Toronto: Sony TV: 2006 SXRD R50XBR1; as-is, $200
This is a long story if you’re not familiar with the saga that relates to this set. If you are interested, do a bit of research – give yourself some time to read through as there are lots of threads & sites. If you are willing you could end up with an excellent 50” TV.
If you google Sony SXRD Optical Block you’ll find that this model TV from 2006 has a design flaw that results in the set yellowing dramatically. Sony was aware of this, and as a result of a class-action lawsuit has offered original purchasers the option to replace the set at a greatly reduced price. I took this option – and still have the original set.
Living in a condo I have no use for both the replacement TV and the 2006 set. So I’m looking to get rid of it.
Aside from the yellowing, the set works fine. What is needed to fully restore it is replacement of the optical block. If you spend a few minutes on google you’ll find people who will replace or provide a new optical block. There are a number of reports that the picture quality on these sets is excellent once completed.
Note that Sony has no remaining responsibility for this set. I’m selling it as-is, for $200 – manual & remote included. If you are interested, PM me through this site or email me at torgreg AT gmail.com (of course, replace the AT with @).
