Even 4.06 didn't cause this much chaos. I'm gonna check on that eSATA port for buddy up there and report back.

I can't get the eSATA port to do anything.

If there is an auto tune feature like that found on the 5xx series and older then that is the one feature that was keeping me from pulling the trigger on upgrading. The authorization message and pixelation issue would be the other reason I haven't upgraded. Fix those I will probably look at what deals I get to upgrade. Looking forward to the experience of early and early-ish adopters.
I can confirm that there is an auto-tune in this update. The auto-tune lets you select the channel, date, start/stop time and the frequency (once, daily, weekdays, weekly).

You access the auto-tune via the menu-bar->PVR->Manual Timer. You can also set a one time Auto-tune via the Guide, just hit Enter on desired program and select Auto Tune. The auto-tune entries appear in you upcoming list of recorded events, it has a different logo beside to identify as an Auto-tune vs recording.

I have not noticed a slow guide. I did do a soft reset after the update.

I would like anyone with the update and still has pixelation to please let us know. That will be the main thing I will be looking for now. Be aware of the timing of watching recordings that were recorded before the update.

Just curious to know if anyone who has received the new firmwear update have experienced any pixilization/fracturing since the update. I havn't received my update yet but was wondering if it's worth waiting for.

Slow guide and the "smart" recording is anything but. This update is terrible.

Had the update installed night before last. Every once in a while I see a message that says something like "Update in Progress. Please wait.." right in the middle of the screen of the program I'm watching. The message stays there about a minute and then I see the "scheduling" bar at the top right of the screen for a few seconds. I assume something is being updated (probably the guide) but why interrupt what I'm watching to tell me about it. Can this be by design or is it an error?

Ya, this new "smart" recording feature is bunk. After I rec'd the 6.22 update, I created a new series recording - WSOP Main Event, and told it to record new episodes on one specific channel. In the guide information for this show doesn't say "new" so I would have assumed it would just tape all episodes then on that particular channel cause it can't determine what's new (or maybe tape nothing as the other option) But for some reason it randomly selected some episodes to tape, and some to not tape (circle with an x on the bottom right corner)...not sure why it thinks to not record some of the episodes, when the guide info is exactly the same for each episode.

EDIT - Maybe it somehow knows what airings will be "re-run" as opposed to original air date, even though the guide doesn't provide that information. Maybe that's what makes it "smart". I guess we'll see if I end up with all the episodes in the show series, with no duplicates.

I had "Franklin and Bash" set to record all new episodes. The guide had the info of an earlier episode, but it was in fact the new episode. There was even the little NEW icon. It didn't tape. I'm thinking this might be because the original air date was June something, which is when it aired on USA network in the states.

Also getting that message and scheduling that others above are.

Wow, you guys were not kidding, the guide is brutal to move around in now with this new firmware. :(

Really, can they not test this stuff before being released???

The 630 is woefully lacking in CPU and RAM. That is what you are seeing.

They can't fix it and that is why the SD rep has not posted recently.

I still haven't been targeted, but I'm away until the weekend. Really hoping not to revist the 00.13 guide slowness, but apparently it's inevitable, just when I thought that 4.06 was a step in the right direction.

Let’s hope the 705/730’s are better:(

As long as Motorola is involved don't count on exciting things.

Have you guys with the slow guide tried doing a soft reboot (holding front power button for 10 seconds) to see if that fixes the slow guide. Someone earlier had mentioned the reboot. Mine was downloading before I went to work this afternoon so it should be ready when I get home in a couple of hours. Will check out this guide issue then.

UPDATE: Just got home and did a soft reboot as soon as I walked in the door. The guide seems to load normally and going through the guide seems fine but the yellow hightlight thingy does take a 1/2 second or so to show up which may seem like the guide is slow.

got the new update and for now, it seem's ok.

It's a shame that we went from a version 4.xx to 6.xx without any major improvement.

Usually, bug are corrected on minor release and new feature on major release...

I'm really tired of this. I see all the other competitor's recorder with neat features and Shaw after almost 3 years and 2 diffetent hardware, still trying to figure out how to make the MOST BASIC FEATURE WORKING CORRECTLY.

How about a law suit?

While speaking to a colleague I was informed the new 6.22 update also gives technicians the ability to specify Vcodes and check status of channel maps during install and diagnosis on site using a USB key instead of calling into field support. I have yet to get my memo from head office to verify this though.

I am now targeted. i'm hoping it can wait until after Sunday.

EDIT:

As one of the subsequent posters predicted, I did get the update last night. Here is what I have noticed so far

Guide IS a little slower to respond, by about 1/2 a second. will take some getting used to
Closed captions puts text as people are saying the words (as opposed to entire sentence at once)
When scheduling to record a series, a status bar appears in the upper right hand corner, but the process seems to be slower
