I hadn't watched my bedroom TV since the firmware update until last night. When I turned it on I got the dreaded blank screen. After resetting all Portals and the Gateway I couldn't get a picture. Spent some time with Tech Support with no joy and scheduled a call for today. After two hours with a great tech he figured out that the new software doesn't support HDMI on my Protron TV. I have to use component cables. Bummer.

After two hours with a great tech he figured out that the new software doesn't support HDMI on my Protron TV. I have to use component cables.I'll admit I haven't read "all" the thousands of Gateway/Motorola/Pace posts, but I have never heard of a TV that doesn't work with the Gateway's HDMI... or any other TV that is incompatible with a Motorola/Pace DVR... is this common??? I know there are HDMI handshake issues etc... but still odd

jorton, If you had read them all, and there are hundreds, not thousands(at least the ones in the original Gateway thread), you would have seen the discussion about this previously.

Cabro, Your first point states you don't get the option 'at the end of a recording'. Pressing stop in the middle won't necessarily bring up the option but it should when you reach the end of one.

Hi Jorton. I agree, it sounds unlikely but I was with the tech almost the whole time. There was a good signal to the box but a blank screen on the TV until we switched to component cables. He even switched the box's output resolution using another TV with no joy.

Much snappier response generally but:

Empty guide grid on some portals.

No channels listed under 202 on another.

No reverse frame advance.

As I said in my original post, "Thousands" is a reference to the number of "Gateway/Motorola/Pace" posts, and I have probably read at least that many over my almost 4 years hanging around at Digitalhome.

I did also search the Gateway threads for HDMI issues before posting, none of which match this issue. The only issues I have seen re HDMI/Component video connections in the Gateway thread(s) have to do with Component and a "green screen", mode switching (resolution) and HDMI, audio issues with AVR's, none of which have to do with a TV that was deemed "incompatible" all together with the HDMI on the Gateway... and that was the reason for my comment that it was "odd" and my question,

is this common???

The answer to your question would seem to be: it doesn't seem so, at least not among the members of this forum anyway. It seems to be an issue with only certain brands of TVs or at least that is how it has been described so far.

EDIT: This isn't entirely the same thing but it is somewhat similar: #784 (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showpost.php?p=1276630&postcount=784) -maybe what you refer to as 'mode switching'?

There are a couple of posts that follow that one that mention HDMI issues with different brands as well.

My firmware was updated overnight. This evening I'm messing around with the menus to see what's changed, and I notice on the "scheduled to record" page that I have none showing that they will be recorded. It's entirely blank. Try all the reboots, etc and no change.

I actually have 42 separate series recordings configured and they still show up under "series options" and the priority list. Check the grid guide and none of the upcoming (tonight) season openers show the little timer icon that shows it's going to be recorded.

Time comes for the first one, and as expected it does not start recording, even though there is clearly a series recording set, channel is correct, other parameters are correct.

I spent the evening deleting all the previously set series, and re-entering them manually. Each one showed up in the scheduled recordings after I deleted and manually re-entered it with all the same settings.

It's a good thing I noticed this in advance, or tomorrow my wife would have thrown the whole system in the trash!

What a royal pain!!!

I had seen this too for the last couple days on channel 210. Reboots did not fix it, but the software update seems to have done it.

I saw that a lot before the update, Reboot, but I haven't seen it in the past couple of weeks after receiving the update. It would seem that particular issue may still be on the list of 'needs a fix'. I have already heard the next update will have something like 3 times as many 'fixes' as this current one did so perhaps this small bug will be among them.

A few posts have been moved to a new thread specifically dedicated to issues with installation and setup.

We can keep the focus here on firmware.

On advice from our Shaw guy I rebooted my Gateway last night after my recordings had finished, looks like the CTV time shift issue is now corrected.

Another anomaly, I went to set up Say Yes to the Dress for my wife, I have my defaults set to "1st run only". When I did my search by title, I selected the program on Channel 236 clicked ok, menu presented and I selected record series, right arrow to see options and changed "accept" to repeats, selected ok and close. The series would not set up, I tried this several times.

To get the series set up, when I got to the record series prompt I had to press ok at the "record series" prompt and the series set up with the defaults, then I had to go into the series settings, select the series and change the options to "repeats".

Can anyone else please confirm this bug?

1. Search by title
2. enter CSI
3. Select "channel 206 9/28 7:00-8:00 PM" and click "ok"
4. highlight "record series" and select right arrow to bring up the options screen
5. move to "accept" and click "ok"
6. highlight "repeats" and click "ok"
7. left series folder displays change to accept repeats in yellow
8. select "close.

the screen turns blue but no action is taken all I see is the current display top righ quater of screen and the time in the very top left of screen.

Note: my recording defaults in setup is set to "1st run only"

Same thing happen to me last night. I went to setup a series record for Big Bang and I just could not get it to work, had to do the work around you mentioned.

Ok, I found out the issue (with help). Item 8. don't select "close" you must reselect "Record Series" from the list of options.

I guess I am on a learning curve

I believe I ran into that even before the software update. I think it's been like that all along...but still needs to be fixed.

I agree, once you select your option and it displays in the folder options, it should not matter if you select close, the change should remain or you should get an option to record series, yes/no.
