: Shaw Direct V 06.22 Firmware (see post #171 for Shaw response)

On 06.22. The only glitch and pixellation is on pre release recordings, so far.-WRONG!!!! Now Global news Vancouver is garbage. What a useless release. Still a piece of junk. That's why "support" has disappeared from here, because the company can't face their own customers.
Does not seem slow or anything. The check mark is a plus to avoid deleting an unwatched program just because something new started recording and it comes to the list on the wrong item. At least now I might not delete the wrong item because it won't have a check mark.

Last night I did a front panel reset just as a matter of course. At 7, I tuned to the race on TSN-HD. My timers which were set for other shows at 8 and 9 appeared to kick in normally.
I couldn't stay up to the end of the race so I turned off the tv. Woke up later and turned it back on to see if the race was over yet. My bedside clock said 11:30, but the clock on the 630 was frozen at 11:00. Turned on the tv, and the picture was frozen as well, although the audio was still playing. Apparently something happened at exactly 11 to freeze both the picture and the clock display.
Front panel reset seemed to restore everything. For now.
Ever since receiving my 6.22 update I have noticed that the subject line on the system status screen is in the loading mode. Has anyone else experienced this? After speaking to customer service they said this should correct itself after a period of time. The only performance issue seems to be that the guide data is not loading after day 10.

Apparently something happened at exactly 11 to freeze both the picture and the clock display.
Had this happen with 4.06 so obviously THAT hasn't been fixed. I lost part of a Nascar race recording when it froze.
I also dozed off during the mid point of the race but I stuck with it. Everyone who was in got in and those outside stayed there. Now the field is reseeded and off we go.

Just got off the phone with a helpful SD support person named Dave.
I had read in the other board that one poster had been told that with the new upgrade, PVR recordings over 30 days old would be deleted automatically. Dave spoke to his supervisor, and (according to him) this is NOT the case. Deletions would continue as needed when the hard drive is full, unless the program has been protected.
So my next question was how to remove protection on the dozen or so movies I had protected on my hard drive, without deleting them. And there seems to be no way to do that.
I re-enabled the 4 x 3 override which was causing so many problems before, and it seems to be behaving. So far. Fingers crossed.
I apologize if this has been posted elsewhere but I noticed that the user manual online has been updated as of June 24th to version 06.17 and higher....and includes information on the new smart record options.
He really hadn't much to offer on the random repeat recordings that occurred a day or two after I received the update.... or the freeze-up last night at 11:00 precisely. Hopefully these are both anomalies which will not become commonplace.

PVR recordings over 30 days old would be deleted automatically.
Under recordings/options, the choice given is "Keep until" ...space is needed" or "Forever". Also, why would you decide to unprotect a recording without deleting it?

why would you decide to unprotect a recording without deleting it?
A for instance: Today I want to record something if there is room for it but I want to keep everything on my HD, so I must protect everything. Several days down the road, I have not had time to watch things but I now want to record something that will take precedence over something else still on my HD but now protected. My options are to delete this something else, perhaps unnecessarily, or to take the chance that there is room on the HD for what I definitely want to record. If I could unprotect it, it would only be deleted if necessary to record the required event.

I just protected a bunch of stuff in panic mode... and then wondered how I would remove that protection. After all, if it comes to something I want to keep, and one of my wife's many Christmas shows....Well, he who has the power to delete, rules! lol.
On another note, Saturday night (the same night that my 630 froze up at 11 pm sharp), I had made two recordings - one and 8 and one at 9. Both show up as completed recordings, of proper length. However ONE of them (and I haven't figured out if it was the first or second one, but I suspect it was the 9 pm one) would NOT play back past the 6 minute mark. Once it hit a certain spot in the playback, it would drop us back to live tv. I tried fast-forwarding, even manually keying in a time past the playback problem, and it would NOT play. Very frustrating since it was the season finale of Torchwood. However, there are two repeats this week and I have timers set for both of them. Fingers crossed.

would NOT play back past the 6 minute mark
Yes, that is true to form. Even if you initiate a reboot after you notice the lockup, it will then continue to record the program but replay will refuse to go by the lockup point. That was under 4.06.

Well, as stupid as this seems, with this new update, the HDMI does NOT always mirror the YPbPr output.
For example, if I go to System Options and bring up my System Status screen, via the HDMI output I get the normal screen one would expect.
HOWEVER, on via the YPbPr out, I have nothing but regular programming.
This could be a major issue during setup, troubleshooting or for people that ACTUALLY use the YPbPr output (including ALL HD Slingbox users).

