: CLOSED — Shaw Gateway: Code update to iS2 & iS2+ (See final post)
Reboot 2011-09-21, 06:59 PM Just got my new Gateway box (replacement) up and running a quick check and I am running iS2 firmware. So far I have had to restart twice to install update software (but I think the second was due to the tech loading the tool twice).
I have removed unwanted channels, and remote is showing all desired channels. I had no problem setting up 18 series recordings, time will tell if they have corrected recording issues previously noted here. I do see that the Portal time is 1 minutes behind my Moto 6412 bos.
I am happy to be back and having an operating Gateway, it has been a long three weeks :D
FracturedLogic 2011-09-21, 07:38 PM El Gorbo,
When I checked last night, I was sure that I could do a frame advance by pausing and then pressing the next button on the remote.
Jetranger 2011-09-21, 08:13 PM On Motorola boxes the frame advance is done by pressing pause repeatedly. On the Gateway system the 'Next' button is used to achieve the frame advance. It's just one of many differences that take quite some time to get used to. I am still making mistakes like this.
amosnov 2011-09-22, 12:23 AM Hi Reboot, on what basis did Shaw swap out your gateway? When you say your gateway failed, how dead do you mean? Hoping to hear your expander problems solved.
Our gateway system "died" yesterday, total video outage, all the normal blue LEDs were on but I had to do a power recycle on the gateway to get it back working. Haven't had to power recycle the gateway for a few weeks.
Jetranger 2011-09-22, 02:09 AM I have another issue that has been present in the system since I got it and that is there are sometimes 'double glitches' in the audio and picture during the last 30 seconds or so of different recordings. I first noticed it regularly happening at the end of America's Got Talent and I think I have mentioned that previously. Tonight, it happened at the end of Modern Family and also the night before with Parenthood.
I guess I will have to set the 3400 to record some of these same shows to see if it is in the originating signal or the Gateway system. I think I have already determine it is something to do with the Gateway but I will do some further testing just to make certain.
Even with this and the other issues I have mentioned, for the most part there have been some major improvements with iS2 and the system does operate much more smoothly and, so far, reliably. Another week or two should make me feel more confident about it but so far so good.

brendand 2011-09-22, 04:51 AM I still have the missing channels in the grid guide even after the update.
Is there a way to fix this?
YYCPetey 2011-09-22, 07:45 AM Update installed in Calgary, 5:30 Thursday am.

Same here. A large blank gap in the guide between CH230 and 3 even though not all of those channels have been deselected. Looks like it is still not completely fixed. Seems OK below CH230. I have noticed that the Guide will get confused some times and suddenly jump back to CH3 from wherever I was even though I have not pressed any buttons. Guide seems more responsive so far.
Jetranger 2011-09-22, 10:16 AM As a suggestion to those having the 'missing channels in the guide' issues, maybe try restoring all of them and then do a power cycle of all boxes. This should allow a 'clean' reset and you can then go back and remove the channels you don't want and see if there has been any change.
As I posted previously, I have not been able to reproduce this issue since the iS2 code was loaded but I also did not have any channels removed prior to it being installed. Give it a try and let us know what happens.
Cabro 2011-09-22, 10:51 AM Firmware update has fixed the majority of the issues I was seeing. The two main ones for me that still remain are the following.
1) Option to delete or keep show doesn't show up at the end of watching a recording (intermittent).
2) Portal doesn't always wake up. I have to change the input on my TV from HDMI to Component and then back for it to "wake up" from idle. I have one portal hooked up through HDMI and the other hooked up through Component. Both exhibit the same problem intermittently. It seems to happen more often the longer the TV has been off.
Reboot 2011-09-22, 11:18 AM Very VERY happy to report since my Gateway box was changed yesterday that other than a few missing channel icons (that I expect will show up in the next day or so), the system is working just fine with iS2.
Woke up this morning, started the activity on my Harmony One remote, tapped "ok" and the system woke up as deigned, took a look and 4 recordings recorded, all complete. I am very happy with the menu response time, barely any hesitation or stalling noticed. I have the Portal display turned off as I find the blue very annoying and even with it on I must be a foot from the thing to read the time (that is the most annoying thing I can report (thankfully)).
roopster77 2011-09-22, 12:25 PM I am happy to report that the clock is now in sync with the real time. This seems to have occurred overnight and I can happily put the "Start on Time" as my choice and I won't be missing the first couple of minutes of a show.
The only problem that remains, and it is a minor one, is missing channels in the old "grid" guide. I am going to wait this out and see if it fixes itself.
Since the original install, done as soon as it was available in Vancouver, I have not power cycled my equipment to repair anything. There is definite improvement since the code update, but I am a little sad it just did it without asking me... It would be nice to control something in this house... The dogs don't even listen...
Jetranger 2011-09-22, 12:49 PM ...
1) Option to delete or keep show doesn't show up at the end of watching a recording (intermittent).
You can try pressing 'Stop' and the options should show up. This is just a work around but it at least gets you the choice.
2) Portal doesn't always wake up. ...
Have you tried pressing OK or a channel change to wake it up? I'm just wondering as I think one or the other of those has worked for me in the past but I haven't had this happen in quite some time now.
sibble-comp 2011-09-22, 03:01 PM Just to be clear, I am not refering to the list of shows that have already recorded but to the submenu options showing shows that will record that day and the full list of scheduled recordings themselves.
Reboot 2011-09-22, 03:05 PM Yes this has been discussed, the current display very confusing, you have to move up the menu to see scheduled recordings in date order (backwards thinking), and yes I would like to see it in alphabetical order, even in folders for series with several recording set. A definite wish list item :D
sibble-comp 2011-09-22, 03:12 PM Actually I'd generalize my wish to be, ALL listings of shows under any menu/submenu should allow multiple sort formats
by date
by time
alphabetically
by newest first
by oldest first
by channel
other criteria as needed
nobandwidth 2011-09-22, 06:45 PM hey people,
ordering a vod movie on a portal, freezes other portals and displays "please check your cable connection or call shaw....." software is current with new versio, channel up/down doesn't fix.
any ideas? i haven't seen this in history....
sorry if I've missed it somewhere....
thanks
SnowGoose 2011-09-22, 06:49 PM Thanks, Shaw called me back and I have a service call scheduled for tomorrow.I'm confused, WayneB2 - you're in Victoria and you've already received the iS2 update??
Cabro 2011-09-22, 07:01 PM 1) Option to delete or keep show doesn't show up at the end of watching a recording (intermittent).
You can try pressing 'Stop' and the options should show up. This is just a work around but it at least gets you the choice.
Tried pressing 'Stop' half way through a recording and no option to 'delete' or 'keep', just took me back to the recording list. Only happens sometimes
2) Portal doesn't always wake up. ...
Have you tried pressing OK or a channel change to wake it up? I'm just wondering as I think one or the other of those has worked for me in the past but I haven't had this happen in quite some time now.
Tried the 'OK' button and didn't work. Will try the 'channel change' button when I get home to see if that works.
