You delete shows manually?

I can confirm that there is an auto-tune in this update. The auto-tune lets you select the channel, date, start/stop time and the frequency (once, daily, weekdays, weekly).

You access the auto-tune via the menu-bar->PVR->Manual Timer. You can also set a one time Auto-tune via the Guide, just hit Enter on desired program and select Auto Tune. The auto-tune entries appear in you upcoming list of recorded events, it has a different logo beside to identify as an Auto-tune vs recording.

The auto-tune may be available in the 630 but it is not available to the 605 and probably not in the 600 with 6.22. I now see the update on a 605 and of course the PVR selection is greyed out from the menu on the non 630 receivers. So the 6.22 update is pretty much useless to the non PVR receivers as you can not setup an auto-tune to use with an external recorder. So the only improvements I see in this update is a slightly slower guide. A big thank you to SD programmers for this waste of an update.

Who is in charge of these updates anyways do they not listen to what is needed and broken on their receivers? I really think that Shaw Direct does get it anymore and really doesn't care.

It's early in the school year but I give this update a big F.

Hi All,
SD is saying that this is now installing on the 600 series receivers. I checked and some of my receivers have it and some don't.
Short question; anyone know if this is the release where they address the need for reoccurring auto-tunes?
Anyone know what the differences are between the old s/w level & this new one?

This is the release that addresses the guide being too fast.

From reports the auto-tune is available on the 630 receivers accessible from the PVR menu. I have access to a 605 that now has the update and because it is not a PVR, that menu option is greyed out and so auto-tune is NOT available on the 605 and I would presume the same thing would hold true for the 600 series. I don't think SD thinks these things through nor does it understand how people want to use technology.

Why would Shaw Direct wait more than a week to announce its updating. Seems pretty dumb. They should be telling folks before it happens.

This is all I could pull out of Shaw about 6.22 firmware update.

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Here is a summary of the visible enhancements; note that many of the improvements in 06.22 are “under the hood” and won’t be immediately visible in day-to-day usage.

06.22 contains a myriad of general performance improvements, bug fixes, feature enhancements, and new TSR troubleshooting resources. Many of these enhancements have been suggested by our customers and staff.

What’s New
• Background Recording and Reminder Planning
Scheduling now occurs in the background, allowing you to continue to navigate while your recording/reminder priorities are saved.

• Shortened Guide loading time
In the event of a power loss or reboot, all 14 days of Guide data should reload within 30 minutes.

• Improved Title and Interests Search
We’ve improved the speed and precision of the Search tools, making it easier to find something to watch or record.

• Smart PVR Recording for Movies (Advanced HDPVR only)
Movies can now be recorded just like a series! Just tell the PVR whether you want the title in HD, SD, or from a particular channel and it will automatically be recorded at the first available time.

• Watched Programs in PVR List (Advanced HDPVR only)
Programs that you’ve watched past 80% now appear with a “checkmark” in the PVR List, making it easier to manage your collection of recordings. You can still change the current sort mode in the PVR List by pressing the RIGHT arrow key.

• Smart PVR Technology Enhancements (Advanced HDPVR only)
The Smart PVR Technology powering your Advanced HDPVR has been enhanced for better usability, consistency, and performance.

If you’re looking for more information on these features and how to use them, check out the User Guide online.

Thank you very much for choosing Shaw Direct, and I hope you enjoy the new features!

Yes. I will always delete a show manually after I'm done watching it. Why hang on to it? I like to keep the HDD with as little content as possilbe. I mostly only record new episodes of series anyway, so I wouldn't want any of them deleted automatically due to lack of HDD space.

I was experiencing the slow guide issue after the update (this is how I found out I was hit) I did a soft reboot which didn't do anything so decided to do a factory reset and now it seems as fast as before the update.

I don't know if this has been mentioned. The aspest ratio size shows up on the screen, not just the front of the PVR.

I also delete my shows manually. Like you said, why hang onto shows you've already watched.

Because you can set things to drop off when the hard drive approaches capacity. That way you achieve maximum retention with no adverse effects.

That's debatable. One adverse effect is having unwatched programming automatically deleted when watched programming is kept. Another is reduced disk performance due to fragmentation. That can cause stuttering and other artifacts when watching or recording shows. Full or almost full disks have also been known to trigger bugs in PVRs.

Version 6.22
Recording one program while watching another.
Strong signal on both tuners.
Picture breaks up at least once a minute & at the same time sound cuts out.
I'm not impressed, I can live with all the other bugs but this is the one that must be fixed!!!!!!!!!!!

When I was updated, I was relieved to see that my timers were intact. I'm not sure that previous version data is talking to the current version.

I checked last night...my next scheduled recording of True Blood was the season finale this weekend. That's the last 'new' episode. So last night at 8 pm, the pvr kicks in and starts recording a repeat of True Blood.

I also show Lost Girl... tape new episodes only. So after the True Blood repeat, it flipped over to record a Lost Girl repeat.

Again, there was NO sign of either of these on the upcoming recordings list. They just 'happened'. Is this the new 'smart record' option? It THINKS I want to watch them again, so it just picks a repeat to record?

I guess the next step is to delete all my scheduled recordings and re-enter them.

Very dismayed to hear that the pixilation is still an issue. That was the one thing that we ALL wanted fixed, I believe.

Has anyone re-enabled the aspect ratio override to see if it is working properly?

Another issue I have noticed is the Guide display of NON subscribed channels were being displayed (greyed out) - I selected to NOT DISPLAY them....also changed my screen saver to 1 minute.

The above was set set Wednesday after receiving the new update - Last night I hit the guide button, NON subscribed channels once again were displayed and my screen saver was set back to the default of 30 mins.

So once again I go into the guide options, change it to not display non subscribed and change the screen saver to 1 min.

Since I was also having the slower then normal guide speed, I did a soft reboot (held down the power button for 10 secs) - I'll check again tonight to see if it has defaulted back.....

Cheers

Why buy DVDs?
Exactly. There is no real need to buy dvds. In general, they are a waste of money. The only time it makes sense to buy a dvd is if it is a rare movie or tv program/series that is unavailable on broadcast television or internet streaming.
