I just had the installer put up the new 20" dish yesterday and I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer.

The installer just used the old mounting foot and mast in place and installed the new dish on it. The thing is that I gave him all the hardware and now there is none left over. Doesn't the 6120 package come with screws or bolts
to fasten the mounting foot down? Can someone give me a definitive answer as I will be pissed off with the installer if he took them.

Also, the installer set the new dish face down on a concrete block while assembling it and scratched the face of the dish up quite badly......he did
this and thought nothing of it......disrespectfull and unecessary. Is it possible that the dish will rust in a year or two.....it is thin and I don't think they are powder coating them for nothing.

Thanks for any answers.

The 6120 comes with the foot, the mast and all the bolts. I would call Bell and tell them you want a new dish since he scratched yours up.

Any word recently on (hopefully) upcoming software upgrades for the 6100? i.e. to add:

- new guide
- search guide
- iTV

Just curious, I haven't heard anything at all.

Telusmobilityguy,

New guide ????? There isn't a new guide for the 6100. If you are referring to the new guides depicted on the ExpressVu website those are of the dishLINUX driven 5200 and 3200 receivers.

The 6120 system does come with a foot and post but does not come with screws or bolts to fasten it down.

The upgrade kits don't come with a foot or post...

The painted surface of the dish is not very strong, it does scratch quite easily...This will not effect your long term performence...

I think I'm having the same problem as Gerry301 reguarding setting event timers to record with the VCR.
If I set an event timer and turn the 6100 "OFF", the reciever turns on ok, but all that is outputted (recorded) is the station info banner across the top (for a few seconds when timer starts) and nothing but a black screen (no audio either), this is true for both sd output and dvi output.
If I change the channel up or down the station will come in fine.
If I set a timer and leave the 6100 "ON" the reciever changes channels (if nessesary) and outputs picture and sound as it should, which of course records fine.

Tell me about it! I've been waiting for this upgrade for almost 2 months. Is it possible for them to force it onto the receiver? I've tried leaving my 6100 plugged in and ON for days, turned off for hours, unplugged for hours... nuttin' honey.

There is no "new guide" - where did you get that impresssion? The other two will hopefully come one day. I don't know when, I just know there is no new guide coming.

According to the Bell website, there is:

http://www.bell.ca/shop/application/commercewf?origin=noorigin.jsp&event=link(goto)&content=/jsp/content/personal/catalog/satellites/whats_new/index.jsp&REF=L_SATTV_WHATSNEW

Certainly looks different and has more features than the guide I have!

Seems to be a common mis-understanding on this and other forums.

The pictures on the Bell site is of the new receivers (5200 & 3200). Take a look at this thread where it is discussed:

http://digitalhomecanada.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16019

If you remember when the 3100 first came out it had the new blue guide compared to the green guide the 2700s and 6000s had. The bell.ca site had a whole page with tonnes of screen shots at the time. But that was only for the new receivers at the time, the 2700 and 6000 models did not get their guides updated. Same goes for right now: the pics are from their latest receivers.

That section is rather mis-leading. It describes functionality that was added months ago, not on Sep 30th. And there is no new guide for the 3100, 5X00, or 6100. I wish there was.

Anyone got some screenshots of the new guide from a 5200 to make us envious?

Hi , Anyone know how many updates the 6100 has had? New owner of a 6100 here and running dvi/hdmi to my d-ila , and ive noticed a much darker picture, It's hard to adjust out . Also sd pq is worse than the old 3100 via s vid. I know , from reading dbs forums, that there is fixes for the darkness, etc. I think they got the first dark fix upgrade in july or so , wonder how long we are behind them?

I received one update for my 6100 about 6-7 weeks ago but have no idea what it fixed. I didn't see a difference. It seems the fixes that were sent to DishNetwork 811 owners were not sent to us. It also seems BEV doesn't believe there is a "dark" issue as the CSR I talked to this past weekend said it was a TV issue and not the reciever. We all know this is crap but try arguing with a CSR!!

Still dark (and shiny black helmet heads) on my Toshiba 65HX81 thru component and s-vid AS WELL as on my BenQ 8700+ pj thru DVI, Comp, and s-vid.

Then yours is the only one that works right or you haven't been watching a lot of tv with your 6100. :D The dark issue isn't about overall brightness although the 6100 is a little darker through DVI compared to C band, cable, DVD and Star Choice. I have them all on the same tv. It's about how blacks are shown on tv. There is little to no distinction between various shades of black. You will notice this on darker scenes or people wearing black clothes. The effect is known as black crush. I have a Sony KP57WV700 with a Belkin high bandwidth DVI cable hooked up to my 6100.

I don't dispute your observations, because I haven't used or seen 6100 being used through DVI. I just wanted to clarify to others that regardless of whether you are using an expensive Belkin high bandwidth DVI cable or the cheapest possible NoName crappy DVI cable (as long as you have picture without breaking with the latter) will not change how blacks are delivered in any way with this setup. High bandwidth DVI is applicable only to computers.

Sad thing is the black problem also happens with component, S Video and composite. So DVI isn't the problem here. It's the crappy way this POS receiver processes the signal.

Also having SD dark picture issues through s-video on 6100.
Hard boot and memory dump makes no change.
HD via component is excellent. Can the Toshiba 57hdx82 adjust for blackness on s-video input to correct this problem ?
Perhaps that would fix these new shadow display channels.
I dont have alot of confidence in updated software anytime soon.

:D Hi all;
I had my 6120 system installed a couple weeks ago and was wondering if I should be concerned about image retention caused by the silver bars on top and bottom of the screen.I have a square...4:3 ratio screen.Plus what is channel 000 used for?

Thanks

I'll second that. I have the crushed blacks problem on component and DVI connections. If Expressvu does not admit that there is a problem and release a software update to fix it, I have the number of someone that can set me up with a "gray" DTV system. HELLO BELL! ARE YOU LISTENING??
