Many posts discussing specific issues with the CBC's Toronto transmitter have been moved to the Toronto Station Status (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=134969) thread.

Was checking tonight's OTA recording of Corrie for other issues from CBLT-DT Toronto, and noticed that the logo appeared different prior to taking it's usual form... Noticed it started out as a DV symbol used to denote Descriptive Video before morphing into it's regular shape.

Switched audio streams, and viola, a described Coronation Street was heard, in mono, but described non the less. Thanks!

An audible comment prior to the start of a described program would alert those who cannot see the screen bug to the fact that a described version can be had.

Nice touch CBC...

Anybody else having poor audio quality on the Stampede chuckwagons on CBC? The audio is fairly quiet compared to usual on CBC and some of the announcers sound like they are in a shower. (Watching on CBLT OTA)

Update: The audio improved over the course of the broadcast.

I have two LG tvs and an older tv with a Zinwell convertor. EPG comes in on the zinwell all the time, while both LGs show EPG only on extremely rare intances.

Is anyone getting reliable EPG on any LG tvs? Im just thinking if we can figure out a list of tv manufacturers that is having problems vs ones that aren't, might be able to figure out what is missing to make it work.
I have the same problem with my recent model LG 3D LED. The info of 5-1 does work in Samsung now..but a few months after analog shutdown.

I posted in another thread that TVO's program guide is finally fixed and worked in both my Samsung and LG.

OTOH, after analog shutdown, these 2 channels (5-1 and 25-1) not only dropped from 1080i to 720p but also screwed up big time in these basic guide info etc. I know they cannot be blamed 100% because other TVs (like an old Akai plasma) can pick up the info no problem.

Seriously, the other 20 OTA channels have absolutely no problem...just CBC 5-1 and 25-1...how hard is it to fix it ?

PPL4GOLF, take a look back on about page 28 of this thread, post 418 onwards for a conversation by between majortom and myself on this topic. There's a couple of tests you can do:

- check to see if it works on WUTV Buffalo (since it also uses the moving PID for EIT-0) on consecutive EIT time blocks (eg. 5 to 8, 8 to 11 - either AM or PM works).
- check CBLT 5-1 Thursday 11am to 2pm

These results are helpful in determining what your gear is not happy with.

Thanks E G C !
That was a good read troubleshooting the culprit and hope someone would pick it up and try to fix it.
Slight off topic : what was fixed in TVO 19-1 the past week? The EPG is working now. The problem may well be similar to 5-1.

Just noticed something odd while looking at TSReader:

- SRC's system time is 5 minutes fast
- CBC's system time is 5 minutes slow

Perhaps initially one was out and the attempt to correct it put the other one out?

As for why I was looking at TSReader in the first place, CBLT's program info is absent from the PSIP again (EIT/ETT totally missing)

Looks like Marc hasn't posted in the forum for a while but if he's reading, I give his crew a huge thanks! :D

Hopefully we'll see it on CBLFT again soon too.

Update to post 377, I see program guide data for CBLFT for the first time in well over a year. :D

I've notice some intermittent issues with both CBC's and SRC's program info for the past few days. CBC's is now stable. SRC's is not. I think I see why now. The key is in the MGT (Master Guide Table).

As you can see below, CBC has 56 EIT and 56 ETT PIDs. But for SRC, there are only 10 ETT PIDs. When the time of the week hits a missing PID, the program info disappears then reappears when time hits a present PID.

Earlier this week CBC had many missing PIDs too. Looks like it's fixed and will be stable for a while.

Here's CBC:

I've notice some intermittent issues with both CBC's and SRC's program info for the past few days.

Have you seen this in multiple cities? If not it should be posted in the station status thread for the city the stations are in. This thread is for network wide issues not for local issues.

El Gran Chico

Isn't CBC's master control centralized? If it's an issue one station wouldn't it likely be an issue for the others? Since I'm only within reach of one CBC and one SRC station to do a TSReader scan, perhaps others could do the same for others.

There would be no easy way to compare the samples if they all existed in local station threads.

Master control (video switching etc) may be centralized, but I believe PSIP generation is done locally (though I could be wrong) since each transmitter has different fixed parameters.

Marc

It is all centralized: programs, commercials, ATSC encoding, Dolby Digital encoding, EPG...
Toronto for all English services, Montreal for French.

So is it true that CBLFT has program info, or am I misunderstanding? I've never seen it with my Zinwell converter, but have seen it on all the other channels in the area that have added it (including CBLT).

English and French services were having EPG issues over the last few days.
I see guide info on both Toronto signals right now.

Thanks. I noticed CBLT lost program info for a couple days a few days ago, but I still have no program info on CBLFT right now and haven't noticed it before (since the digital switch, anyway). I don't speak French so I don't watch it often, but I've never noticed the program info while surfing channels and passing it.

orbot, I've noticed some subtle differences in the PSIP between English and French. Interesting that your Zinwell may be sensitive to that subtlety. If I grab some time in the next few days I'll try to capture it. I can confirm both English and French program as available at this writing.

FWIW, my inlaws' Zenith converter can't handle either English and French - I believe some LG tuners are in the same boat. Majortom and I had a discussion on this topic a few pages ago in this thread that we ***SPECULATED*** it was due to CVCT being present (because it's not present in any other PSIP in our area) which we believe is legal ATSC so it's a firmware bug (that will never get fixed :-( ). Then there's also the separate EIT-0/lowest PID issue (that my RCA converter has) which is clearly a firmware bug since many broadcasters do it that way.
