Still no joy, alas...
Same error on No TV Signal, but strength-scan gives 100%.

So is the program information for the guide being sent out? I'm not getting anything for program listing etc, so I'm wondering is it my converter box has the problem, or is there no data being sent.

@frontpl8: I get my guide info as expected, no problem there. Current to 8/8

@netwerk: Yes, bit of an issue, but I do not seem to get Global Digital at all via Vista MC, analog is OK, Guide is ok, but viewing and/or recording the DT is out... As they say in the old country: Helaas Pindakaas. ;)

I think the problem people have been having lately with MC is its inability to deal with change. Microsoft tells us what channels are what and if it doesn't jive with their XML channels list we will run into grief. I think the whole roll over we are going to go through here in the near future is going to be very painful for MC users.

I wish microsoft would open up media center a bit and let us have the ability to change stuff.

Right now MC thinks Global is 22.1 -> 8.1. After do some re-scans I can now watch the channel but if I try to do something like set up a show to record in the future it can not find the signal. Its very frustrating to say the least.

I think if global was actually on 22.1 -> 8.1 MC users would not have any issues.

Netwerk, scheduled recordings on Global CHANDT 8.1 failed for me too, until I changed the workaround I posted earlier.
* Run TV Setup
* Delete Global from the lineup.
* Then run Scan for More Channels.

I agree that 7MC continues to use it's own tuninginfo from a few weeks ago which no longer matches Global's current operating parameters.

I never thought I'd have to open the MXF files (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=105592) again.

The recent Global Vancouver OTA change has been transparent to my TV (Samsung) and PC (Beyond TV). However, I notice (kind of off-topic) that Global is now running a lower bitrate than before. It used to run the highest among local stations in Vancouver but it's now running lower bitrate (6.9GB/hr) than CTV (7.6GB/hr) and even CBC (7.4GB/hr). Is that change intentional to accomodate future subchannel, perhaps in-line with the up-coming analog shutdown?

How are you getting these rates?, are they actual recordings.

I was hoping for a fix on CHAN 22. It remaps to 22.1 these days instead of 8.1 like it used to. From the discussions it looks like some people get the remap, but I'm don't. I get the conflict with JoeTV and the subsequent deletions of all the 22's if I tune to CHAN (22.1) while the antenna is facing south. I then re-establish the Seattle channels by going to channel 25.

Any new thoughts about what's going on?

Mackeral: what exactly are you getting the guide on, because i don't get it for any channels. It does not display the name of the current show, or any up coming show,or any description of the show. It just shows the station name, signal strength etc.program informtion unavailable. This is also the same on my sons new LCD with built in tuner, so i don't think its the converter boxes.

Some further notes:

I wish I could understand why some of these devices are having trouble mapping.

The physical transmitter is channel 22, program stream 1, so it is logical the device finds 22.1, however it should then read the TVCT table which remaps it to 8.1.

The info in Michael DeAbreu post is correct:
logicalNumber="8" subNumber="1" physicalNumber="22" frequency="0"

.....well, OK, I'm not sure what frequency="0" means, but physical 22, logical 8 seems normal.

I'm also curious what some of you are seeing with the Seattle channels. KZJO is mapping to 22.X from physical 25, but that should actually be OK. Are some of you finding a physical channel 22 from Seattle?, because I don't see one in the maps.

HWP:
Don't hold me to this, but we're trying to get Ottawa up for August 15th. We're fibering the signal to the TX, so we're just finishing that up.

We currently have the SD inside there to help with the transition. I'll likely remove it later. In tests, the new decoders looked better at 12Mbps than the old ones did at 18Mbps. (Actually, the new encoders are pretty amazing really). It's a stat mux, so the actual bit rate may vary, but it's at 14-ish for now, but can ramp up to 17-ish.

I'm especially interested in laurienicol comment. The fact you get different results depending where you point your antenna indicates some sort of conflict with another broadcaster, but looking at the Industry Canada and FCC charts I don't see what it is.

Cheers!

Dan

I've read the header info as well. They aren't necessarily accurate either. That's why I compared different programs on each station (which are surprisingly consistent), before and after the recent Global change (consistently lower after). and if you compare TS stream info before the change you'll notice the bitrate number differences.

laurienicol was reporting that the PSIP mapping problem with CHAN had returned and I can confirm that I am having that problem too. The PSIP mapping for CHAN stopped working within the past few days. My Samsung TV, for about a week period or so, was displaying CHAN as 8.1 and provided the station's call sign under channel information. Now it's back to how it has been for the past severals years: 22.1 and no call sign.

.....well, OK, I'm not sure what frequency="0" means,

I suspect it refers to an "offset". Our Toshiba 19" panel refers to this when displaying the signal meter info.

In the very begining of BCTV DTV OTA transmission there was an issue that some could get the station and some could not, at the time I was using a program call watchhdtv and it had the ability to change the frequency from 0 to 1 and in doing that I was able to get a lock and see the program.

The real channel 25 from Seattle remaps to 22.1, 22.2 and 22.3. When the CHAN 22 (22.1) signal is not strong enough (ie when pointing the antenna down the gulf to catch KOMO) and I tune to the 22.1 channel, the TV first looks for CHAN, decides it's not there, and then deletes the Seattle set as well. Curiously, if I channel down backward to 22.3 first, it is okay. Just an nuisance to have to force the 22 set from channel 25, but not a crippling problem. If I point the antenna a little more to the east, I can capture both 22.1's at the same time but I lose KOMO down the Gulf.
Channel 22 (CHAN), until a couple of weeks ago, went to channel 8.1, just fine.

navwizard,

Don't know if this is of any value to you, you guys in Canada may do it differently then we do in here in the US, but I will throw it out as a life preserver. Use it if you see any value in it. By FCC mandate we have to start our first video program streams at Program 3. All made for US market converter boxes and receivers look for first video stream at Program 3. Programs 0-2 are reserved and no video data is presented there and that could be part of your issue.

With respect to Windows MC. Good luck. The folks from Redmond march to a completely different drummer. Been trying to get them to change my digital channel since we made the transition in 2009 and they are STILL pointing to the wrong RF channel. HUGE pain in the butt with viewers.

Good luck in your transition.
