Berty 2011-12-15, 07:47 PM Anyone still suffering with the missing guide info and looking for a workaround.
All my missing channels were at the highest of my HD channels. Today with the new channels I was now seeing the ones I had previously been missing. Of course the new ones weren't displaying.
So, into the settings/channel list menu I went and added 300-307 (some PPV stuff) and now all my channels are showing except the Galaxy ones and some lower SD channels but that's not a big deal and my guide is now useable.
Of course this has to be done on each portal with marked off channels in the settings menu.
brendand 2011-12-16, 12:34 AM I'm still having the same problem with the missing channels in the guide after the update last night.
Jetranger 2011-12-16, 01:46 AM I did a power cycle on my Gateway tonight and that got the new channels to show up, finally. Two of my four Portals are still not on the new software though.
Jetranger 2011-12-16, 08:39 PM It looks like another day made all the difference. The remaining two Portals are now up to date so now I can pay more attention to what the update has brought us.
virtualrain 2011-12-16, 09:00 PM Just got my Gateway and two Portals installed.
After the tech was done with the install, I checked the software versions and they were old - older than the versions people are talking about recently on here.
It seems pretty straightforward to update them though... I just went into Account Status and selected "Update Software". That caused the network light on the Gateway to flash for a while and then it rebooted itself. I had to cycle the power on the Portal after the Gateway was done rebooting and then both were showing the latest software version.
I then went and repeated this process on the other Portal. As you'd expect that didn't require a reboot of the Gateway since it was already up to date... just a reboot of the Portal. Now it too, has the latest version.
And, as expected, there is no "Update Software" option available under Account Status now.
The only quirk I'm seeing after an hour or two of use is that the Portal connected to my Sony AV Receiver seems to have some slight issues with audio over HDMI when it starts up or after the system has been off for awhile. The Receiver display keeps flashing like it's constantly establishing a new audio connection with the Portal. It clears up as soon as a TV program gets playing.
Jetranger 2011-12-16, 09:08 PM My problem was the 'update software' option wasn't showing up in the Account menu so I couldn't select it to force the update. I had to wait 'till today for it to show on the one that hadn't updated and then I was able to do the push myself.
Well, today our available disk space spontaneously increased by 12% ... we lost several folders with about 200 programs.
OK. I did some analysis. Only folders were affected, not single programs or movies.
My gateway box [U]DUMPED all programs in folders that were more than three weeks old !!!
Where a series hasn't aired in the last three weeks, the folder has completely disappeared. *
I've lost entire seasons of several programs but for the last two or three episodes of those currently airing.
I calculate that I've completely lost almost 400 programs.
* The ONLY exceptions are series that have the "Expire Flag" set to "Never".
Jetranger 2011-12-17, 05:04 PM * The ONLY exceptions are series that have the "Expire Flag" set to "Never".
Could that be the answer to not losing them next time? Anything set to be deleted 'when space is needed' is game for the system to remove, even if there is 'plenty' of room left. I'm getting tired of having to 'accept' the extra step when I am setting a future series recording that will affect programs out as far as 2 weeks away. I only have about 40% of my available recording space used and I watch and delete many programs on a daily basis.
It looks like the system takes into account all of the recordings that have been set but doesn't make any allowances for the ones you are watching and deleting on a regular basis. It seems some parts of this system programming are 'smart' and yet others are still 'dumb'.
Jetranger 2011-12-17, 05:12 PM Hi folks, we were wondering has there been anyone who has had the recent code load and experiencing major issues?
PS. Thanks Jetranger you are a star!
Thanks, Shaw Champ.
I do see some improvements with this update but not all of the reported 'fixes' are 'perfect'. I still get the slightest bit of 'stutter' when going from a recording back to live TV and also the 'live' channel doesn't come up when stopping a recording. I think that is what was described in the 'fix list' I posted.
One thing that seems to have been made worse is the Search tool is now excruciatingly slow to accept remote inputs and it even seems to affect the program playing in the PIP window. I don't know how this could have happened but it's almost like the processor has been overloaded with each button press adding a letter to the title search.
One thing that does seem to have been fixed is I don't get the 'cannot connect' error any more, so it's not all bad news.
I'll post on this again once I have had more time with this update.
The "Expire" flag is *NOT* the same as the "Keep" user-set parameter found under Recording Options.
The "Expire" flag is set by Shaw (or someone further up the line) and can be found by looking at the "Info" data on your individual recordings.
I calculate that I've completely lost almost 400 programs.Well, I really don't know what is going on with this box!@#$%^&
As of now, some twenty-ish hours later, it *appears* that all of the "missing" folders and programs are back.:confused:
Is it possible that the gateway box lost its mind and simply had to rebuild the directory??
If that is the case, is it overwriting/corrupting the disk contents as it continues to write to the disk in the meanwhile?!
Jetranger 2011-12-17, 05:22 PM I don't believe anyone else sets the 'expire' flag. I understand it is set by the parameters you choose when you set the recording. The 'expire' notice is a visual warning to you that the program will be deleted in the future and you should watch it or change the status before it is removed. At least this is how I have come to understand it. I could be wrong.
Jetranger 2011-12-17, 05:24 PM Didn't you have this happen before? Are you getting power surges or something that might be messing it up temporarily? Do you have a cat that likes to go behind your equipment and play with your wires or that lays on the boxes because they are warm an is then 'overheating' them?
I'm just grasping at straws here trying to think of what might be causing your troubles.
Ehmand 2011-12-17, 08:51 PM I had the same issue as Cavu. After the last update, I lost about a third of all my recordings - just disappeared. A day later about half of them came back, but I'm still missing a bunch.
BTW, the update was a major problem for me. My system was dead for at least 18 hours - black screen - Cannot find Gateway, etc. Reboot after reboot did not fix it. Then for about 6 hours I had a total of about 5 channels, all in the wrong place - the rest were all blank.
Seriously unhappy with SHAW these days.
sixpac 2011-12-18, 12:06 AM Not being able to see what version of firmware the gateway/portals are on is a major drag.
Is there anyway to do this? I don't even know what firmware I have on any of my equipment. 4 portals/1 gateway.
Jetranger 2011-12-18, 12:47 AM If you can't follow the instructions that have already been provided then you really shouldn't be going in there as the risk is far greater than the reward.
Try pressing the Skip Fwd button several times while watching a recording and if you don't get the 'Cannot connect to Gateway' error screen, your system has likely received the update. If you are having other problems, post them here and we can maybe have someone contact you to have a look at your boxes on the system.
Susido 2011-12-18, 05:06 AM I find it ironic that the very first thing that Shaw technical support on the phone had me do to diagnose my dysfunctional Gateway system was to access that hidden service menu. Just saying...
Bobafart 2011-12-18, 10:36 AM is this the update that turns the system into a wifi router for extended wireless range in your house?
downbeat 2011-12-18, 12:34 PM @Susido: But that's just the point. They are doing it with you — you are not just fiddling around with it without direction from Shaw.
Jetranger 2011-12-18, 12:41 PM Bobafart; No, that should be in the next full code release that will come in the new year, hopefully in the first quarter. There are some 'issues' that are having to be corrected before it can be released.
cavu; This issue of recordings disappearing and then reappearing is a known one and is supposed to be addressed in the next full code release. See above comment for timing.
