My Sharp Aquos 42" is only a 720p set. Do you have the actual model # so we can look up the specs on yours?

...don't wait three days before replacing the batteries on a remote that's only two months old and couldn't possibly have dead batteries yet... :)

When the bulk of the Gateway problems start to look like this one, I'll start to think about getting one. :)

I don't have any kids in my home, could that be it?

For me, I have a 15month old who does like to mash buttons on the remote (and record random shows in the process), plus the tv is the main one we watch so its usage is quite heavy but still you expect remote batteries to last more than a few months.

I am using some no-named batteries (alkaline though) which were bought on sale at the source so that could be it.

Either way is not a big deal, bur certainly interesting a few people seem to have noticed the same thing

I'm using harmony remotes almost exclusively now but, before setting up the harmony, I remember that the repeat rate on the supplied remote was quite fast so I wouldn't be surprised if many people are scrolling up and down the guide and channel lists one channel at a time just holding down the up/down buttons since it is fairly fast to do so. This sends many more commands through the remote than using ch up/down for page scrolling would send so I'm guessing this could have a bit to do with potentially faster battery usage. Just a thought.

It could be that the cheap batteries Shaw puts in the remotes initially (or that come with the remotes) just suck. Or maybe the backlight on the remote really drains the batteries. I had to replace my original batteries after about 2 months in the main remote. Current ones have been running for about 3 now with no issues. The batteries in the bedroom remote are still fine but it gets a lot less use.

I lost all sound on one of my portals yesterday. Had to power cycle the thing, then it worked fine. Bizarre! After having had mine for less than a week, I had the same experience.

A friend of mine has a little fella and they had to get a second remote and just took the batteries out so he gets the satisfaction of pressing the buttons but has no effect on the viewing experience.

I did the same for my son... however he seems to know which ones are "Daddy's" and which one is his... "Daddy's" are much cooler :)

I just told my kids not to touch it. Worked with them... Now my grandkids don't touch them either... I just told them not to... Or I would eat them!

the Dish box would be sweet. it more than likely includes Slingbox technology, which Dish bought a while back. I wouldn't expect these to be in Canada any time soon. Bell's DVR's are sourced from Dish, but as history shows, Bell gear is never the new and shiny stuff.
I have a Gateway now and had a dual-tuner Bell system before. I miss it. The multi-recording capability is good but so much of it is nasty. When you know what could be there, but isn't, you have to wonder if the Gateway designers made it bad on purpose.

Here is another cable company in the states about to take the plunge. I suppose its good that other cable operators are beginning to use it. Hopefully it will speed up the fixing of problems.

There are actually several other Canadian cablecos supposedly signing up for the same system too. This is all encouraging news in that the system should start to see some major improvements soon. Look for the next code to start showing up around the middle of this month.

I hope so. I didn't really have to many issues until the DST problem. Since then I've been getting the communication error occasionally. Last night it got so bad, every minute or so, I was tempted to hook up the old Moto box. But today its fine.

So not necessarily a gateway only issue...not sure just came to Shaw and only have experience with the gateway system. Why can Shaw throw up a channel like W Movies HD and have a channel Icon within 2 days while CBC, CTV, Global and CITI have no logo in the guide? Is this just a local issue for me in Winnipeg?

^^^ No, we don't have them here in Vancouver either... weird huh?

I just got my Gateway hooked up on Wednesday here on Vancouver Island and they all have icons for me. I do not have icons for CTV2 (Formerly A-Channel), or CHEK however, plus others I can not think of off hand. Most do though.

I also just got off friends chat with a rep and my main issues seem to be on the next firmware update notes. (Sluggish navigation, poor UI design, series recording issues, etc.) I suggested it might be nice if they had a public listing of these things. It would probably save them quite a few support calls. Of course not everyone would look there but for those of us who would, it would be nice to have.

Over all though, it beats the Pace box I had in many regards, short a scant few. Thankfully it sounds like it wont be too long for a resolution......I hope.

I'll believe the firmware upgrade is rolling out when I see it. This thing is one of the worst devices I have ever owned. If I ever released something like this in my business I would be out of work immediately. How Shaw constantly gets away with this is beyond belief. My internet has been down 3 times in 4 days and you can't even call them anymore. Recording says your call back time is greater than 2 hours. I can't sit around all day waiting for them to call back.

My gateway has to be rebooted two or three times a week as I loose large blocks of the guide, and I don't hide channels from the guide. I also have to reboot the gateway so I can watch some recorded shows; they show in the PVR Guide but you can't view them until you reboot.

I live in a Condo so don't have an option on who provides my service, if I did, it wouldn't be Shaw!

Golf Crazy; I totally agree with you.

After all the different PVR's I've used the Gateway system is the worst I've ever used.

Shaw totally dropped the ball on this system.