I have a 605 which is connected to an HD Slingbox via YPbPr. I am also running 6.22. I just checked it, and I am seeing my System Status screen just as with previous versions. I also tried hooking up an HDMI monitor at the same time to this 605, and I still saw the System Status over YPbPr. Is yours a 600, 605, or 630?

I believe this thread is primarily for the 630....

I really like the fact that I no longer have to change channels to delete a recorded event. I have not noticed anything negative since the upgrade. There has been no pix-elation and the PQ has been excellent! Hopefully this will continue into the future.

Some things I've noticed.....I looked online and found that The Amazing Race starts on Sept 25....so, I thought I'd do a search to set my recordings of it....nada....so then I LABOUROUSLY scrolled ahead to the 25th, and I see "no data".......so, clearly we are not getting 14 days of guide as promised, also, scrolling the guide is definately much slower than it used to be.....very disappointed in this machine...

Well 6.22 has done nothing much for me that I can tell.
I guess I get to choose "smart record" which sounds really "smart"
though I'm not sure what is supposed to be better about it
It didn't solve my HDMI connection being lost all the bloody time.
I'm still having to unplug/plug my HDMI cable every other time I turn on my TV.
I have noticed that the guide is slower and that we're not getting 14 days anymore too.
The only positive thing I can say is that the search function is faster and not being stuck waiting for recording events to schedule is nice, though the darn "scheduling" box showing up all the time is a bit annoying.
Pretty disappointing upgrade -- guess that's why there were no insiders here touting it's release.
The guide being slower is a real pain...reminds me of going back to Windows 95...

This info is from the updated manual on the Shaw Direct website
I thought there was something about being able to smart record a movie in SD or HD at the first available time... but I can't find it.
SMART RECORD NEW EPISODES: Each time a first-run episode of the selected program airs, it will be automatically recorded. This creates a Smart recurring Recording Event.
SMART RECORD ALL EPISODES: Each time any episode of the selected program airs, it will be automatically recorded. This creates a Smart recurring Recording Event.
SMART RECORD THIS PROGRAM: This movie will be recorded at the first available time. This creates a Smart one-time Recording Event.
RECORD THIS AIRING: When this specific episode or movie airs, it will be recorded at this time. This creates a one-time Recording Event and will take priority over any existing Recording Events for that time. You can also press the RECORD button from within the Guide to set a one-time Recording Event.

I joined the forums just to post my experience with the HD630 PVR so far.
I got this as an "upgrade" from the old PVR receiver...don't get me started on that thing. I have to say the 630 is a vast improvement over the old receiver...that is, until this new firmware came out!!
What is going on now?!
I get these random "scheduling" bars appearing every couple of hours while I'm trying to relax and watch some TV, or now, even better I get this enormous message in the middle of the screen saying:
Loading please wait a moment...
WHY Shaw, why???
Also, the guide, which is supposed to be faster now, takes SO much longer to scroll to each new page, what kind of ridiculousness is that supposed to be? Why not be HONEST and say on the upgrade page:
"Checkmark next to already views shows in your PVR list!"
"Guide is slower"
"You'll get random messages on your screen that you can't get rid of unless you turn the unit off and back on!"
That would at least be honest, and funny. How it stands now, it's not funny. Considering I paid $700 for my original PVR and then ANOTHER $99 for this one, AFTER I traded in my old unit!! So fed up at this point.

This info is from the updated manual on the Shaw Direct website
• SMART RECORD THIS PROGRAM: This movie will be recorded at the first available time. This creates a Smart one-time Recording Event.
• RECORD THIS AIRING: When this specific episode or movie airs, it will be recorded at this time. This creates a one-time Recording Event and will take priority over any existing Recording Events for that time. You can also press the RECORD button from within the Guide to set a one-time Recording Event.
I'm sure I'm missing something. I fail to see the difference of these 2. Is the first one not available in the Guide?
2011-09-14, 02:10 PM
The first option would record that program at that time if there are no other scheduling conflicts. If you were to choose two other programs at the same time as the first one (ie a 3 way conflict) and the original program was available at a later time (in the 14 day guide I presume) then the first it would get shifted to a later recording
The second option locks the recording in for the exact time. IT would not get shifted to a later recording.
