This thread is for reporting the operational status of television stations and networks in New Brunswick and eastern Maine, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador.
Also for stations in Eastern Quebec (Lower St. Lawrence, Lower North Shore).
Please do not post reception reports here. Instead, use the reception thread covering the same region (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=41143).

Official confirmation that CTV Altantic will be AWOL in Moncton untill at least September 8th. I'm pretty sure I sprained my back trying to catch that channel with my rabbit ears in my window (although the HD TV induced lack of exercise might have something to do with that as well ;) ).

You'd think the delay would be the kind of info that would be on the CTV Atlantic web site. Almost as if they want to keep it a secret from advertisers.

CBC in St. John's was off the air earlier today, and I hear they have had some other outages as well. Guess they still have issues to work out. Unsure if they're trying to improve the poor signal in some parts of town or not.

Apparently the Dolby Digital 5.1 audio on CBAT-DT Fredericton is messed up. Can anyone confirm?

It should also be noted that CBAT-DT is not properly broadcasting their channel ID. When I check the channel on my HDHomeRun, it takes forever for the channel ID to finally populate. CTV and Global are near instant to show their ID and the channel mapping.

I am experiencing both mentioned problems with CBC Fredericton, CBAT-DT.

The apparent channel number seems to bounce between 4.1 and 31.1 As I change channels up and down, it will sometimes appear at one number, other times the other. I often experience a long delay before the channel "appears" after changing to it.

The only audio channel I can access for CBC is the one with the described video. My TV (a cheap 17" Audiovox) doesn't "see" any other audio channels available, so the TV control that is supposed to toggle between audio channels has no effect.

I wasn't sure if my problems were related to limitations with the TV/tuner I am using, or an issue with the broadcast. Interested to hear I am not alone.

I often experience a long delay before the channel "appears" after changing to it.

The only thing saving me is that it is processed by my HDHomeRun and SageTV. In Sage, I force the tuning of the physical channel and I have the channel remapped to the guide data for the old analog channel. (Guide data is still not straight at Zap2It which is where SageTV and also Windows Media Center get their data.)

Anyone have any info on CBC here in St. John's?

I've heard that they have been experiencing problems with their new Digital OTA signal. They are on the air, but even in my home very close to the tower I can barely pick it up, let alone other places in the city. What a disaster..

I have not been able to receive Fredericton's CBC on channel 31. I live in Keswick Ridge and am located on the west side of the ridge (and I realize that this could be the problem). I have good antennae on a tower and use a rotor and a pre-amp. This allows me to get excellent reception of CTV, Global, WAGM (2 signals) and PBS (3 signals). I do get the currently broadcasted analog CBC (4) from Saint John but they have reduced its power to the point that it the picture is seriously degraded.
I phoned CBC a couple of weeks ago and the person there said that the Fredericton transmitter was undergoing repairs. I called again yesterday and was told that as far as they know it is transmitting. I wish there was a web site or a person one could get a definitive answer from.(I do check on ALL of the popular web sites but question their being up -to-date.) I keep asking because #1 I want to know, and #2 I want CBC to know that there is interest and need for continued support of OTA transmissions.
So, if anyone reading can confirm that they ARE transmitting, then I shall continue my quest. I do realize that they are transmitting at a very low power compared to CTV and Global, but I am only 11 or so miles away.
Thanks in advance. And thanks for this wonderful site.

I can confirm that it is still up and running. I am on the north face of McLeod Hill about 340 ft ASL.

They do indeed broadcast at a lower power than Global so that may be a source of issues.

Just a thought but you may want to ask who their on-site tower contractor is - if there's repairs the tower company may know the status and expected timeline to greenlight full power better than the station.

Anyone having issues with signal stability from CTV Saint John here in the Fredericton market or anywhere else where it may be picked up?

It is all over the map and breaking up a lot for me over the last couple days.

No issues with the locally located CBC or global so I doubt it is an issue on my end.

Actually my issue has been Global. CTV has been fine.

Well, that sucks...

Maybe the rain messed something up on their tower. I can only hope it clears up...

CBC DT in my area is again on the fritz. The signal strength is all over the place. All afternoon the picture was full of streaks, dropouts and freezing. The sound is mostly out, maybe a second or two on the off and picture freezing! This crap started a couple weeks ago, then got better for a while now, today is the worst I have seen it.

Anyone else in the St. John's area seeing this?

I sent an e-mail, but I thing it goes to national, not local so it was probably ignored.

The NTV DT station is fine. CBC was always a rock steady signal normally near maximum on my tuners, now all over the place!

I haven't seen any mention of this, but the Newfoundland Broadcasting Corporation has made an application to amend the broadcasting licence for the English-language television station CJON-DT (St. John’s) in order to multicast its radio station CHOZ-FM St. John’s on a sub-channel of CJON-DT.

A decision is expected this week by the CRTC.

This could be our first non-SD sub-channel in Canada (though it will be an audio-only radio station).

I was under the impression they were already doing that.
