I am currently with bell, but I would like to switch to shaw cable or shaw direct.
My only problem with shaw cable is lack of channels, especially east coast feeds.
Shaw direct has a perfect channel line up, but they cant build a proper pvr.
So basically with the new merger could shaw cable add shaw direct channel line up?
I could be reaching here.
Not at all. Technically, there's no "merger"; there's just a loosening of CRTC regulations. It's already the same company.
Previously, the CRTC regulations prevented Shaw from bundling Shaw Direct satellite service with services offered through Shaw Cable (like internet and phone); this restriction was dropped. For more information about the CRTC decision, please view this thread: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=145805
You still need a satellite and a Shaw Direct box to receive the Shaw Direct channels; you need a cable connection and a Shaw Cable box to receive the Shaw Cable channels. That much isn't changing. What is changing, is you may now be able to bundle satellite, internet, and home phone, on a single Shaw bill.
Thats exactly what is happening, you can now bundle your Shaw Direct with Shaw Cable Internet and phone provided you live in a
"cable serviced" area. As the 2 companys run on different systems, you will still recieve 2 seperate bills but they can ensure that they will come on the same day and you will get a bundling discount.

It basically means the call centre in Calgary can all work together on the same floor, fielding calls from both cable and satellite.

Shaw cable also has a terrible pvr on all models due to the guide software.
and it wont mean any new channels anytime soon.
