I still have the problem with a phantom recording on my list of recordings that's taking up 15% of my hard drive but I can't delete it. Its up to second level TSR's. We'll see what happens.
Is it an actual recorded program on your drive that you cannot delete or a scheduled future recording that will not go away?

If it is the scheduled recording, you can try the following: Removing Phantom Recordings (http://www.digitalhomecanada.com/forum/showpost.php?p=126671&postcount=5)

I've searched and couldn't find how to view a list of future upcoming recordings I've setup. Gotta be a way??

Thanks.

Roger, its on my list of actual recordings but it isn't really a recording. It has a blank description line and takes up 15% of my hard drive. I know this because I deleted every other program and 15% was still eaten up. The odd thing about it is that when I watch some other recorded program and then click on the info of the blank program it takes on that programs properties. (i.e. if I click play it is that program or if I try to delete it will delete my last watched program.)

Resetting it doesn't work. I just told them to swap it out with a new one. The first level CSR then gave me the spiel about bringing it back to where I bought it. I left it at that since the one I have isn't even the one I bought. They swapped it out 2 months ago.

Thanks.Paul, hit the MENU button twice to get to the configuration menu. You will see DVR. Click on that and one of the three choices is Future Recordings.

It only shows one day at a time so you need to scroll to the right.

Thanks Iceman...knew it was buried there somewhere. Gotta say my box has been very stable. Kinks seem to be worked out.

Cheers,
Paul

It has a blank description line and takes up 15% of my hard drive.I had that happen to me when they ran the upgrade on the DCT a while ago. I guess I was lucky that it allowed me to delete it with no problems. They can't format the drive? That seems like an essential option for a PVR with a Hard Drive in it.

Roger, you would think there was some sort of hard drive maintenance in the firmware. Maybe its there but we just can't access it. Anyway, its been 6 days since I last spoke to them. I'll probably call them again in a couple of days. They have to "consult" with Motorola.

Did you price match to get that price at Visions or what?

I am still within my price protection window at LD..
After seeing http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/images/smilies/wow.gif (http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=0&forumid=2#)$448 at Soundsaround quoting they were beating Visions, just walked into Visions and asked "6208, how much?" Man said $430, I says good to see you are already beating the guys down the road that are saying they beat you.http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/images/smilies/shootout.gif (http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=0&forumid=2#)... He says "I know..."

I come by later in the evening and pick up the box and ask if Visions will also do anything for their $50 credit coupon, (internet site) for purchases over $400... Man says "sorry that's just for retail... you understand" I agree.... he rings me in and writes on a card for the clerk.... 418 + GST... Me smilling all the way to my HDTV...http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/images/smilies/rockon.gif (http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=0&forumid=2#)

I am in love with my new DCT 6208 as far as functionality goes vs. the old 5100, but the fan noise is so great I sometimes unplug it when I'm not watching tv. The disadvantage of living in a quite area perhaps. I had a Shaw guy come and listen and he said they were all like that. He said another customer couldn't sleep because it was in his bedroom.
Any ideas such as a sound proof cabinet or spraying WD-40 into the fan ?
Is the 64xx series as loud ?

How loud is this thing? Why is it so loud? I have a Panasonic PVR/DVD and I cannot hear anything when it is recording even if the room is totally quiet. Are they just installing cheap fans or what?

It varies. I barely notice it because of its location in my tv stand. Others notice it quite a bit. Maybe it is variations in the quality and or installation of the fan. There's a thread that talks about changing the fan.

I found in my own experience that by attending a few too many Rock Concerts during my teen and young adult years, coupled with a good healthy dose of shooting many firearms within Her Majesty's Command, and working in manufacturing plants without protecting my ears, has resulted in NIHL (noise induced hearing loss) especially in the higher frequencies, and I don't even know there is a 6208 in the room except for the display and the HD picture....http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/images/smilies/wow.gif (http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=66439#)http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/images/smilies/rockon.gif (http://www.hdtvoice.com/voice/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=66439#)

I have a couple nagging questions about the 6208. Maybe some of you have the answers. Sorry if they've been asked previously, I've been away from this forum for a little while:

1. When I set my 6208 remote to TV mode, the channel UP/DOWN buttons still don't control the TV. Why? Can it be fixed?
I'm not sure if the PIP +/- at the bottom do this since I reprogrammed those to advance a week ahead in the guide.

2. If I am watching a TV show for 10 minutes then decide I want to record it and include the 10 minutes that already passed, can it be done? For example, if I watch a cooking show and realize that it looks really good and want to keep that recipe for reference, I would like to record it from the start (back 10 or 15 minutes). After that I beg my wife to cook it for me :)

Much appreciated!

The following may not apply to your 6208 as the remote and software can be cable supplier dependent.

1. For Shaw cable, the following keys are by default set to control the cable box and not the TV or VCR when the remote is in TV or VCR mode: keys 0-9, CH+, CH-, ENTER and LAST. This feature is called channel lock. Page 26 on the remote's User's Guide supplied by Shaw explains how to de-activate channel lock and how to re-activate if desired.

2. With regard to your question about recording after the fact, the issue has been discussed elsewhere on this forum but I don't rember what can be done and what can't. In fact I suspect that there will be posting on this thread addressing the issue.

Hello, I searched the thread and I found a post from November saying that the current S/W version was 70.51 and Frimware was 08.12 for the DCT6208, is that still true or is there newer version now... and if so what is it?

Thanks in Advance

Here in Kelowna, I still have S/W Ver. 70.51 and Firmware 08.12 on my 6208.

Does anyone know how to hide the bar when you press pause ... it often gets in the way of what is on the screen!

We have been recording some SD shows and PVR "list" shows that the show recorded as expected. When the play button is hit, it show there is 30 minutes of recording but it will not play. This problem happens 10-20% of the time and it started happening about a week ago. The recorded show cannot be fastforwarded, skipped (commercial skip), or played. This is not a "phantom recording" reported in this long thread, which I still get sometimes. We intend to record the show. Unlike the phantom recording, erasing the problem is not a problem. I have not contacted Shaw on this as yet. Anyone else seeing this problem? Is there an fix?
