The online manual has a note about that...
"***Placeholder for information on “watched” recordings feature ***"

Sounds like a new feature they are working on but it's ready for primetime yet.

Good
Now tags shows you have seen. Now I don’t need to us the lock flag to keep track of this.

Search seems faster (Probably because of the following)

All the "No Information Available" shows don’t appear in the search list any more. (I would still like to see the "Not Available" shows filtered out but one improvement at a time is good.)

Better
If you try to record a 'Not Available" channel it stills shows up on the recording list but it is now flagged as a recording error.

Bad
Smart program does not let me record a manual backup of my favorite show episode. (I do this in case of an error in the program listing). If you select a second episode with the same name to record it removes the recording for the first copy.
(It also seems to create another recording event for the series which confuses the whole issue. Maybe it is working but I can't tell yet)

No details of the new features have been published for us

Be nice if they turned on the outboard hard-drive support ;)

It seems to take longer now to scroll through the guide with this update.

how widespread is the update thus far? i still wasn't targeted as of last night, i think the last update i had it by the 3rd day. i don't want it to be messing with my college football viewing tomorrow and if there is better video quality (less pixelation), i'd welcome the upgrade prior to tomorrow.

One of the positive changes I have noticed is that my HDMI audio stream continues to work after FF or RW video playback. Before the update, the analog outputs would have audio after doing this, but I sometimes had to switch my AVR on and off to get the HDMI audio going again (sounds like an HDCP issue of some sort, but I'm not sure).

There is also a new on-screen overlay indicating aspect ratio.

Guide performance is definitely worse than it was before.

Not exactly clear on what "Smart Record" is. It doesn't seem very smart at all. There were numerous recording conflicts that I had to resolve manually after choosing "Smart Record New Episodes".

You would think that, if it was a smart thing, it would see a conflict and resolve it and be able to tell that the show 3 hours later is the same darn show.

I have no idea if HDD support is on this one, as only my 630 got the update.

On my 605- (630 not targeted yet) I did notice that on the system settings page, where the target version is located there is a 'download' button- presumably to force the download of new versions of firmware.

Saves going into the hidden menus... maybe to enable the formatting of an external drive for the 605.? One can dream. :)

It may have always done this, I have only had the 630 for about a month now, but after the update, I see a scheduling "bar" on the screen now when I schedule something to happen, and the bar has a status type timer event attached to it. In other words, you can see the progrss of the scheduling by watching a bar go from min to max length.

Oh, BTW, I am new, hi.

I have several cartoons setup in the PVR for the kids. I have always set them up as "Record All Episodes" and "Keep 3 episodes". It would appear that the "Keep 3 Episodes" no longer works. I am now up to 8 episodes on one cartoon and 7 episodes on the other.

Has anybody else noticed this? It has always worked fine up until the recent update.

I have deleted and setup the recordings again but still the same issue.

I did the upgrade, and I got a message after reboot, "PVR error: Reminders and upcoming recording events have been lost! Existing recordings have been recovered. Please re-set your Recording Events"

Unbelieveable.

Sunday night had a spontaneous reset while watching a recording and a program was recording at the same time. I had forced the download the day before but I forgot to do a reboot afterward. So that's probably why it happened.

Today while watching the football game, I was recording it and watching the recording, I decided with 2 minutes left in the game to stop the recording and delete it. I selected stop the recording and the screen went blank and I had nothing. I changed the channel to TSN and still nothing. I changed to another channel and I got picture and sound. Tried to change back to TSN and nothing after that. Did a front panel reset and got a picture and sound and I could change channels with no difficulty. However no guide. Not surprising after a reset but after 15 minutes still no guide. No guide no scheduled recordings would take place.

Did a second reset still no guide. Wouldn't let me manually record either. Watched the show that we were going to record. Two hours since the reset and still no guide. Tried to call Shaw Direct but long wait times. So went to the web site and did the receiver refresh. With in 5 minutes had the guide and all was well.

This shouldn't have happened.

Noticed some of the changes that have occurred with the update. I no longer have the skip back when I skip forward on a recording. Has not happened once since the update. Good Thing!

When scheduling recordings the receiver puts you back to the program you are watching full screen and then shows the progress in the upper right had corner. Good Thing.

When setting the aspect the different setting are labelled at the top of the screen as NORMAL, ZOOM & STRETCH. Convenient not mission critical

Lost a little confidence in Shaw Directs ability to get this right.

In addition this is the first summer where we have missed programs that were important to us because of bad weather. This has probably happened on 6 occasions this summer. Only happened a couple of time since we've been with Star Choice / Shaw Direct which has been many many years. I think that all considered I will have to look at Telus.

Went through the SD home page where they PROMISED to keep us informed of the latest updates... and of course there is nothing, other than a never-ending click link....click here for receiver updates...click here because the latest info is always in our tech support area.... check here for receiver updates.... and so on.

No sign of SD Support... I assume they have either been censored by Shaw or moved on to another area or company. Or they are enjoying a lengthy vacation!

I haven't been targeted yet....there should be SOMETHING SOMEWHERE that tells us what we can expect or hope for!

I decided with 2 minutes left in the game to stop the recording and delete it.

This has happened to me with Nascar races. I've learned to leave the recording in progress and delete later. Also all reboots are NOT the same. Some do take longer to repopulate guide and recordings. Best to not change channel while it is doing so. Sounds like you really stress tested the machine.

Just noticed that I have the 06.22 update under my target version. I'm going to force it in a couple of minutes. It's funny, ever since those locals channels came in a week or so ago, my 630 has been more unstable than usual -- a spontaneous reboot here, the black screen of death there -- I'm crossing my fingers that this update might stabilise that a bit so that I can watch the Kelowna news without wondering if the 630 will act up...

I hope this isn't true. We use the "Keep 3" feature for a number of kids shows which its nice to always have something fresh with out filling up the HHD.

Not targeted yet. So far the I'd rather stay with 4.22 as it hasn't been too problematic for me and it doesn't sound like there are any must have feature 06.22 has that I can't live with out.

I will you know if I have the same problem once upgraded.

So I did the update and I already have a problem -- it randomly chose a number of shows I had scheduled. In this case, it was primarily my U.S. Open coverage, but also a few other shows. Instead of having the normal little white circle recording icon, it now has the icon with the X through it, as if there's a recording conflict, but there isn't. If I try and delete the program, I can't because it only gives me the option to record it, not to cancel the recording. None of these "unrecording" recordings are anywhere else, so I can't delete them elsewhere. I tried a front button reset in the hope that the problem would be resolved, but it didn't help. I'm now doing the unplugging thing, hoping that will fix the issue. If not, I'll have to phone...bummer!
