005s do NOT work with shaw?! Is that true?
Also, in general, does those 6208 PVRs from US work on Shaw? What does it take to make it work?
sleeper 2006-01-06, 01:26 PM edit: I have a motorola dct 6412
I've had this for about 2 weeks now and I love the PVR. HD looks great, recording was easy. No problems whatsoever.
Until... I decided that the HD on there wasn't big enough. Recording a few HD movies took up a lot of space. So I read through on how to capture it on a computer. So I go to plug the firewire into the PVR port (into the right one if looking at it from the back). But, as soon as I plugged it into my comp, it turned off. So I go turn it on and finish setting up. Recorded. Worked great.
Now, I've got a problem though. I can't fast forward or rewind very quickly. It used to be if I selected the fastest fast forward, it would be 1 min of movie time every second. Now, it crawls. It's like 1 min of movie time in 40 seconds. Not very fast. And this is for rewinding too.
Anyone have an idea what the problem may be? I'm think something is goofy with the hard drive.
gesundheit 2006-01-09, 03:57 PM Yesterday I attempted to record a half hour show on Fox-HD, but decided to stop it and delete it part way through. Instead it carried on recording all night with no way to stop it until my drive was 100% full. I guess most of the shows were SD, because the program is 1184 minutes long! It finally gave me an option to stop (other option was to continue the recording as soon as I cleared some disc space!), but I still can't delete it. Error message says "cannot delete while file is in use - code CIU". I want rid of this space hog!
I suspect from what I remember from people with similar problems, that I'll have to call Shaw to reset my 6208. Trouble is I have three shows I haven't watched yet and want to keep. So if anyone has a non-destructive way of deleting just the problem file, I'm all ears (eyes). Thanks.
magnet 2006-01-09, 04:02 PM Maybe a dumb question... can't you just watch the shows/ tape to a VCR first, and then get a reset?
gesundheit 2006-01-10, 01:27 AM Not a dumb question, just an obvious one - but with the amount of free time I have this week, I won't be able to watch them until the weekend at the earliest, meaning I won't have room to record anything else this week. So I was going to resort to taping this week's shows...but problem is solved! Rather easily too  I just turned the machine off (I usually leave it on at all times), let it sit a while, turned it back on, and the file was now deletable, preserving my other recordings.
Is it possible to format the hard drive in the motorola receiver? Ours has been acting strangely the last couple weeks. At the moment, there are no shows recorded on it, so I though I would try formatting the drive and doing a full reset.
don't bother trying to format it yourself, call shaw and they'll come and replace it for you. I've had many problems with my box and I just call shaw, the guy comes and just gives me a new one even if it's acting normally when he comes. They know the software on the box is crap so let them deal with it.
sctlenz 2006-02-13, 11:12 AM Hi Just had shaw over last week (by the way service was excellent)to look at my 6412 p1 box that was having trouble. they swapped it out for a new P3 Box. When we first started looking at the HD channels they seems extremely choppy (like 5 frames/s). Looking at the basic digital channels there was no such problem. The tech called in and had them reset the box and it seemed to fix the problem. However after watching hd programs all week end it sometimes seems to me that the framerate is still not quite right. I had no such trouble with the 6412 p1 box. The new box has all of the updated firmware and software upgrades. Any ideas. Would a reset mabey fix the problem or has there been some issues with the new 6412 p3 boxes.
Things are weirder now. I can't delete 24 and when I try to play it (i've already seen it), it says it's only 2 minutes long, even though in the PVR list it says 60 minutes. If I try to delete it, it sits there for a minute, then tells me the file is in use, error something (error CIS or something).
I tried unplugging and plugging it back in. No deal. Another recording works fine, deleted fine. Does shaw replace it if we bought the box?
Cableguy72 2006-02-15, 08:50 PM if the recordings were there prior to or on feb 8 they are probobly corrupt due to the code load for VOD. you may have to format the hard drive to correct it. this will not only delete your recordings but any series recordings will be deleted as well.
firefight16 2006-02-25, 06:22 PM I had a great 6208 until a week after the new software upgrade. I boght the 6208 PVR December 2004 and only called Shaw once with a problem. But as soon as they gave me this new software I am today on my 3rd 6208 and next week I may finally get a 6412 as a replacement. Here is my list of headaches.
1 Would not record a show said drive full, IT WAS NOT CLOSE, so I deleted a couple kids shows and that recording worked I did not call Shaw on this.
2 Next day same message called Shaw, said they would have to low level format, so had to wait a day had shows to watch.
3 A couple days after format when I called up guide or list I would get video in top right corner but reast of screen was black. Shaw reset box.
4 Watching TV box reboots itself feb 13 2006

10 Feb 18 tech shows up with new box checks signal all is well with signal, tech says box is preloaded at shop with new software, yah right soon as he activates it download starts for new software, takes 1/2 hour for reload he leaves and calls me to see how D/L went said I had to call for a reset after D/L but HD looked bad. He comes back and it was a setting box was at 480 and he set to 1080i looks great.

12 box locks up cant do a thing even from box front panel shaw resets box. its 7am feb 22 2006
13 a couple minutes latter box locks up now dealing with a direct phone number to supervisor, a reset and an earful to them give me a 6412 if this 6208 wont work with new software, supervisor will call me back and let me know.
14 Call come quick 20 minutes feb 22 2006 Supervosor say I can buy and upgrade no deal as anone can do this, she will send a tech with another box. Box coming feb 23. with a tech to check lines again.
15 box still freezes by itself after watching a channel for 15 minutes or so but have discovered how to freeze it instantly call up list on PVR box freezes instantly. Only good thing is all I have to do is unplug it and it will start up again did I mention Olympic Canada is playing!!! Feb 22 2006

20 Feb 24 9 pm well shaw had sent us all an email saying SOD was giving us a free movie a while back I tried with orgianl box with orginal software via internet SOD didn't work seems they should have said in email wont work with 6208 and orgianal software so tonight we decide to try. part way through movie SOD kicks us out to channel 1 we are pissed but kids are out and I go back to SOD and select same movie sems its atill playing rewind a bit and watch rest of show with no bugs did not call Shaw about this.

I have been experiencing the exact same problem since the upgrade. Seemingly at random, recordings will get 'stuck', they don't play, have some really short length and cannot be deleted. I have been back and forth with tech support on this one, resetting the box countless times, even formatting the hard drive but the problem always returns. This is annoying since recording things is no longer reliable and I end up with a lot of crud on the drive that cannot be deleted. I guess the next step is to ask for another box. That would be #3, the first one died after about 8 months.
