Is there a charge for installation of the Gateway? I ask because I was chatting with a Shaw rep about the Gateway and she said that installation was free until the end of November. I didn't think to ask what the charge would be after November! I have Shaw cable and internet at the moment, if that makes a difference.

Finally took the plunge and signed up "all in" with Shaw (phone, inet and new gateway pvr). Tech did the install today but left before gateway provisioning was complete and Shaw continues to struggle getting me my channel package as they get me to reset gateway/portals.

So the final word was another tech needs to come out and this is the best part - they're not available until Dec 12.

Needless to say I'm quite frustrated. At this point I have no channels and no tech for two weeks. I've asked for an escalation but failing that am considering returning it. I love Shaw Internet and Phone and want badly to love their TV.

Any Shaw staff out there that can help with my provisioning?

Hi everyone. I am brand new to this forum. I recently installed a whole home custom AV system in a new home including in-wall wiring for AV and sound. This installation included a Shaw Gateway with 3 Total Home Portals. As we wanted to eliminate all exposed wires the Gateway is located in an A/V rack in a closet along with 2 of the 3 Total Home Portals. The 3rd Total Home Portal is located in my master bedroom next to the TV.

I am using a Logitech Harmony One remote (non-RF) in the Master Bedroom and the Total Home Portal in that room is working as expected.

I am using a separate Logitech Harmony 900 RF remote to operate each of the other 2 Total Home Portals. I recently discovered that if my wife and I are watching TV at that same separately in the two zones controlled by the RF remotes that any command sent on either RF remote will be performed on both Total Home Portals within the AV rack rather than just the specific desired Portal. This is of course extremely frustrating as it essentially means you can't watch these two TVs at the same time without causing havoc for the user watching in the other room.

To ensure it wasn't an issue with the Logitech remote setup I tried all three of the Shaw remotes included with the Total Home Portals and confirmed that any command sent from the remotes will operate all three Total Home Portals.

Though my setup is definitely not the most common setup one would see for the Shaw Gateway (most would have all Portals next to their respective TVs in each room) it is certainly not a unique one of a kind setup. I can see other customers with large connected rooms that may have multiple TVs/Portals int the same room which could be in range of the remote which could suffer from the same issue.

I saw one thread mention that there was a limitation noted on the inability to pair an individual Shaw remote to a specific Total Home Portals. Does anyone know if Shaw is working on addressing this issue? I don't want to have to move my Total Home Portals to be in the same room as the TV just to get around what I would see as a fairly significant limitation of the 'Shaw Gateway experience'.

Thanks

Does anyone have any PDFs on how to re-program the shaw gateway remote. Nothing in the boxes, searching here hasn't found anything, google nothing.. I've just added a yamaha sound bar to my setup, so looking to have the shaw gateway remote control the sound for that.

Is there anyway, like the old remotes for the PVRs, to be able to do tv/dvd/etc power offs?

Thanks!

The Shaw remote will only turn on your TV and AV receiver, no other component controls unfortunately. Most here have gone to the Harmony remote for control of our Home Theatres. My wife uses the Shaw remote to watch TV but that is about the only use the remote gets.

The "manual" is a folded piece of paper that came in the box, you have to look for it as it isn't really very visible.

farewell2ns, The lack of addressable remotes/cable boxes with Shaw has been one of the biggest complaints running and it seems they have continued this 'oversight' with the Gateway. Right now there is no information if this will change with the next generation of Portal or not but at least they will have IR extender capability so you could hide the Portal at each TV. Still no word on when we might see the next generation available for purchase.

Well, took the plunge and basically got the 808 promo today with 1 Gateway and 3 Portals. Most of my channels are not working and it says "To subscribe to this channel, please call . . " Called tech support and did a reboot, hoping the channels would show up and have booked another appointment for next week. Has anyone else had the same problem? Tech support is calling it a failed install.

Does anyone have any PDFs on how to re-program the shaw gateway remote. ...
Thanks!

I did a Google search with the following phrase: arris mp2000 manual , and it came up with some interesting results for the first 3 or so links. I downloaded the pdf and this (www.urcsupport.com/images/uploaded_images/M2000_Manual.pdf) is the link to it but you might want to have a look at the other info Google comes up with.

Check the 'Read this first' thread about the Gateway. There are several links there that should lead you to the posts with the answer. Also, you can search the forum.

Has anyone experienced any IR emitter issues with the MP2000 PVR. I have a Xantech IR emmiter kit that won't allow me to control the PVR. I've tried relocating the emitter to several locations on the box, but still no luck!!

The IR receiver eye is supposed to be just after the 'S' of the ARRIS logo on the left side of the face. I can just see, by shining a pen light at just the right angle, what looks like an IR eye about 1cm to the right of that 'S' in my Portals. Have you tried that spot?

Lyn2011: Likely the cable card was not bound properly which is causing the challenge. This should be easily corrected from the office. I'll PM you.

I have a harmony 890 with rf and I am able to control separate portals, but you need to set up each portal as a separate device and you need to use separate channels on your blaster unit.
I have one portal set up to use channel "A" and the other on "B"
Each device has it's own configuration, even though they are identical devices.

im a newb around here and was hoping for a little help. Sorry in advance if this is in the wrong place. is anyone running hdmi from the portal thru there receiver and to the tv? ive never had a problem with any of my previous shaw boxes, the pace box or the dcx3400. my receiver is only a year old and does hdmi 1.4 3d . its a pioneer vsx821k , but when shaw was here they were unable to get it to work so now im running hdmi direct to the tv and an optical cable to my receiver.

im just curious if anyone was able to get the the portal to run hdmi thru the receiver to there tv? any suggestions? ive been on the phone with shaw and pioneer and no one seems to be able to help me

Funny you should ask, I just installed a Denon AV receiver with 6 in 1 out, I have the Portal connected through it to my Samsung UN60D8000 and it works perfectly ;). I also have an XBox, PS3, Patriot Box Office and a Samsung BD player all are working (audio & video) seamlessly through my Harmony One remote.
