Installed 2nd new 6100 and SD/S-video dark picture is still present. This is so frustrating since the 6000 SD quality was acceptable. You would think the newer 6100 to have a picture improvement.

CSR help I have been given over numerous calls.
- no one else has this SD dark issue problem (ya right)
- poor s-video cable (new THX monster)
- faulty power bar (new)
- tv is getting old (2 yrs HDTV)
- your eyes have adjusted to HD picture quality thats all (LOL)

Thanks for the support guys. Hope new upgrade comes down the wire soon but at the moment it does not look too bright.

Has anyone installed a 2nd larger dish to increase Sat 82 signal strength ? My average is 65% on Alberta clear day. Would a 24" or 30" be better to use ? What level to expect ?
Thanks HG

I've been reading this thread and have some concerns. Hopefully, someone can assist me. I am a StarChoice customer. I have been thinking about going HD as I have a Hitachi 51S500. I decided to go with Bell, rather than upgrade my SC 405 to their HD unit. I picked up the 6120 yesterday, and it will be installed on Monday by Bell. I've read that Bell has the better HD unit these days (for now). Is it worth changing over to ExpressVu from SC? It sounds like there are many problems with the 6120 -- freezing, sound sync, and others. Has someone switched over from SC and regretted the move, or are you glad you switched to the 6120 rather than SC's?

Dish sent new firmware for the 811 in August that brightened up the S-video. So BEV can fix it if they want to.

I mentioned this to Bell and they said their software is different
and won't work on the 6100. Around and around we go.
I am glad to hear the 811 was corrected and will go down this
path with CSR's. I am sure its only a matter of time, gulp

Does anyone know how to do a soft and/or hard reset of the 6100? I can't get mine to seem my programming three days after adding it to my subscription.

What's the current software version? Mine says E472 currently.

Thanks!

Just got mine put in yesterday:

I checked all outputs
DVI - excellent HD pic and very good SD pic (not dark at all)
Component - same as above
Svid - crappy pic

Important to note Panny 47wx53 prior to getting the HD satelite I had an ISF calibration done for grayscale/focus/geometry etc (480I/P) which also from what I understand includes 1080I. The ISF tech said if I get a HD signal I may find it too bright, now this may account for why I do not find it dark?

As for 82 strength - today in Calgary is overcast and I am getting about 78-80%. dish is just below the roof line - yesterday cloudy and rain the same.

Hi all,

I'm a current 6000 owner considering getting a 6100. Maybe some of you who already own a 6100 can help me out??

First off, I find the quality of the non-HD broadcasts to be pretty bad, even over component video cables. Pretty sure it's not my tv -- it's a Toshiba Cinema Series 51HX84. One of the things that is attractive to me about the 6100 is the DVI output. For those of you now using DVI who were previously using component, did you find any remarkable improvement when you switched? Particularly on the non-HD channels (200's)?

Second, any of you from the Ottawa area using a 6100? I believe it now has an integrated OTA tuner... Is it possible to pick up any over-the-air hd channels in the Ottawa area? If so, how many, and where are they from? Is there an antenna required? If so, where can I get more info on purchasing one?

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Teddo

Hi Guys,

Well at last I have sat82, if you saw my last few posts you will know that I have many problems with BEV has a tech myself I install and maintain my gear, speaking with a level 2 tech at Bev I had done more fault finding than he new so they sent a contractor round 8 days later which was yesterday, Well you've heard this before contractor should have been at my house between 8-12am no show until 4pm it took him and a trainee who stayed for a short time 1 1/2 hours to find sat82 which was a very weak signal after another hour gone by trying to get a stronger signal he said we should move the dish now bare in mind the dish has been in it's current location 6 years sat 91 most trans are peeking at 100%.

So we move the dish ( I did not tell you I'm helping this guy the hole time and providing a night light to work on garage roof they don't carry lights! also I had a 4700 and tv setup in the garage just has well his sat find on the blink!)

Anyway after some time hold the dish in is hand he finds sat82 and gets a signal of 82, sounds great now I'm helping this guy but I'm not going to tell him how to do his job. So he starts drilling in the new location dish is up and starts looking for sat91 well he finds it after a little bit and is only getting 45-50% signal after trying and trying to get a greater signal he then says I don't understand and I made a mistake I should have checked for sat91 first before drilling anyway it's pitch black and frezzing he is now in his truck and says I have to think it 's to cold I can't think straight so he goes to warm up four hours have gone by now and he now tells me he dose not know what to do now 91 and 82 are stronge but 10-12ft apart, so I said you need me to tell you how to get around this he said if you know tell me because I don't know, So I told him, here's my old 24" dish put that back in the old location not that I wanted another dish on the roof and set the new dish to 82 a big smile comes across his face and says that great idea why didn't I think of that.
So now all my boxes see 82 and the sw44

Total service time 5 hours.

Now I have to call Bev and speak with the Tech and manager that set this up they wanted hear from me what the problem was also give me some credits.

Hi guys,

I have a FTA receiver and I can tune in both Nimiq1 & 2 with my current dish positioner.

If I purchase a BEV 6120 receiver, will the software setup allow me to tune in 1 satellite at a time so that I can use my current positioner? I do not want to use the dual LNB and dish that they provide, I believe they call this the "Upgrade Kit".

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

hey all...I m a new guy to Expressvu after being with SC for 5 years. I didn t like the idea of SC picking and choosing my HD content. So I thought i d give EV a try. One question I have is the SD/HD button on my remote.... what does it do cause mine doesn t do anything. I have a 6120 receiver, a Panasonic 47" HDTV (480p and 1080i) and for the life of me can t get anything to happen when i push that button. Any help would be great.

Also, any other SC guys gone to EV and if so are you happy of not that you did so??

I am a legit subscriber to Bell ExpressVu and have no intention of hacking the signal. All want to know is how I can watch TV on my computer without purchasing a second receiver? Does anyone know how to do this?

I am told that the popular ATI All in Wonder cards will not work with digital satellite. I've seen various posts about DVB cards but these either seemed designed to hack the signal or work with a CAM card. My 6120 does not use a smart card.

Anyone who knows what type of video card I need for my PC to watch BEV without another receiver, please let me know.
