Mobilicity today announced, what I think, is its first contract.
Under new plan, available beginning this Wednesday.
Free BlackBerry Curve 3G smartphone with the purchase of a 12-month $55 Multi-Month plan which costs $470.
The plan comes with a year of unlimited local talk, unlimited text and picture messaging, unlimited data, unlimited global text messaging, unlimited Canadian and U.S. long distance, voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, 3-way calling and BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS).

You can cancel the multi-month plan with $55 cancellation penalty. People may abuse this promotion and get a BB Curve for $55 by changing the $55 to $25 plan the next day.
Hugh, this is not a contract. Dave Dobbin said publicly that Mobilicity does not want credit check on customers. There is no refund of the 12 months pre-pay service. You only get credit in your account for future services. We will know the details Wednesday.
The monthly cost for the $55 multi-month plan is $35.75/m = $429 NOT $470/m
There is a BIS charge of $5 per month since this a BB Curve. Total cost is $40.75/month. Total cost is $489/year with free phone.

Staying true to its promise to find smart, new ways to significantly bring down the cost of wireless, Mobilicity today revealed that it will launch its best mobile phone deal to date on Wednesday – a Free BlackBerry Curve 3G smartphone with the purchase of a 12-month $55 Multi-Month plan.
For only $469.99 – the equivalent of $1.29 a day – the special gift-with-purchase promotion delivers instant savings of $299.99 (the current price of the BlackBerry smartphone) and packs unprecedented value. The plan comes with a year of unlimited local talk, unlimited text and picture messaging, unlimited data, unlimited global text messaging, unlimited Canadian and U.S. long distance, voicemail, caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, 3-way calling, plus the popular BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS).
I read that as a Smartphone plus 12 months of wireless + BIS for $470.
FWIW, you may not call it a contract but when you are locked into 12 months, that sure sounds like a contract to me. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck ..........
