: Slow monitor start up

I have an LG Flatron monitor that can take up to an hour to start up. This only happens when it has been turned off overnight, not when it is warmed up. Took it in to get looked at and it worked fine. Took it home and it worked fine. Turned off the PC overnight and same old problem in the morning. 45 minutes for it to start up. Any ideas? Thanks

Likely a failing capacitor in the power supply. You have two alternatives
- take it back to the shop if it is still under warranty (original or extension if purchased with a credit card)
- buy a new monitor as the cost of repairs could be about the price of a new one.

Unfortunately, I agree with just replacing an out of warranty monitor. If you can find a matching board and power supply (maybe in another monitor with a bad panel) and perform a DIY repair, it could be worthwhile. Due to improvements in panels, a new monitor will likely look and work better than one that is several years old. I regularly see name brand monitors selling for $100-$200 these days so repairs are definitely not worthwhile.
